My MIL sent me this article...haven't really had time to look over the whole thing, but just wanted to let you all know what is in the works.

This is so ridiculous... It makes me feel sick. I am writing to the FDA... not that it will do anything but what else can we do? I also posted to another site... anyone with blogs that get a lot of traffic may want to post this up as well...

OH come ON now!!
Ok I have an idea. We get everyone on this board to throw in $100. We buy an island in the south pacific, name it Rawfoodia, have Alissa, Ertarox, Maraw and RP open up a KICK-ASS restaurant where we all rotate shifts and we live happily ever after growing crops and living off Mother Nature..
Who's in??

why call it something with the word "raw" in it? there would be no need to differentiate between raw or cooked because there would be nothing cooked.
less focus on food and more focus on LIFE!!
i'd just call it Paradise ;)

I wrote the following letter:
We are writing in concern to TWO major issues of great concern to our health and well being.
1.) We will not stand by and watch the FDA take away our freedom to access vitamins, supplements, herbs, and homeopathic medicine. This will directly affect our everyday life. I am saddened and outraged that this would ever be considered. What right does the FDA have to take American citizens rights to good health away. That is exactly what is and will happen if this is not overturned docket # (No. 2006D-0480).
2.) We are in disbelief that we will be unable to walk in a grocery store and buy truly “Raw” almonds. We eat raw almonds everyday just about. It is part of our healthy lifestyle. My family and I believe that uncooked, or “living food”, offer substantial health benefits. I am disturbed by the fact that I will not be able to buy a truly raw almond after September 1. This will affect our life every single day! Also I a concerned by the fact that it will be allowed to still label almonds as “RAW” when in fact they will not be raw considering the chemical and heat treatments. Pasteurization is treatment with propylene oxide and this substance is classified by the International Agency for Research on Cancer as “possibly carcinogenic to humans”. Other countries such as: Canada, Mexico, and the European Union have already banned propylene oxide.
Also this docket was ruled upon without properly made aware of to citizens. No consumers were present and our voices were not heard. We along with many other citizens feel deprived of our right to participate in the rulemaking process regarding this very important issue to us. We demand that the USDA postpone implementation of the almond pasteurization requirement and reopen the formal public comment period. Give us our rights back! 7 CFR Part 981, Docket No. FV06-981-1 FR.
Sincerely,
Wrote it to my local government offices per congress.org

This literally makes me cry. Why are humans SO willing to sell their souls for a buck?
I think there are a lot of people moving toward organic - just looking in my grocery store, there are whole aisles dedicated to raw, organic, gluten free, etc... Is that just my town?
Anyway, thanks for the heads-up, Portiz.

The FDA typifies "spiritual wickness in high places." ... they, and so many other gov't regulatory agencies who were entrusted, as civil "servants" -- our servants -- to protect the public good.
Big Oil, Big Food, Big Drugs, etc, etc - the FDA is now beholden solely to the powerful interests who control them. Cronyism is at an all time high.
Not only do they fail to serve and protect us as they should, but they throw open wide the floodgates to our collective destruction.

"I am just 20 years old and I am very afraid for my future and what is to come. Where does this end? When is the line drawn? Chemical man made drugs that harm many people every year are ok, but NATURAL herbs and oils are going to be mandated? That is absurd and outrageous. Just because they are natural substances that can help promote health (not "cure") it means they must be approved. This, in my opinion, is just for money and complete control of the population. It also removes the freedom US citizens fought so hard for in the past and should still be here today, not being stripped from us more and more. The FDA wants complete control it seems. This is not just about the herbs, essential oils, etc. There is a bigger picture many aren't looking at. Once the choice for people that are ill to use natural remedies to help them is gone, where do they turn? That's right, drugs. The things that harm health, not promote it.
I am currently majoring in nutrition. I'd like to help people with their illnesses or diseases NAUTRUALLY and without drugs. Not cure them, but to help their bodies heal themselves with the assistance of natural herbs. Once the natual herbs/vitamines/etc. are taken away the whole industry may get whiped out and waht is left? Exactly, the drug industry and I believe that's exactly what the FDA wants. This entire subject gets me outraged and upset. We're people too. Give us our freedom and let us chose how to live our lives. That includes what we put in or on our bodies. "
This is what I have up in another window ready to send it to the FDA. I just want to makek sure it sounds ok. I'm not good with words, especially if I get upset. Another thing is that I havn't read the entire bill, but have only read through comments on RFT what it's about. If I'm off base please let me know!

Well, I'm glad I was able to pass this along...my MIL deserves all the credit. Ever since she and I first opened the Natural Cures book, we have both been on a roller coaster ride of what we have found along the way.
She told me about the fast food nation movie, something about KFC, tyson, and the way they treat thier chickens...
I am just glad we can still come together to fight for what we believe in...and Dreamrawalz...you may be 20 but you sound like you should be running for office somewhere.

Office, really? No thanks. I'm not good in public. Well, I'm ALMOST 20, but they don't have to know that ;) I wanted to emphasize that the herbs would not "cure" the sick, but assist their bodies. I know they don't like ANYTHING curing illnesses or diseases unless it's a man made chemical. It just frustrates me so much.

The other important issue with this that hasn't been mentioned is that it doesnt just target natural herbs and supplements....
..... it targets at covering up and destroying the great wisdoms of native tribes and old world cultures. The information we have now has taken THOUSANDS of years to accumulate for our benefit.
It is the tradition of our ancestors.
It is the medicinal wisdom of the Shaman.
It is the history of botany.
Where exactly do herbs come from? How did we learn of their benefits?
I mean uneducated people really dont question and think of the validity of how important it is to NOT put this under strict regulation.
Look at the Native Americans for example...
They are still paying for the crimes committed against them when this country was settled. What did the white man give them to take control of their land?? you guessed it!!! DRUGS.
Drugs??? oh yes... ---> ALCOHOL
give them alcohol and take their identity away from them.
take their identity away and you have full power over the land.
take away the last freedom = ceremony & tradition that helps preserve culture and history....which is so closely connected to tribal wisdom ...... and you have nothing but empty people with no purpose in life.
I took "Drug Abuse & Criminal Behavior" at the University....did a brief study of Fetal Alcoholism in Native Alaskans & Americans once.
Interesting. I got a big fat A+ on my research paper when my professor saw me make the connection of identity to alcoholism with Native Americans and how it destroyed their culture.
This doesnt just hit us at a level of Health Freedom... it goes back to the Trail of Tears.

Good point Tweety. Most don't think BACK, but more in the present and future. It's all one though. It all relates to one another.

Beef packing plant is one of the most dangerous place to work. If you can walk away from that plant with 5 full digits on your hands, you are doing something right.

The movie Fast Food Nation changed the way my family thinks about food. For me, it's not just about the meat - it's about the way the employees and animals are treated - or should I say MIS-treated. Horrible.
What have you heard about Tyson? They claim to have natural, hormone-free and antibiotic free chicken... I've heard about KFC on the PETA website.
