OK seriously, this is insane. It all started over easter and hasn't stopped!!! i am constantly shoving crap into my mouth even when I'm not hungry...WHY WHY WHY???
I'm still raw thank god so its not all hopeless, but could I be missing something? OK So for example...today...I've had:
1 organic raw fibre bar
4 c of cut up fruit (canteloupe/watermelon and banana) for breakfast
handful of prunes (felt a little stopped up lol)
2 c of salad with mixed veggies, 1/4 avocado and 1/2c of mock salmon
apple, pear
baby carrots with mock salmon dip
3/4 c potato salad
rest of the fruit (about 2 c?)
2 huge handfuls of pistachios
remainder of my berry bars (probably about 5-6 3X3 squares, 1/4" thick)
couple dried apricots
It's disgusting...but for some reason I have no control...what the heck...
I have had ZERO exercise today...I was going to go for a run...but then I didnt. I will definitely for sure tomorrow...ugh.
On the menu for tomorrow:
4 c fruit for breakky
another salad with mock salmon
pear
carrot sticks
i think im going to try the philly cheese steak wraps..but i'll probably eat 5 lol
no no I'll try to eat only 2 and bring 2 for work the next day...and I am NOT going to eat anything after that!!!

Are you getting any seaweed? Are there any foods that you stopped eating a few months ago because you didn't like them, but may be needing now?
Damzlfly
04-17-2007, 09:32 PM
Hi Pierre, I am getting seaweed, I love nori rolls. I can't think of anything I stopped eating..everything tastes really good so I eat it all lol
Solace, I eat tons of salads and fresh veggies. I am wondering if I need to do a juice fast or something...maybe i'm thirsty? I drink about 2L of water a day, but at work, when I get home, I don't always drink more...could that be it?
Do you take digestive enzymes? Perhaps your food is just passing through you so your body is always hungry? It may not be getting everything it needs. Our bodies aren't used to all the raw food so it takes it a while to get acclimated.

i could have written this post! me too -- eating constantly. all raw & all good food -- but it's not good. i can't stop thinking about my next meal or snack.
i am thrilled that it's not junk food -- but still, this is CRAZY!
i've been thinking about a fast -- but i'm just not ready. i wish i had an answer. i will be reading this thread with keen interest. since misery loves company, here's what i ate yesterday:
before breakfast: sunflower seeds & raisins
b: 2 bananas & tea
l: huge salad with greens, veggies & sunflower seeds & raisins
after lunch: apple dipped in honey
mid afternoon snack: dates, grapes, carrots & raisins (i pretty much snacked on these things until dinner)
d: 3 nori rolls w/ walnut 'meat', avocado & cherry tomatoes
few tastes of things: marinating veggies, pineapple parfait
dessert: 2 coconut/chocalte macaroons
after dinner: 2 nori rolls w/ mock chicken salad w/ raisins (delish!)
HELP!!!!!!!
Hi Damzlfly
I hear you on this one.
I had gotten in to the habbit of STUFFING myself - really eating alot!!
It started after I broke up w. my xbf and whenever I wanted to call him I would eat instead - BAD idea. After every meal I fell overly full, nauseous and bloated - sooo the last couple of days I've been paying attention to chewing REALLY thoroughly and after I finish eating a meal...I stop - don't go to the fridge to see if there is more to snack on. nop - because I know my stomach will feel baaaad.
I think a big part of this is phychological.
Btw. I gained like 6 lbs the last 20 days - not cool.
Apart from that; are you very "small" in height - your weight is so miniscule?:p

Ps. Good luck w. it!!

I'm going through the same thing, BUT, it's right before I have my monthly cycle. I usually get really hungry like this any where from 5-10 days before and then goes back down right before it starts. Could this be what is going on?

i completely relate to this post. . . i go through times when i do the exact same thing. . . and wonder why.
i think sometimes it's the cold weather, in the spring and summer i definitely eat less and am more busy and satisfied, but cold and miserable maybe i look to food to soothe me? and it could also be our bodies needing more insulation. . .
i also am not extremely good at drinking water, staying hydrated might have a lot to do with stuffing ourselves, but i don't know if anyone else experiences this but i get really cold when i drink water, no matter how long it's been at room temperature ( i never drink cold water). . . so it doesn't really motivate me during the chilly months to drink a lot.
but it's completely frustrating, not feeling satiated and poor food combining. . . hmmm.

I personally feel better when I eat a lot. Like I'm getting enough calories and nutrients for the day. I wouldn't feel bad about it. I've been watching Alissa's DVD and she talks about eating as much as you want, not depriving yourself, especially in the beginning. Over time we need less food because we are absorbing efficiently.

