Hi everyone,

Well, right now I'm not happy.......I seem to have a problem here. Whenever I try to eat simply, I seem to eat too many fruits, and greens and never get full and keep eating until I'm sick and I have heartburn at night, etc. etc. On the other hand, I really can't eat straight nuts because they give me a horrible headache and I get naseus from too many avocados. The only time I seem to be doing okay is if I eat the recipes WITH salads at meals and only have one serving of fruit in the morning on an empty stomach. The only problem is, I don't have time to make these recipes and when I buy them from raw food restaruants, I only get a chance to at night and it's just so expensive. So it's like, I have a loose loose situation here. Today, I was feeling so bad, and so depressed that it's been over two months now and I'm really struggling every day and driving myself insane over food (I'm concentrating on food too much for this to be a healthy relationship) so for breakfast I had brown rice and steamed veggies and for lunch I had lots of sushi and lots of more rice!!! I had cooked food and now I feel like such a failure! Please help me! Please give me any tips that help you get through the day.............I'm so unhappy but I still feel like RAW is the best way to be.

Hey.
RawNnyc; as you seem to have not so much time, how about everyday
make a big smoothie, with green vegetables, sprouts/sprouted nuts/seeds green powder, sea vegetables and a little fruit?

hi there,
i am not a doctor but when i read your thread i thought that maybe you will benefit from digestive enzymes and since alissa sells them and they are of good quality you could always buy them from her.
good luck!

ps
i wish i had other good advice about the journey - but we are all different. for me it is all about emotional eating and being sure to have yummy raw things around for those times where i would eat my own arm if i could ;)
and as long as i do that i seem to have no other problems.

You might wish to listen to the second show Alissa and I did and also my intrview with Victoria Boutenko. I think both of these address your situation. You'll find links to both on this site.

Hi there,

i've been doing 100% raw for two months and initially i was over-eating and getting a tummy ache as well...

What's worked for me is really focusing on good food combining and eating slowly. I'll chew all my food until it is a liquid or focus on drinking fruit or green smoothies so my digestion is a lot better.

i also find that i get more food in by volume when i blend my meals so i feel fuller without over-eating and it's easier to stop.

as others said above, perhaps look into taking some digestive enzymes? also, my naturopath said to stop drinking ice-cold water with meals and instead drink room-temperature water between meals to help with digestion. that helps me as well.

hope that makes sense and helps.

be well,
lindsay

Do you mean put all of that in one smoothie? What does that taste like?

i'm wondering what you crave. . . if you can hear anything your body seems to be asking for when you're hungry? i noticed those cravings became very strong once i went raw, my body seemed to know exactly what it needed and maybe my head got clearer to hear it or my body was just speaking louder!

i've been 100% raw for over a year now and tried all kinds of things, and found that my body does best with whole and fresh fruits and vegetables, spirulina mixed with green smoothies and very little nuts, (always soaked and sprouted or ground very finely) and trying to keep a more mono-eating pattern (not mixing fats and proteins and carbs too much). I don't do well with dehydrated things- tending to sit very heavily and create gas and bloating (as nuts do), but i use pumpkin and sesame seeds ground finely into a paste or butter quite frequently and avocados to get essential fats.
It's definitely easy to get frustrated when your body reacts like yours seems to be to all those foods you know are healthy. But definitely blend greens- as they are difficult to digest, and maybe check out Gabriel Cousen's books, talking lots about ayurvedic and raw foods- you can find out what your dosha is and i feel my best following the eating pattern for my particular dosha (vata) most closely.
I hope things turn around for you. . . because i wish raw happy food for everyone!!

in ayurvedic teachings, there are three doshas (or body-mind constitutions) vata, kapha and pitta. . . and there's a whole breakdown of your strongest tendancies and a guide to making the best food choices for each individual. I love this because we're all so different, what works for one doesn't always work for another, and it's flexible and personalized.
there's so much information, and i can't begin to do it justice, so if you can find Conscious Eating on amazon (used or something) i highly recommend finding it or splurging on this amazing book- there's a whole self-interview to find your dosha and foods for each to avoid or use in moderation or that are great for your dosha . . . plus so many recipes and pages and pages of raw information and scientific data. . .. really recommend it!

I also get hungry eating just fruits and vegetables, and it helps me to be sure to add a little fat. For example, in the morning I cut up 3 or 4 pieces of fruit, add a couple of teaspoons of tahini or almond butter, and I'm good until noon. It works just as well to blend it all up. On alternate mornings I start with a couple of pieces of fruit, (whatever looks good or needs to be eaten up), put it in the blender, then add greens and sprouts almost to the top, along with tahini or almond butter and a cup or so of water. That keeps me going nicely until lunch as well. (Snacking mid-morning is not a regular option for me, and I like feeling comfortable till noon or so.)
For lunch I most often pack a good sized salad, with sprouts and homemade dressing. It also works well to have a small container of nut cheese or a pate` which I spread on flax crackers or just eat plain . Then I'm good until I take the 35 minute drive to the pool or gym Enroute I eat a plum and a apple. When I finally get home at 7:30, I may eat a banana if I'm hungry, or something that's leftover in the refrigerator. I also like to have a little raw dessert -- a couple of pieces of fudge, or cookies. Most of the time, I'm quite satisfied with this arrangement. I have been raw sinvce Dec. 27th and have lost 29 pounds.
Good luck!

Hemp powder and spirulina do wonders to help me feel full and energized.

Smoothies save the day as they are fast, nutrient dense and yummers (satisfying!) I work and write and do not have the time or inclination to make alot of recipes. I exist of mostly fruits in the am, a salad or smoothie for munch n- lunch, a fruit or veggie snack in the aft (often carrots, or celery with almomd butter for energy and bulk), then salads with avo or nuts for dinner, often with a really decadent dressing. I am bad and eat raw ice cream at night when I write on the laptop and watch scary movies, too!

I am currently fond of veggies with raw sour cream mixed with v/ little garlic, nama shoyu, sea salt and pepper (tastes like french onion dip) Takes about 5 seconds to stir and serve. A very filling meal.

RawNYC-

I have seen you struggling here for a bit, and I really want to send you some props for sticking with it and investing so much positive energy into healing yourself.

When I see you mention that you feel like a failure, I have to speak up. No way are you a failure at ALL. To use raw food as your "medicine" is a choice, not a test. There is no passing or failing. You have excelled by simply being here.

First, I am sorry that you are feeling so bad, and are struggling so!

I might have asked you before, but have you ever been tested for food allergies? I have a gut feeling this might be part of your problem.

Do you have any seasonal allergies, say to ragweed for instance?

If you are eating something you are allergic to, it will wreak havoc on your digestive system, and it won't heal until you remove the offending food. Trust me on this one. Your stomach will just keep getting more and more sensitive and more allergies will develop.

I went to a conventional allergist for my allergy testing, you can get a referal from your doctor. Or, there are some labs that offer this through the mail, they can send you a kit to collect a small sample of blood, and then they will test this blood to check for any and all food allergies. Make sure it is the ELISA test.

I think I remember you posting about candida? Candida is usually caused by leaky gut syndrome, which is usually caused by food allergies. This might be the missing puzzle piece for you.

To further emphasize, let me say this: Raw is fantastic, it is the healthiest way to eat. But if you have food allergies, raw food alone will not heal them. Hope that makes sense!
