I use Spirulina from www.naturalzing.com and also Alissa's Green Food Powder - http://www.alissacohen.com/shop/product.php?productid=20&cat=4&page=1

Why? Because I feel I am getting all the nutrients and minerals that way.

I add these both to my fruit smoothies and green smoothies.

No, I’m not taking vitamins or supplements right now and I’m also avoiding most superfoods like powdered greens & algae. I’m trying to meet my needs with fresh, whole foods that can be commonly found in supermarkets or farmer’s markets. The exception would be whole flax seeds which I buy on the internet. At some future date I might consider taking an ultra-low dose Vitamin B-12.

I take a multivitamin, B complex, cal/mag, vitamin E, and tons of extra C. I also have been taking two grams of glutamine before bed, plus a probiotic.

Why do I take all these? Well, I have alot of health issues I am trying to reverse, and the supplements, as well as alot of raw food, are making a huge difference. I feel better than I have in, well, forever!

No. I stopped taking them many many years ago (after my transition) because they made me ill. Just my experiences.

Not as much as I use to, but still need them for health even with being 100% raw for so long.

Green powder-Pure Synergy or Vitamineral Green
PMS formula-usually only need a small dose once a mo.

Occasionally something else.

I take 2 capsules of glucosamine & MSM daily - supposed to help arthritis - maybe a little but not a lot. I have B complex drops I take sublingual every once in a while or when I think of it, and the same with a multivitamin, when I think of it.

Greens+/thyrosense/kelp/b12+combo B /oils. I will be trying Maca and MSM tooo. I always recommend supplements because you are not getting everything you need even from organic but I do 2 days on/taking supplements & 1-2 days off everything but my thyrosense.:)

Well, I am planning to write to newstarget about this.
Because, they have a list of preferred products, also supplements.
But none of these products is superior, there is always someting right and something not (wrong).

( example: a products has the best form of B12, not the cheap cyanocobalamin, but the better hydroxycobalamin) but than the Vitamin
C seems not to be natural (rosehips or amla berry) but just ascorbinacid.
how difficult is it to develop a real good product, and why is it not there?
So, I am gonna ask newstarget, with all there truthseeking and knowledge
and unbiased companycontacts, to stimulate the development of
a REALLY comlete, good supplement. Are you gonna wish me luck..? :D :p

I agree that the selection of vitamins leaves a lot to be desired. That's why I just spend my money on one multi-vitamin and play dumb about what's in it. At least I am getting them, that's my stance. I could buy lots of vitamins, but the food bill is already high...

I add a few drops of BioSil to my morning smoothie. I have some camu camu powder in case I need vitamin C, but don't take it often. I also have some MSM which I take occasionally.

Hi, I take probiotics and enzymes simply because digesting some raw foods is difficult for me. I believe high fat foods and oils are the culprit, but I am not giving up avocados or dressings. I also add trace mineral drops to my water and take one capsule of Boswellia to combat inflammation I am experiencing in my joints. This was after cutting out all raw foods that trigger inflammation (runs in the family). I love taking vitaminc C powder before having a work out to get an extra jolt of energy! I will probably add a B12 supplement at some point. I am not keen on taking supplements but it is necessary when I am bombarded by endogenous and exogenous toxins on a daily basis.

I don't believe in supplement usage unless the formula contains exclusively & only whole foods. I do not believe in the concept of extractions having true biological power. I really and truly believe in the power of nature and simplicity.

That said, green supplements are excellent nutrient boosters in addition to a raw & whole foods diet, IMO.

Hi all,

I don't take any supplements. I think that when we are eating raw food we are getting all the nutrition we need. I trust nature. :-)

purelyorganicproducts,

What does that product do for you, if I may ask. What type of issues does it address?
Going now to check out your site; it looks interesting.

pierre,

Why do you take Biosil? I believe it's a beauty aid :). From what I know of it, it is great for joints too.

Best,

absolutely i take supplements. if i were living in a pristine forest eating off the land, i wouldn't see any need. but personally, whole foods organic just doesn't cut it. i take:

spirulina
sublingual b-12
angstrom zinc
l-lysine
Digestive enzymes
HCl

occasionally i use grapefruit seed extract, pure synergy vitamin C, MSM...

it's working for me :)

To strengthen my hair, nails, and joints, I think. I forget what my reasoning was when I started it. Although I have several swollen joints right now and have to use crutches to get around, I was told "You look FANTASTIC!!!" by one of the bus drivers.:D

I take:

MSM (Started 2 days ago)
Multi-vitamin
Spirulina
Flax-seed oil occasionally
Iron maybe once or twice a month when I feel I need it, but that's rare. But it helps TONS when I do need it, and take it.
Calcium sometimes too :)

I take MSM, spirulina 2 x daily, digestive enzymes (just to speed up detox), chlorella, complex B vitamins and starting to drink diluted ACV ( apple cider vinegar) for acne, and 1 tbsp of cold pressed coconut oil for healthy fats. its alot of stuff to remember to take everyday! but its well worth it bc my hair is getting thicker and my skin is slowly getting better!

I use spirulina and hemp/maca/flax powder in smoothies almost every day.

I also supplement with evening primrose oil for psoriasis (which has disappeared) and for the old nerves and skin (inseparable, those two!)

