View Full Version : For Rebounders
I would like to get into rebounding and a book I am reading suggests a Needak which is pretty expensive.
1. What kind of rebounder do you use.
2. Do you like it?
3. Is there anything I should consider when buying one?
4. Are the expensive ones really worth the money?
Any help you can provide would help a bunch. THanks

I have a cheap one that I bought at Sports Authority. I do not use it very much, but since reading about how good it is for the body I might drag in out and give it another go. I am going to google some exercises tonight! Thanks for reminding me. :D

I don't know the brand of ours. Got it for about $50 at Big Five Sports. I know it is a good one. My mom has had two. Nothing wrong with the first one. She just quit using it and gave it away. Then my nephew got one and when he got older he no longer wanted it. So she took his. They last a very long time.
I bought another one prior to that. Still have it and have never used it but I would caution you about it. It's a folding model. AFAIK there is nothing wrong with it once it is assembled. It's the assembly that can cause problems. In fact it was recalled because of this. Or more to the point I should say the instructions were recalled. Ha!
I bought it because I thought when we were not using it I could just fold it up and stick it under the bed. However it seems to be very difficult to put together and can not be safely done by one person. I'm not even sure it could be done safely by two or three people. Apparently it has very strong "jaws" to it and can snap back upon you, breaking your teeth or various bones in the body. I got that one at Walmart. I would not advise that unless you have a strong sense of danger about you.

I got mine at wal-mart. It was $29.00 I love it! So does my 3 year old son. He never lets me on it. It's officially his... according to him anyway :p
I really like mine. It was a pain to put together.
The first time I used it I thought I was going to die. It gets so easy with each day. Perfect!

Just curious. Is yours the folding kind? That's about what I paid for mine and it's the folding kind. Also got it at Walmart. I don't know what to do with it. Am kind of afraid to give it to anyone because I wouldn't want them to get hurt in assembling it. And I tried to return something to Walmart once. Never again!

This may be slightly off-topic, but I'm wondering if rebounders offer something special that ordinary trampolines do not. Is it just about space-usage or is there something more?

Two different things. On a regular trampoline you can jump high and you don't have to be as careful to land in the same spot. You can also do tricks like flips if you are agile enough. You can even sit down on it then spring up and land on your feet.
A rebounder is not only smaller but has much shorter legs, so you are restricted to somewhat gentle jumping, jogging in place and other more controlled exercises. Now my 8 year old daughter can jump pretty high on it but if an adult tried that they'd likely bump their head on the ceiling. It's not their intent.

Ah, thanks for sharing your perspective, juliebove.
We have a 14' trampoline in our backyard (with a net around it) and I love to use it almost as much as my kids. Funny, because I didn't think of it that way when I purchased it - I thought it would just be for them!
So, what kinds of things do ya'll do on your various trampolines and rebounders (in addition to the movements that juliebove already described)?

1. What kind of rebounder do you use. I use an Urban Rebounder - www.urbanrebounding.com
2. Do you like it? Yes! I do a lot!
3. Is there anything I should consider when buying one? Well, I think structure, reputation. I compared a few and liked this one the best.
4. Are the expensive ones really worth the money? Depends of what you call expensive. Mine is worth what I paid for it.
I have it sitting in my living room and bounce on it at lunch time - I'll throw Fergie into the cd player and jump (me and my lady humps! ;) ) In the evenings I'll bounce during commercials. There is however an "art" (if you will) to rebounding. I have very low ceiling, maybe 7 feet or lower? So the PROPER way to rebound is to keep your upper body, head and all in one spot; and use your thighs and legs. Mine came with a DVD, which thoroughly explains this. Good luck in rebounder shopping. I like it because it really gets the lymphatic system working and that helps with getting rid of toxins and digestion.