Thanks everyone for your insight...I guess I feel bad because I know I don't need the food, I'm not even hungry, its just there and I'm like Pavlov's dog! lol

Ana, no I don't...I've only been raw about 2 months, but I was high raw for 6 months prior...thing is...I'm not hungry
Why are you so hard on yourself? No one is judging you....certainly not ME....or the wonderful/supportive folks on this board. There are no raw food police.
David, it's because I lost 30+ lbs 2 years ago and I see myself starting to exhibit the same patterns of eating when bored and not hungry...but you are right, I am probably overreacting...
maybe a deficit of omega-3 fats or vit B12
Lightlover - C'est possible? I eat nuts, avo's and TONS of leafy greens...where does B12 come from?
i could have written this post! me too -- eating constantly. all raw & all good food -- but it's not good. i can't stop thinking about my next meal or snack.
Kiropa, thank GOD!! I'm so glad to her its not just me...Alba, Blacktulipand Juicyfruit too...maybe it is a hormonal thing. Unfortunately I have not had a period in 9 months (co-incidentally..NO I'M NOT PREGNANT!) I have a 'syndrome' so I dont even know when my 'PMS' time really is anymore...it used to be towards the end of the month...but that doesnt explain my gluttony since Easter lol...

Solarliving, I would too if it wasnt all fatty stuff (dried fruits and nuts and desserts and the like)...how I wish I could graze on carrot sticks...argh.
so far today, I've had -
raw fibre bar,
smoothie of the 4 c of fruit
pear
HUGE salad with 1/2 c mock salmon, loads of veggies, dried cherries and apricots
1/2 c dried apricots (the rest not in the salad)
I made hummous so I had to sample it...just a few licks.
I'm going to have some tea now and hope I can make it thru till dinner...yikes. On the plus side, I ran/power walked (4.0-5.2 MPH) for 30 min and had a 20 min sauna. Now I have a headache...going to go lie down..
continuation of the food...
I had a pot of chai tea
baby carrots and hummous
1/2 an orange
3 collard wraps of the philly cheesesteak recipe (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=3401)
and I made 3 batches of pesto sauce, so I had a handful of cashews...
thats it. i want some banana raspberry ice cream...but I'm going to resist.

As you can see I ate a lot of nuts yesterday. Felt great!

Maybe you're just hungry. Also think about why you're eating. Most people don't eat for nutrition, they eat for pleasure. And when you go raw that changes, raw food doesn't fill you up in the same ways as cooked food. So think about why you're eating. Are you hungry or are you trying to fill something up besides your stomach?

hmm, well if you've identified that you've had some past eating habits of over-eating, then perhaps that's all it is.
I've noticed that at certain "times of the month", my hormones propell me to seriously gorge myself on food and i feel full and stuffed. Perhaps it's hormonal?

I'm so glad to her its not just me...Alba, Blacktulipand Juicyfruit too...maybe it is a hormonal thing. Unfortunately I have not had a period in 9 months
I haven't had my period since i went raw. i've discussed it with lots of different health practicioners and done all sorts of research, and no one has any very solid ideas as to why, except a lack of body fat. i feel wonderful and energetic, so i guess i'm not super worried, there have been posts on this before, but since it was mentioned again ( do you think being raw is why you haven't had one in 9 months, damzlfly?) i thought i'd ask for any thoughts.
i don't mind eating lots of food, i guess i get frustrated with poor food combining and that bloated, yucky feeling that comes from too many different foods, too many nuts or dried fruit, etc.
luckily i've been loving carrots and sweet potatoes lately. . . crunchy and satisfying!

I ditto every other post on this thread.
Recently (the past...3 months?) I've been eating like crazy most days, to the point where I feel bloated and sick. ALOT of it is anxiety (CONSTANTLY), but I really am sad that I can't "control" it, unless I revert back to my ED-esque ways.
I too have not had my period for a year, but I don't lack body fat: I have more than enough. I want to get rid of it. Desperatly. But I can't while I over-eat continuously.
Oyyyyyy

04-18-2007, 03:53 PM
what have you been eating?
SmilingRawDancer
04-18-2007, 04:12 PM
All raw.
Today:
2 Apples
2 Bananas
2 Oranges
3 tbsp. of cacao
2 serving of nuts (walnuts and cashews)
4 cups shredded spinach + Broccoli (food processed)
1 cup Salsa
2 Medjool Dates
1 tbsp Nutritional Yeast
Thats just so far though. It doesn't look that bad when it's written down (today isn't bad though), but it's the feeling I get. I know that I'm eating when I'm not hungry.
It's a mental drive to cram stuff in my mouth.
I'm a small build as well (5'2"), and I'm not leading a very active life-style. At best, I get an hour on the treadmill (walking uphill 3 MPH) a few times a week.

