if you are supposed to fully rest during a juice fast, can you run or work out at all? i am going to mexico in a month to surf waves as big as my house and i need all the strength and endurance i can amass. should i fast after that trip instead of before so that i can truly rest?

id suggest waiting until after. unless you were planning on juice feasting?
drinking the entirety of your calories everyday? (about a gallon..)
tons and tons and tons of OJ would probably give you energy enough to surf around the world once you got through detox..

Solace - He meant atrophe, but I like "apathy."
Sounds like my muscles. :D
Rawsurfer - demanding events require ongoing nourishment, and juice fasting / feasting is the way to go. Water fasting requires bedrest or a very mellow situation.
Hope that helps.

IF you are doing an extended fast, best to wait until you get back.
Simply put.......
REST is crucial in fasting.
Here's a simple question. Why accelerate the depletion of your body's reserves when you are not eating? The body adapts to fasting by shutting down the digestive system....blood pressure drops and all organs adapt --doesn't make sense to put your body under distress or exertion during this concentrated time.
Brisk walking, yoga, stretching and meditating are ideal.

Hahahahaaaaa. I'm sitting here cracking up! Whew!! I love it!
I'd wait to get back. As a current juice feaster, I have to share that I DO have great energy, but I can't yet do extreme physical exercise. If you were going on a yoga retreat I'd say go for it, but hitting the waves and performing downward dogs are two different beasts.
I did a 20 minute workout at the gym and was winded. My body is trying to work some stuff out, and as Misslinda shared, why take away the energy you are tying to put towards healing by doing hard physical exercise.
If you really want to fast during your trip, I'd agree with the others in saying juice feasting is the way to go. But really, I say have fun on your trip. Eat the best raw foods you can find and begin your fast when you get back.
Have a ball surfing those waves!!
