Since becoming raw I've started to enjoy foods that I never would have, if still cooked.

But it seems like, no matter how hard I try, broccoli & I will just NEVER get along. LoL. :p

I love it all!!! Except turnips. O_O Can't stand them cooked, and I'm not a fan raw! But everything else, I LOVE! Oh, wait... Except this one leafy green... I'm not sure what it is called, but they've mixed it with a certain brand of organic greens. UGH! Tastes like hate! (oh dear my hippy side is starting to show...)

I love stuff made with tomato, but I have never like a plain raw tomato in whole, sliced or chopped form for some reason. Salsa is fine. I know, weird. I can't explain it, but it's true. I have to have something with the raw tomato to make it edible for some reason.

Tomato right off the vine from a good organic garden might change your mind ! I know if it has been sitting for more than a day after its ripe a tomato's taste starts to change.

Probably is the same one I can't stand. I always pick it out and toss it away. Sometimes I feel it takes up 1/3 of the bag! It looks kinda spiky and part of it is white. Real bitter tasting.

I don't really LIKE broccoli. I can eat a piece or two from a veggie tray and it doesn't gag me the way cooked broccoli does. But I won't go out of my way for it.

Hmm, let's see:

eggplant for sure!
turnips
fennel
mushrooms
bananas
and that weird unknown lettuce

who knows, this list may change. Just a month ago I would have added mangos, but now I love them.

First I'll start by saying I never liked cooked veggies... couldn't stand the texture and the bland tastes... YUK

As for something I don't like... mushrooms... can't stand them. After going raw I thought my tastes may have changed so I made Alissa's stuffed mushrooms (gave most to my husband, he liked them) and I also made some mushroom burgers, which ended up in the trash.... nope.... tastes have not changed that much LOL

I am also not a fan of bitter greens. I can take them in my salad mix but not by themselves.

ya i think they are just fillers to save money because, i agree, they taste like hate. i also just cant do mushrooms (yet, hopefully), and broccoli sprouts taste like mushrooms so i cant stand those either, even though they are a superfood. sometimes i juice them to get the nutrients but mask the flavor.

Crazy Healer Lady - Let that hippie side show! Nothing wrong with that!:D I like the thing I think ya'll are talking about. But there is one in some of them or if someone in a restaurant or cafe mixes raw herb salad with the spring mix, there is one that is hot like pepper and bitter. I don't care for that one.

YES! That wierd lettuce/green. I won't buy any mixed greens with that in it.

I know for me that the arugula in the mixed baby greens is so very bitter and I just don't like it at all. Maybe this is what some people are thinking of? It even makes me sick to my tummy if I eat it!

There are a lot of veggies that I've always enjoyed steamed that are only "okay" raw like cauliflower and broccoli. I still eat small amounts of them in salads though.

Mushrooms - no matter how they're marinated or stuffed or processed into a "meat" patty or loaf - just can't stomach them!

Cilantro - I thought I wasn't a "true" raw fooder 'cause so many raw foodies seem to love this stuff so much but I can't stand it. I even tried to blend it into a green smoothie and it just ruined the whole smoothie for me. So, can't do cilantro either.

Extrememly bitter greens like dandelion - I just don't like really bitter tastes and again, tried blending into a smoothie and NOPE...couldn't tolerate it.

Young Thai coconuts - I "may" be able to get them in if blended into something...but the coconut itself, the water from it...can't stand it! I tried using the water in a smoothie once and again, HATED it!

I can't take cilantro either. Too strong or something.

anything made with raw chick peas

flax that hasn't been finely ground - and I prefer the golden, I've learned

kelp and I aren't good friends. and even though I love seafood and it was hard to give it up - sushi being a staple for me, pre-raw, I can't STAND the fishy taste/odor that dulse flakes give recipes. So I omit them. Anyone want the full thing of flakes I have?? LOL

I don't dig raw breads. I dunno - the texture just doesn't do it for me.

I just cannot learn to like avacados. I have tried and tried. Even when it is mixed in with something. I wish i could like them as their r a lot of recipes that use them. Garlic also. Loved them but now they taste bitter to me. I dont know about mushrooms yet. I liked them fried and cooked but was never a fan of them raw. Maybe if I tried some of the more exotics one i would like them better.

I cannot stand ...

Watercress
Radicchio -- the reddish, purplish thing in the salad mix. Blech.
Dried figs
Over-ripe pears
Dried apricots
Beets

... in that order.

Olives. Occasionally if heavily disguised in a recipe, it might be okay.

There are many others I won't eat by themselves, but taste great in a recipe or marinated.

