I have been considering becoming a Raw Vegan for a few months now. Right now I have been vegan for almost 4 months. I have not dropped any weight despite this. I have been feeling like cr*p for years and finally went to the doctor. Well, with all of my symptoms and tests ran, I have been diagnosed as being insulin resistant and having PCOS. Many people with these conditions eat a low carb high protein/fat diet because the sugars are just poison to our bodies. I was just wondering if anyone here has any experience with these conditions and has eating raw helped??

Thanks!

Michelle

lafsalot- Thanks for the links! I am going to check them out.

eatyourbroccoli- I have not had my cycle for 2 years (9 mos. I was preggo). My testosterone level is elevated. All of my other hormones are ok, like my LH and LSH. It is hard to tell though since I have not had a cycle. Plus, I have tons of other symptoms. I had gestational diabetes when I was pregnant. I have gained 45 pounds in 5 months. Three of those months I had been vegan. It is like everything I eat turns into fat and very rapidly. It is so frustrating!

Insulin resistance. I have it as well as type 2 diabetes. But I also have assorted other medical maladies so for me the low carb type of diet doesn't work.

I was told to eat lowcarb for my PCOS and it didn't help much at all. I lost weight the first year I did it, but after about 3 years I was SICK, SICK, SICK, and ended up with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome & Fibromyalgia. Raw cured it ALL for me!

The only thing I can tell you is that fruit doesn't effect me poorly when eating a raw diet. Everyone is different though, I would suggest just taking the plunge and eating raw for a month to see how your body reacts! :)

Rawmommie--Thanks! I just saw your profile and see that you homeschool. I homeschool my daughter. She is 6. How about you??
Can you tell me what you eat on a particular day??

I homeschool all 3 of my children: My daughter is 6 and my sons are 11 & 12! :)

Typical day:

tea w/ lemon
banana or two for breakfast
salad for lunch (tons of greens, peppers, tomatoes, broccoli, lemon juice or apple cider vinegar, a little olive oil, spices)
smoothie or another salad for dinner

I grab fruit a few times during the day if I'm hungry and depending on the time of year. I eat more salad in the winter, more fruit in the summer. I eat very little nuts (only as treats) b/c I don't respond well to them.

I also wanted to report, although this may not be the thread, that I have lost 21 pounds since the beginning of the year! This is a big deal for me as I've been raw for 2 1/2 years and have stayed overweight. I believe my body was healing a ton of other things first and the weight has finally started coming off!

Rawmommie-

That is great about the 21lbs!! I think my body is going to have alot to heal from, too:( I am not a huge nut fan either. Your day looks very doable. I just bought all of my fresh produce, ground flax seeds and I will add some sea veggies(not raw, I don't think, but freeze dried).
