View Full Version : Making Smoothies the night before

I usually make a giant (like HUGe...I'm talking huge) smoothie for breakfast....but it takes up a lot of my morning and my mom hates the blender whether she is awake or asleep. So if I made my smoothie the night before, would it hurt the nutrient content in any way? Would it be that much less fresh? In what ways would it affect my smoothie and the nutrition within it?

thanks :)

In the recent interview Revvell did with Victoria B., she stated that green smoothies last up to 3 days in the fridge and that the fiber preserves it, unlike with juice where all of the fiber is removed and so the juice oxidizes more rapidly. I don't know how true it all is, but I do know that I've had smoothie in the fridge (green and non-green) for a couple of days (made a lot of it and it didn't get drank all at once) and it was fine - just shake and go. As for nutrient content, I'm not sure how much or how little is lost by this process but I'm sure it's not that much. Of course as with anything, the fresher the better, but if you have to make it the night before, then you will still benefit from them and I wouldn't allow that to deter me from making/having smoothies just because it's made the night before - you do what you have to do!

Thanks Rawkinlocs :)
I can and do make the smoothies every morning...its just that I would have SO much more time in the morning and probably wouldn't be running late all the time if I made them the night before...sooo I have a decision to make. HMMM

Thanks for sharing that Rawkinlocs,
I hadn’t heard Victoria B. say that but that makes me happy. I make 2 or 3 quarts of smoothies once a day. Usually in the afternoon. I drink one right away and put one or two in the fridge where they sit overnight. I give them a good shake and they taste pretty much the same to me. Watermelon and apple tend to separate more then other fruits if you let them sit around. Flax and blueberries tend to thicken up a smoothie if it sits in the fridge overnight.

I drink mine throughout the day and sometimes the next day. What I do though is, if I know I'm not going to drink the stuff all at once, divide it into smaller jars so to keep the air out. I've got a personal blender and use those jars, mason jars.. whatever so I have enough in each for one of MY servings...

I sometimes store mine in Mason Jars for the next day if I know I am going to be extra busy.
