hey guys!! This saturday I had the pleasure to dine at Pure Food and Wine in NYC and it was amazing!!! I wanted to post some pictures of what we had and i'm doing a full review of the restaurant in my raw journal which you can find the link to at the bottom of this post.

just thought people would find this interesting and fun!
enjoy!
(sorry the pics aren't TOO bright... it's pretty dark in there and I didn't want to use my flash)

appetizer: califlower samosas with banana tamarind sauce and some sort of chutney stuff on top, I think it was papaya or mango maybe? soooo good and spicy!

my dinner: mushroom and nut cheese ravioli with some sort of sauce that tasted pesto-ish. The ravioli itself was made from coconut meat. delish! my friend liked mine better than hers.

my friends dinner: tamales with cocoa mole, avocado, and sour cream. I LOVED this. I liked hers better than mine and was AMAZED with the sour cream!!!

dessert: trio of ice cream. From the left to the right: chamomille (sp) tasted VERY sweet, plum with kiwi on top (the best of the three), and green tea with pistachio (sp) nuts on top. If I didn't know better I'd think they were REALLY ice cream.

It was a bit pricey but if you get a chance to go.. do it!

I haven't posted my full review on my blog just yet but will hopefully do it tonight or by tomorrow night at the very least.

Oh wow Luna!

That all looks unreal!!! Thanks so much for posting these.

Just a quick question, what were the ravioli wrappers made of?

Looking forward to your review...

Thanks for posting the pics! It looks like a wonderful meal!
I'm soooo jealous. I would love to be able to go to ANY raw restaurant, but Pure Food and Wine is definitely at the top of the list.

Sigh...

one day there WILL be a raw food restaurant in Australia... one day...

Right now I'd just settle for one that had maybe one or two dishes. I am so sad.

But happy you got to have such a wonderfully tasty time!

i adore pure food and wine so much, and haven't been for almost six months now. . . but my mum and i are going on monday!!!!! SO excited, she's only heard me rave about it and we are going to stuff ourselves there and at Quintessence, i always order extra and take it with me for picinics the next day in Central Park, shopping, gallery-hopping, etc.
My mouth is watering just thinking about it!

School or Rawk, Marci and Carmella + all here,
There you go....another challenge at hand from the pictures. Maybe Carmella or others will join in. I think one of you guys may have the samosas. I'm patiently waiting your "reinventing the wheel." No pressure of course, but really yes to see the beauty you create. Thanks for welcoming the challenge if time permits. Everyone welcome to join in.

oh carolg... if I could recreate anything from that night it would definitely be the corn tamales ... they were crazy delicious!! actually, maybe I'll try to do that and make them for my honey when he gets back from his trip next week! I have the pure food and wine cookbook and the recipe is in there, I just think it's pretty extensive and involved.. but oh so worth it if I can make it taste like it did in the restaurant!

thanks for the inspiration!

I'm with you guys! Oh, to visit New York... it's a long way from Texas, but if I ever get anywhere close, I'm there! Everything looks SO wonderful! I have the book as well, and love everything in it.

Thanks for sharing.

Carolg: Carmella already has a post of the Samosas ! check out her site:

and the Ravioli is in the Raw Food Real World book p. 193-5 called Porcini Ravioli but in notes you can use Chanterelles, Shitakis etc.

the Sauce over the Ravioli is a little different, but, parsley, pistachio oil? this should be fun to experiment with. I'm going for the ingredients and play with this Sunday, my hubby wants to play RAW he thinks he can impove RAW with a SAD touch/taste! I laughed ! Joz

It's a marvelous place! A little easier on the budget is "pure juice and takeaway" around the corner on 17th street. They'll make you green juices, appetizers salads, and takeout ice-cream by the half-pint or pint. (vanilla mint chip OMG). make sure you try a mallomar also!

I love the desserts and juices at Pure Takeaway, but, both "meal" type dishes I got (pizza and a full salad) weren't so hot for the price.