I must admit, there are LOTS of things I haven't tried YET...but so far I don't really care for:
that mystery lettuce that's white and "spikey"
plain tomatoes...even though I like them in salsa, guacamole, or a recipe..I don't like the seeds and slimey part.
The big papaya...the one I tried tasted YUCK:p

On the other hand...things I used to NOT like...but now LOVE:
CAULIFLOWER
WATERMELON
CANTELOPE
AVOCADO
Salad without dressing...just a squeeze of lime!
Great thread!!

Dreamrawalwz- i really want to try a durian..what is it that you don't like about it?

OH how I love cantelope! But I agree about papaya...I just can't get around that "musky" flavor. Funny, I've always loved the "artificial" papaya stuff like the papaya enymes or this juice my mom used to buy when I was younger...but REAL papaya? BLECH!

And looking upon some of the other items listed, I also do not like radishes, jicama, turnips, and probably some other stuff.

Haha well, where do I start? To me it smells like a dirty gym sock. The inside kind of grosses me out. The one I bought had a nutty flavor AT FIRST then that went away and left me with a funky texture and nasty taste in my mouth for HOURS. I tried a bite of another one at a raw potluck and nope, still hate it. I've heard they're a love or hate relationship lol.

I like most of the salad greens but some of them in smoothies are TERRIBLE. My worst experiment was arugula in a berry smoothie. Ewww. I also don't like raw tomatoes but like salsa and pico de gallo... sp?

I can't stand Cauliflower (or broccoli). I just made "mashed potatoes." They weren't too bad in the beginning. I added a lot of cashews to mask the taste of the cauliflower. I had indigestion the whole night and next day, always burping up cauliflower, and passed wind with the horrible aroma of cauliflower all day. No more cauliflower for me.

I like this thread. Made me laugh. I don't like papaya. I even retried it in Hawaii thinking it would be better and it wasn't. I hate broccoli...but I am pondering trying it heated up in the dehydrator with rich cheddar cheese sauce on it. I used to eat it cooked with cheese on top back in the day. And zucchini I find ick too.

I love love love cilantro. I always have it on hand. I could make a whole cilantro salad I love it some much.

I've always despised green bell peppers.....ewwww...the smell, the taste is just down right disgusting...always got the gag reflex even when trying to juice it with something else to cover it.

Romaine is just very hard in taste....any lettuce with a huge rib in the middle has a "harder" and "stronger" taste to it to me...i don't like it.

Mushrooms...i've always been afraid of them  "Fungoid" concept. Even cooked i can't stand them. But now i'm very curious to give them a try specially for the "faux heatas". I just recently dared myself to touch one while at the HFS...it made me jump when i touched it...:o

Beckla your dislike of cilantro is likely genetic. About 1 in 600 people have a gene which makes cilantro seem very distasteful, almost like soap or something offensive.

onelife2live, I share your dislike of green peppers. In fact, green peppers are UNRIPE versions of yellow or red peppers or other colored peppers. That is why they are difficult to digest as they are immature and not ready yet.

I think the green you're talking about is the Frisee lettuce, it is part of the endive family. Mizuna is also spikey and strong tasting and in those commercial organic salad mixes.

DURIAN (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Durian)!

I mean really, the physical appearance alone should be a big warning sign...DO NOT EAT ME!

http://www.greentales.com/files/durian.jpg

If you do manage to get past the hard, spiky exterior, prepare yourself for a flavor that is best described as "eating garlic ice cream over a open sewer"

Next worst is fennel. Black licorice is bad enough. Why would anyone want to eat a vegetable that tastes just like it?

And for you beet haters...I hated raw beets too, UNTIL I had one that was put through a saladacco (raw pasta machine). Believe me, throw a few of these light crispy beet coils into a salad of leafy greens, and you will LOVE, LOVE, LOVE beets!

I promise!

None for me! I dig it all, have for most of my life. I HAD to eat all the raw veggies on my plate as a kid, grew to love it all!

Tinystrawberry,

I like your suggestion of trying things at least three times before giving up on it. A couple hate at first bite that are now favs include cilantro and jicima.
Couple that I could eat if hard pressed would be arugula and watercress. Okra is about the only one I can think of that hasn't grown on me in any way.

Cilantro - Hated the smell/taste of it all my life, makes me gag

Avocado - Euww. Unsuccessfully used in my "green drink" in place of a banana. :p

Garlic/Onions - Onions are okay cooked (and covered by pasta sauce), but I guess cooking the onion defeats the purpose of eating it at all.

Grapefruit - I really try to make myself like it, but I can't.

I haven't tried durian or papaya yet, but something tells me I won't like it.

I have to admit, I am feeling the same way about cilantro! I tried it for the first time in one of my salads this week, and the flavor of it just didn't jive well with my taste buds! I have had it once since Sunday, just to see if 'maybe' the taste would sit better with me. It didn't.