We have the Needak Rebounder and it's been worth the $ because it's very well made and looks new even after a couple of years and several moves. It's been on my mind to start using it again (gentle jumping during commercials when watching TV) and I'll just take this post as a confirmation and go do it! :p

Anyone have problems with bouncing post-babies? I have one plus all the urban rebounding tapes but I feel like my insides want to bounce out or I might need to go "potty". Is there something I could wear while I get everything tightened back up? Such as a girdle? Maybe this is too personal but I don't like boucing because of it! Hate to see my rebounder go to waste :(

Brilliant idea. I can't use a rebounder because it puts quite a strain on my lower back, but my 4-year old would love it.
Thanks for the idea.

Where did you buy your Needak Rebounder and what did you pay for it? I guess Needak is the one that was recommended in my book I am reading?

Thanks for your reply. Did you buy yours in a store or online? How much did you pay?

Morn - this is where I got it:

I liked the DVD that came with it and it's reputation. I thoroughly read the web site and compared it to others and just like this one (for me).

YES! The first time i used a trampoline at my sister's house - post baby - I literally PEED in my pants. Not just a little, either. EMBARRASSING!
Yoga has REALLY helped me w/ my pelvic floor strength. Kegal muscles are easy to exercise - while urinating, stop and start the flow of urine. This is the kegal muscle. Every red light while driving, do kegals...
Tennis is also good for kegal strength - something about the quick back and forth foot work.
Anyone who reads my posts or blog knows that I am crazy for Yoga - it's helped everything - bladder control, sex, body image, fitness, strength, flexibility, circulation, sleeping, you name it!!!
Good luck bouncing!

stimulate lymphatics when you bounce correctly (heals up)

You mean like having toes pointed downward as you jump?
Also ~ are you saying that these benefits ONLY occur on a rebounder as opposed to a regular trampoline?

Hi! I need to comment on the problem of wetting oneself while rebounding. . . been there, done that. :o
So I started wearing a light days pad or more sometimes if needed. What a problem, being outside on the big trampoline only to have to jump down and relieve myself!
I talked to a mom of six and she was talking about using the trampoline, so I ask her if this was a problem for her, to which she said, it use to be. She heard that using the trampoline actually strengthened the muscles in question and it is no longer a problem for her.
So this winter I have been using my rebounder daily -- without a pad and without wetting on myself! ;) Of course I do empty my bladder first, but still, I am jazzed. (I use to stop and relieve myself several times during a 20 minute workout.) I think it is working for me! Can't wait to get outside to try the big one --- if the weather ever warms up!
Hope this helps!

1. What kind of rebounder do you use. -- Reboundair (similar to the Needak -- from what I understand these two have a softer bounce than the Urban Rebounder, so they take longer to go up and down and don't work as well with the UR videos -- I've used mine for Fit Prime's G-Force workout and Cardiolates, which both work fine -- I also use it just to rebound on my own to music, TV, or Cardio Coach CDs)
2. Do you like it? -- I love it!
3. Is there anything I should consider when buying one? Getting a high quality one. I know some people like the folding ones for easier storage, but I just bought the one that is solid (a little under $200 w/shipping) and just collapse the legs and put it behind a door or in a closet when I want it out of the way.
4. Are the expensive ones really worth the money? -- I think so. I had a $50 one from Big 5 Sports for about a year and it would make my feel get numb and tingly after about 20-30 minutes of use. The Reboundair is much gentler on my knees too.

I actually bought my rebounder to HELP with pelvic floor strength. A friend of mine told me that once you use the rebounder (wear maxi pads at first), it helps strengthen the sphincter and PF muscles and will improve with use. Very true.
When I haven't used mine in awhile, I have leakage problems when I first get on, but after a day or two, I don't have problems with it anymore.
Also, I've found that it's better to use the rebounder first thing in the morning when there's not as much in your bladder as there is at the end of the day.

I have the urban rebounder. I bought one from Wal-Mart but didn't like it, it was hard and made my knees hurt but the urban rebounder gives and is much better and it is worth every penny. I bought mine off HSN but try ebay as well you might one there pretty cheap.

Nope not folded. It came with two bars I had to stick together and the center part. in the kit comes with springs and a bar to pry the springs on the center part to the rim, and it came with a rim cover.
Unless your pretty strong, ask a man to do it!