That really isn't that much. It's true when you write it down you realize you're actually eating less than you think. I would go eazy on yourself right now about how much you're eating. As Alissa says, "This diet is about freedom." If you want nuts then eat them. I believe your body will tell you when you want something else.
Perhaps you cannot stop eating because the food tastes so good : )

I just get the feeling that I either:
A. Have thyroid issues
B. Have the worlds worst metabolism
C. Am eating too many calories
D. I'm too sedentary
I'm always cold, I have a hard time warming up in the mornings, and I have a big buildup of abdominal fat. My body doesn't use what I eat to generate heat, it stores it as fat. And it's irritating.
I'd be fine with thick thighs and a big bootay, but...the tummy thing is not cool.
Damzlfly

I can relate...I only have 1/2 of my thyroid. Have you had yours checked? Or just eat more sea veggies. Iodine is great for your thyroid...speaking of which, I think nori rolls are on the menu this week...I also have dulse but am not sure what to do with them quite yet. And, metabolism and thyroid issues go hand in hand. I don't know if you are 100% but if not, DO NOT EAT SOY!! Soy SLOWS thyroid function. That includes tofu, tempeh and TVP!
I can't thank everyone enough on your kind words and ideas. I feel better today after not eating myself stupid. I think the philly cheese steaks really gave me something I was lacking because other than a handful of peas, I've been OK tonight. YAY!! I'll weigh myself tomorrow and see if this bloat is going away...

can I stick to it?? probably not...
Off to eat my grapefruit...

we have a lot in common. i had my thyroid removed a few years ago due to a mass (sub-total, so there's a little left). interesting, i am obsessed w/ nori. bet my body is telling me something.
also haven't had a period in forever. originally i thought it was because i was nursing my youngest daughter. i stopped nursing in december & still nothing.

I am SO glad to have read these! I thought I had a problem. Reading all these books on living raw and the people that only eat two mangos, one avocado and greens - and nothing else for the day! I keep eating - all raw - but, it seems, too much! However, thanks for the thought that it will change in time. That helps! Sometimes, I just plain eat more because I am so frustrated about eating so much! I keep reminding myself to just RELAX and take it easy and enjoy. I think I still have to get over all the weight loss ideas that were drummed into my head throughout the years.

I know I eat A) because I'm bored B) because everything in my fridge looks delicious C) because its just there...argh
Today its been good..I'm trying the every 2-3 hours thing, but just little. I had my grapefruit @ 8, an apple @10 and its noon now and I'm going to get my lunch ready...I have an orange for 3ish and then dinner is usually 530-6.
I too see the postings of barely any food..one day maybe I'll get there.
OK - THIS IS AMAZING!
'Gotta share: As mentioned I started over-eating after breaking up w. bf (well, now x)....and got in to this bad cirkle of just eating until AFTER fullness - waaaay beyond feeling satidfied. I was suddenly bloated after EVERY meal - even a piece of cucumber.
Anyway - one day I read something on chewing the food and how it is important to stimulate certain hormones, which tell you when to stop eating.
I have now been chewing thoroughly - like, untill it's almost liquid and taking breaks to talk, go get something or whatever.
AND - this simple thing - the most basic reflex of all has now saved me from feeling ´like crap.
There is TONS of info on the net if you google The importance of chewing or do a banana-button search.
The weight I gained from óvereating is being released and my stomach is gas-less, flat and neutral-feeling. it is truly amazing.
and oh yeah - I eat like 1/3 of what I used to. simply because I feel satisfied!

I actually was thinking of that yesterday and have been making a conscious effort to chew each piece of food a minimum of 20 times...it does help...and it takes longer to eat (usually I am done b4 everyone gets started). I did it today with my lunch wraps and tho I'm full, I don't feel 'stuffed'...my tummy is still flat and not bloated YAY!

Chew your food? Hmmm, what a concept. :) I think I'll try it too. I'm definitely an emotional eater. The past few days I've been eating a few things that are refined and not raw and then I feel guilty about it (which I hate) and then I want to eat again... Crazy. So, I am going to really focus on chewing and savoring my food. I did this during my weight loss process (I went from 171 to 140 and I'm 5'6" and muscular) and it made a huge difference.
Thanks for the reminder! ;)

Hahaha this is one of the more memorable moments I've had on RFT :)
So far, it honestly HAS made a difference in why/how I eat. (And I only focused on doing it for one meal today so far.)
I'm going to stop keeping track of what I eat ALTOGETHER, just for awhile.
I almost need to re-learn HOW to eat. It's odd saying that, but it's true.
I want to eat when I'm hungry, and stop when I'm full. I want to intuitively eat what my body needs. Even though I've been eating raw for a long while now, I still have issues with "scheduled" eating. It's very hard to break out of something you're raised with. I STRONGLY advise parents to never focus on how much/ when your kids eat. I would stop when I was full, and one/both of my parents would notice how much I had left on my plate, and even though the comments they would make were somewhat subtle, it still subconsciously ingrained this need to finish EVERYTHING on the plate, and eat EVERY meal of the day, and my brain feels somewhat....unsatisfied, if I don't.
If they would have just let me eat when I wanted, and stopped when I wanted (as nature intended it!!!!!), I don't think I would have any of the food issues that I have today.

