Maybe you all do this already..but I was so excited to discover that I can get the meat out of the young coconuts in one piece and with virtually no brown stuff on the outside.

After taking the top off I inserted my fingers between the coco meat and shell and just kept pressing down all around until I had it all detached from the shell. Then it comes out like a little coco meat sack..LOL..

You could make long strips or whatever..but I just felt it was so much easier and faster than scraping it with a sppon, and you also do not have to deal with the brown coming off with it...

I made a yummy coconut water/meat, strawberry, banana, orange, agave smoothie!!! YUMM!!!!:D

Also, I've found that the smaller ones have the more "puddingy" consistency. So you can just spoon it out. YUM.

Those thicker meated ones are great for making noodles. Like for a mango/coconut/chili/bean sprout salad.

I have read about the puddingy ones..but have never had one like that yet. My dad read about them too..and said they called it "spoon-meat."

I have always had the ones where the meat is more rubbery or al dente..lol..

I will have to keep an eye out for the smaller ones..:D

Elizabeth, I do the same thing but with a soft flexible spatula. The spatula hugs the coconut (between the meat and the nut) so it pretty much comes out in one large piece.

Thanks, Ama! :-) I tend to use my hands a lot..LOL..

I just opened another one and the meat was softer, and easy to get out with a spoon. It was also thinner, not as much in it, but lots of water. Yummmyyy....

I am on a coconut bender this morning!!

I've noticed that even if mine comes out in one piece, it's fleeting, since I take a bite out of it so quickly. lol!

Hi!
I buy my Organic Young Coconuts at Wholefoods (supermarket). Joe Traders, Wegemans or any gourmet supermaket will carry them also! See if you have any of these specialty stores near you.;)

I eat so much coconut and I can't believe that I didn't know this and always have to deal with the brown stuff. Thanks so much! I'm going to try this next time.

I always spoon mine out and get the extra brown stuff on it. Next time I am trying my fingers or a rubber spatula! There is nothing worse then getting that hard brown shell in your smoothies! I just bought 2 yesterday so I can't wait to try it!
