I got a thing of it and am forcing myself (see hair loss freak out) to drink it. Is this something others drink? I got it when I noticed Matt had a couple recipes that called for it in Rawvolution. (I think it was that book - might've been another).

I put it in a small amount of water so I can drink it down fast. I don't like the taste very much.

What kind of superfood? Spirulina, Maca, Vitamineral Green, ____? Or is it just called, "Superfood"?

Hrm... it has spirulina in it... it's just a drink called "Superfood"... trying hard to incorporate green shakes - more apt to get me to drink em if I don't have to make them. Plus, I don't have a sweet tooth at all - so things with mango and stuff tend to be too sweet for me... .weird as I am.

Ohhh, okay. I've never heard of this product. If you had said it was like a spirulina powder or a green powder, I was going to suggest just adding to your fruit smoothies.

I would still add it to fruit smoothies. They (smoothies) will disguise the taste.
I actually drank some almond mylk with a teaspoon of Alissa's green powder in it the other night. To me it was good. I mean it's pretty green tasting. But I like that taste.

Wait, I just re-read it's an actual liquid called Superfood? Ah. Well then, I don't know what to tell 'ya. Hold your nose and drink it. But I prefer to taste and like stuff I drink.

Is it Odwalla brand? If yes, they are super sweet...

Yes, Vegan! That's the one.

Ok. So it's not just me that finds it sweet. Good to know. I'll keep exploring. Think TJ's has one, too...

Beckla - there are a lot of "superfood" type powders that you can mix in water or fruit juice. I prefer the perfectfood from Garden of Life

Matt Monarch uses this:

And my mom loves BarleyMax!

It just depends on what you like. Alissa's book says you don't really need a supplement, but I find my body works better when I'm drinking one of these green drinks! (Not the bottled Odwalla/Bolthouse/Naked kind.....they are not raw.)

I use a superfood powder too, I put it in my smoothies sometimes!

I use to like the Odwalla drinks, but they're not raw. They add a lot of fruit & stuff to disguise the taste so people will buy them.

If you're worried about health issues like hair loss, you'd probably be better off with one of the raw green powders. They usually taste best in a smoothie. When added to my green smoothie, I don't notice the taste at all & I don't even add a ton of fruit. A tsp of coconut oil can also help. Pure Synergy is the only one I know of that doesn't taste awful when added to water. I've tried most of them. Or you can juice wheatgrass, which is probably the #1 solution for hair problems.

G-girl - you are right - Odwalla is not raw - it's been pasteurized/processed. I USED to drink them. Waaay too sweet even back then.

I use Alissa's Green Food (powder) in my fruit smoothies in the a.m. and my green smoothies in the evening. I also throw in a tablespoon of Natural Zing's Spirulina (again a powder).

Thanks you guys.

Thing is - I don't dig smoothies per se. Any juices (sans fancy juicer - I don't have one - say like a really thin blender mix....) that I could mix the powder into without being overly aware of it? I.e., drink that a couple times a day in lieu of my usual several gallons of water a day?

Thanks in advance! :)

I used to mix protein powders into plain ol OJ b4 I was raw. This could work for you too!

Any way that works for you is the right way.

Thanks, hypno!!!! I will definitely look into this. Taking spirulina tablets as a supplement in the interim....

Becka...Im paying attention to everything you do...since I, too, am continuing to lose hair..I hate to sound like a broken record (old time phrase for repeating myself)...but this is not a matter to not repeat...my hair is falling out two months into eating raw....I thank everyone for their suggestions as to the whys but at this time I need to add a supplement...

I bought some hemp powder yesterday...its a cinnamon vanilla flavor...gonna mix it with juice...

...do you think that would be good for my hair loss??? Ive been taking maca, MSM, and nutritional yeast for months.

I can laugh and say oh, I can just wear scarves but frankly, Id rather have my hair thankyouverymuch.

Beckla, please keep posting what your doing about your hair loss.

Thanks, Elaine

Elaine ...

It's a learning process for me as much as it is for you. Before raw, my hair was the healthiest it'd ever been. I say that with conviction - I'd cut my hair off in anticipation of my wedding and spent three years pre-raw carefully growing it back. It was too thick for comfort in the summer.

Bottom line: promise to keep you posted as I continue to learn and figure things out. Just ask that you (and others!) do the same.

=)