Wow...SRD! You have reached an epiphany! Frighteningly enough I have had the exact same upbringing...and as such, the same 'scheduled' food issues. I agree with the 'not tracking' thing...just concentrate on enjoying each morsel of food. I am making sure I'm taking in enough water too. So far I have had 2L of water and I think I need another. Sometimes I feel hungry when I am just thirsty. So I've been drinking when I feel hungry to see which one it is, and it been more thirst than anything else. Weird eh?

Untill just now, I didn't check into fitday and write anything down right after I ate it (like I usually do!), I just ate what I REALLY felt like, when I felt like it.

I just started on raw this past Monday. I feel like I'm just not getting enough to eat. I am still always hungry. Is it in my head. But yes, I'm always eating, even though it's raw, I'm still eating all the time. BUT, I've lost 7 pounds just since Monday. So I'm not worried. If you're eating even when you're not hungry, maybe it's for comfort. But it looks like you're doing great on you loss so keep it up.

dinner will be a salad with peas, cukes, avo, peppers, and a dollop of sprouted chick pea and red pepper hummus as dressing....mmmm
Going to a party tonight so I will probably nibble on veggies and fruit...tho i will try to restrain myself...I'm usually OK when I'm around company.

girls I just chewed my dinner:p
I NEEDED 40 MINUTES to finish my salad that I could easily get down in 10 minutes:D
What a victory and it feels great!! I was not stressed and not getting out of breath:D
Btw: It had been sticks of carottes, peppers, cukumber and some cherrietomatoes with avo-dip(one common plate full) :p

Sh*t! I did it again...I was good today, I made the breakfast scramble, took 1/2 and wrapped them in corn tortillas and had that for breakfast, ate dinner around 5 and it was a HUGYMONGOUS salad and a collard wrap and I was pretty full (the salad was truly monstrous)...and then I wanted something sweet...so out came the dates...and raisins...ugh...my belly hurts. I think i am going to NOT buy any dried fruit or nuts for a while. I think thats my downfall. I have tons of nuts in my freezer i'm going to soak and re-dry. why why why???

I did alright! I could have chewed a litttttle better, but considering all the stress I'm going through, I did great :)
I need to stop buying dates and nuts too lol
HI Girls!
This chewing-thing is definetly working for me!
Today; on the scale I weighed 53,1 as oppsed to 55,20 (57,00 after lunch)
--> So, in just a week I've effortelessly lost about 5 lbs. and that is such a nice feeling; esp. because I suspect it was water-weight and I felt unnaturally bloated.
It seems that, now that my body doesn not need to process as much food it has time to cleanse a bit more!
Chewing food thoroughly is my new passion.
before I would eat so fast and so much that I felt almost numb to the fulness-sensation - and go grab some more; just a fruit or whatever; and then BAM it would hit me and I would feel so BLECK!
Now, I give my body time to react on it's own signals and I think I've only had the bleck-feeling once (when I ate too late in the evening!)
So - tell me all about it....I am thinking about starting a Chewing-thread on RFT...It deserves it's own space:p

YAY ALBA!!!
I have been more up than dow, but I am still chewing lol. I am starting the master cleanse tomorrow so watch this baby shrink! I meant to do a juice feast/fast a couple of months ago and then something came up and I didn't do it...my body has been screaming for a cleansing since then so yesterday i stocked up on 20 lemons, maple syrup (Mennonite made - grade b) and my cayenne...so I'm good to go. I hope to break my food addiction by doing this. I constantly think about food, when my next meal will me, what I'm going to have etc instead of intuitively listening to my body. I plan on taking the next 10 days (at least) to learn about myself. Why I overeat, why I can't hear my body speak, why I MUST eat everything off my plate instead of stopping when I'm full etc etc.
Wish me luck! My first salt water flush is set for tomorrow morning to kick start the cleanse :) YAHOO! I'm excited!

Ahhh It's like you're saying what's in my brain Damzlfly.
I'm doing alright, but for some reason I have SUCH urges to overeat these past couple days. Not cravings for cooked crap, not a craving for anything in particular...just something in my mouth. I can't stand it.
Am I lacking something nutritionally? I still take a multi-vitamin, I eat lots of Omega-3's etc (I don't skimp on fats), I try my best to eat greens every day, but for the most part I'm a fruity gal.
