Hi Everyone,
Still being fairly new to raw foods.........I just recently switched over to a natural Celtic Sea Salt w/out the caking agent chemicals.
As i cleaned out my cupboards, I read labels before they hit the trash.
Campbell's soup has Mono-sodium glutamate (MSG) ICKY POO!!
Since I recently quit smoking as well, I innocently purchased a pack of gum. Until I read the label, it had aspartame and i think also phenylethylamine ??
I just discovered Xylitol gum as an alternative w/out aspartame
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phenylethylamine
My old salt had "anti-caking agent" in the label... So out of curiosity I searched up these chemicals and here is what I found:
Anti-Caking Agent
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-caking_agent
"As a salt of aluminium, the potential for this compound to cause health problems should be noted[citation needed]. Aluminium is known to cause placental problems in pregnancy and has been linked to Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and bone loss."
MSG
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monosodium_glutamate
Because MSG is absorbed very quickly in the gastrointestinal tract (unlike glutamic acid-containing proteins in foods), MSG could spike blood plasma levels of glutamate.[6][7][8] Glutamic acid is in a class of chemicals known as excitotoxins, high levels of which have been shown in animal studies to cause damage to areas of the brain unprotected by the blood-brain barrier and that a variety of chronic diseases can arise out of this neurotoxicity.[
Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) has been shown to cause obesity in lab rats
Aspartame
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspartame
Some studies have also recommended further investigation into connections between aspartame and negative effects such as headaches, brain tumors, brain lesions, and lymphoma
Food Labels
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E_number
Can anyone list other conventional foods/spices/condiments we take for granted or what raw fooders may be unaware of to avoid that may contain these hidden chemicals that harm us?
Ive come a long way... but there is always something new.
Perhaps this thread may also help others that are new to raw foods in their transition as welll... plus it is just expensive during the transition... you know buying new foods and throwing out the old stuff.... it costs money!!!
Thanks!