I occasionally use a magnesium supplement (Ionic Fizz) for muscle tension (I take some hardcore bodywork appts that shred my arthritic hands and make my arm and shoulder WORK, lol). Also, If I enjoy bananas, or dense foods too much at certain times of the month, it helps to draw water into the digestive tract and move things along.

I have used ginger for bad lady times...but no need to do that the last few months on raw... ;)

I suppose Kombucha is kinda like supplementing your probiotics. I drink 1 a day

B12 dots

I used to use Hawthorne, garlic, olive leaf, tocotrienols, and CoQ10 for blood pressure, but mine has dropped well within healthy levels since going raw, so now I use the $$ I save to buy nutmilk shakes and stilettos.

Vitamin C..to help my body keep estrogen levels from the pill UP (no breakthru bleeding with a low dose pill when I do this) and b/c it is darn good for the complexion and joints.

I take B-complex and biotin.

vitamin b complex keeps me calm, (seems to curb my feelings of irritability) and biotin works with b complex also - and is very good for hair and nails.

biotin - my nails and hair have grown tremendously, MSM (just started), Maca, gingko. B-12 a few times a week. And Seabuckthorn oil when I can afford it... that stuff is awesome for skin problems.

I used to work at a health food store and spent a lot of money on the best of the best supplements. I never felt anything. Now I eat raw. I feel something! So, I'm saving money not buying pills.

Nope - no supplements here. After tracking my eating for a couple of weeks on Nutridiary, I realized I was getting insane amounts of nutrients just from regular old raw food.

I would consider a B12 supplement if my levels tested low, but I haven't been eating vegan long enough for that to be an issue at this point.

I use green food in my smoothies and CLA for insulin resistance. I also take Liv 52 liver support because I have a lot of iron stored in my liver.

I probably always will take supplements because my immune system is much stronger with them, even raw. Probiotics are the most important. Digestive enzymes are sometimes necessary. It's good to have an immune formula on hand that contains echinacea, vitamin c, etc. for those times when either you feel you're about to get sick or your immune sytem is compromised. I tried going without supplements on raw without success & will possibly try in the future. Though I'd rather take the precautionary methods, than deal with the symptoms.

Ideally just using a green powder such as Vitamineral Green or Pure Synergy should work, but this is not always the case.

I don't supplement, but I do drink herbal hot teas as needed that are supposed to do various things like detox (that one has loads of ginger) or strengthen the immune system (echinacea).

If nothing else, they encourage me to drink more water when my body needs a boost.

Otherwise, I am getting so much from the green smoothies and the mix of foods I'm eating that I feel great these days.

Yes, I take supplements off and on. For several months I took a broad-spectrum mineral tablet because given all the pop I have had over the years.

A few months ago I started taking a natural prenatal vitamin, again because I believe my body to be so low in essentials as I'm not 100% raw. I consider myself to be in a time of rebuilding and restoring, and so at this point I take vitamins to help as I transition.

At some point after I've been raw a lot longer I intend to discontinue the supplements.

Hope that helps!

I should also mention that I'm starting to feel it's important for me to stick with supplements that I actually feel the effects from, whether immediate or long-term. Though I know they can be helping anyhow, I rarely feel any different with most supplements even though many rave about them. So I stick with what works for me & hopefully raw is taking care of the rest.

I found this old thread very interesting & educational for me. Just wish more people explained Why (reason) they take what they do.

I just started taking Beta Glucan 10mg in hopes it will help with keloids. Wondering if I should have gotten a higher dosage.

I take the Garden of Life RAW vitamins.

Why? After watching Food Matters I decided that having too many nutrients in my body is something I would be happy to have happen.

i take B12 because my blood parameter was quite low (146, should be >200). i will have a control next week, but i think i will take it for longer time to fill up my reservoir.

beyond that i'm thinking about taking wheat grass powder, because of the exciting reports about this miracle cure :D

maca i also put in my smoothies sometimes, but didn't consider it as a supplement? for me it's like cocoa powder or something like that, to add for taste.

I have been taking:

Digestive Enyzmes - Because my stomach has been majorly messed up for a long long long long time and I can't expect it to magically be processing correctly as I transition into/start raw. I hope to only feel the need for these for a few months though, or maybe in cases I eat a bunch of things my stomach isn't used to (like if I suddenly decide to go crazy with some very nut filled meal!).

B12 - I've been tested numerous times in the past and been deficient. Taking this sublingually as I've found any other form makes me feel odd somehow. Take this for energy/fatigue issues.

Vitamin D - Also for energy/fatigue/general wellness

Happy Pill - An herbal conconction that is supposed to be good for anxiety/stress/whatnot. I think its obvious why I'm taking that ;) I truly am finding though that my anxiety is decreasing the more and longer I eat raw, so hope to stop that one soon

Flax Oil - I add this to soups and don't taste it at all. Taking it to help with inflammation and detoxing and all the good stuff it can do (hopefully!) for my insides!

Coconut Oil - I do "oil pulling" with this for healthy teeth and gums, as well as whatever detoxing it might do. I haven't seen huge effects from this yet but I just started. I've read tons of positive things about this so am going to stick with it for at least a month. At the very least I do think it'll help my gums/teeth - any whitening it can do will be worth it.
