I go to a meeting this morning and bring my morning snack...a ziploc container full of chopped pear.

we're still waiting for people to come in and someone asks me what im eating.
they thought it was onion!!! LOL!
"no, its a pear. i wont eat my fruit sometimes if its not cut up"

and then there was this big discussion.... "oh that's healthy" "i dont eat a lot of fruit" ... blah blah blah....

then i realized i couldnt eat my fruit in pieces!! .. oops PEACE! :p

so i sit there one bite after the other trying to enjoy my d'anjou pear while my coworkers talked about fruit and how they dont eat enough.

everyone where i work is overweight and totally addicted to non-foods. now my eyes are really opening up to how we have become and how we are such a "Frankenfood Focused Nation"

Um, where do you work? Down the hall from me??? LOL!
I get that all the time. Our "copy room" always has SAD/CRAP in there. Cakes, pies, cookies, candy, pretzels, chips, junk, junk, junk. ALL THE TIME
I have a fruit basket and you would not believe how many folks will say, (if I have plums or pears in there), will say, "I've never had one of them outside of a can..."
YIKES!!!
I give up. They aren't gonna change. I can't instill upon folks enough how healthy and healing eating raw is...so it's a shame, but it's their choice! I can't heal the world. That's where I give credit to Alissa...

Hello!

That is sad and funny at the same time that they thought you were eating a onion. People at work are always checking out what I eat. Today I brought in a green smoothie and they thought I was a freak.

The hardest part of eating Raw is not being around so much Sad food but to keep my mouth shut and not argue about my healthy way of eating. It makes me sad to see my loved ones eating the way they do and then to keep my mouth shut when they complain of food bothering them, having achy joints and such and I could go on and on. Knowing that i have friends and such who have cancer and other diseases that they could maybe cure but if not cure at least feel a whole lot better but they don't want to hear it so I don't say anything.

I will just do what I did when I started going back to church. I kept my mouth shut but was always at church for the services and other things I joined. It only took a short while before the grandkids went with me and then son decided to go and then DIL decided she did not want to be home alone so now they all go so maybe they will all eventually change to Raw. :D

That's sad. I used to hate the catered luncheons I had to attend when I was working at one particular place. For a while they were good. They varied the places where they got the food from. If it was the nearby sandwich place there was always salad and fruit. Sometimes there was fruit if it was from a pizza place.

The problem was, the person ordering the food had a tendency to order waaay too much, most likely "accidentally on purpose" so she could take some home with her later. So the decision was made to have a standing order at one pizza place in particular for pizza only, two slices per person. No salad. Ever.

We did have a cafeteria there that had a salad bar, but it was too far from the meeting room to get there, get food and get back. I did have a locker downstairs though in the break room where I could stash food and there was also a refrigerator. So I'd just pack a salad or some vegetables that I could eat quickly. I'd then excuse myself to use the bathroom then run in there and eat my food. I didn't mind doing that, but it was a wee bit annoying that the others were getting free food and I wasn't.

Some of my coworkers told me they wished they could do what I was doing but they felt weird about doing it. Like it was rude or something. I just shrugged. Eventually they wound up doing exactly what I was doing after having been served one too many pizzas.

I must say the people in my dept. were really into health food though. Yes, we had occasional sweets and junky foods that were brought in, but then one day someone said she wished we wouldn't have those things left around the office. So we all came to the agreement that the only communal food that would be left out was healthy food. I made a huge container of trail mix for everyone to share and we'd take turns bringing in fruit or vegetable platters to snack on.

Actually that reminds me of another story. Same workplace. I went into the breakroom one day and there was a guy sitting there eating some triangles of something yellowish/orange out of a bag. I thought at first it was cheese but it didn't quite look like cheese. So I asked him what it was. He gave me a strange look and said, "It's canteloupe! Haven't you ever seen it before?" Well, I felt stupid then. Of course I knew what it looked like but this was the first time I'd ever seen someone eating it out of a plastic bag with their fingers like he was. Had he been eating it with a fork, I most likely would have recognized it. After that, he'd make a big deal of whatever food he was eating, waving a piece before my face and announcing, "It's an apple!", or whatever it was. Too funny.

Sounds like the people I work with too. When they bring in food to share it is always bagels, donuts, cake, some sort of banana or zucchini bread, and various other junk. Since I have switched to being raw vegan I just try and keep quiet about it. I don't want to cause any ripples. I just hope that eating healthy sets a good example for other people, and try really, really hard not to preach about anything. It just makes them shut down it seems and is counter-productive. It is difficult not to try and say stuff though. and I've only been doing this for a month!!!!

This happened to me today at my daughters play group. The leader announced 'oh so healthy!' when I opened my food box to reveal and massive salad full of tommys and olives etc...then everyone else peered into my box to have a look. I felt really self-conscious eating it after that. Everyone else was eating Fridays waffels topped with jam and squirty cream

I tried to feed my baby her banana but she threw it on the floor and grabbed some noddles from someones place, y'know those horrible, cheap packet things that you pour powder over in the water. She loved them and so she ate some from this girls plate. That's babies for you! But how furstrating for mummy ha ha ha!

Oh yes! I get this all the time. I love the, "What the hell are you drinking?" reaction. When I have my green smoothie complete with the colorful spirulina and I tell folks, they make this disgusting face and walk away. I could yell after them, "Oh - how's that dead carcass you where chewin' on at lunch?" but I don't. I'm a good girl! Or I try to be! ;)

I was thinking about this thread and remembered a post my wife made on a different forum a while ago, it's funny, I wanted to share it with you here ;)

" people who have allergies are quite accepted. Some people have nut, egg, milk, everything allergies and no-one questions that. If I said I was allergic to cooked food I wonder if the response would be different. What if I said I was ‘Cooked Food Intolerant’ instead of proudly declaring “I am a Raw Vegan!”

I went to a presentation last week and they had munchies set out along with soft drinks, coffee, etc. so I was glad I had my water. The munchies consisted of donuts, bagles, muffins...bread, bread, bread, which makes me tired. I ended up snagging the garnishes which were strawberries. A couple guys after me copied me so there were plenty of pastries left but absolutely no fruit.

When the email came in asking for a critique one of the questions asked about the food so I responded they need to order a more healthy selection.

Yeah Lucy,,
People ask and when you answer they dont want to know if they dont like the answer! classic case of denial and putting on the blinders.
toxic food=toxic bodies=toxic minds

dont ask if you dont want to know!!!!!!! that just flames me...

People will unknowingly sabotage your efforts to have a better life. whether its about weight or not i have discovered.

it is based on fear. fear that you will obtain something they want but dont want to put in the work and discipline.
raw food diet, as with any diet takes discipline and focus in the initial transition. they dont want their lack of discipline waved in their faces.
denial.

I was actually taught that it was rude to be a picky eater, especially when you’ve been offered food by someone outside the family, for example if you’re a guest at someone’s house. I think this is a very common notion. Even if it’s not a question of manners, when you decline to eat certain foods such as meat, dairy, wheat, or all cooked foods because you’ve determined they are not optimal for health, a person who eats those foods is likely to feel you are judging their choices which can make them feel defensive.

Ditto - do you work down the hall from me??

They fill this container with candy every day. Someone went to Costco and bought the biggest bag of candy I've ever seen in my life... it's in the storage room and they use it to re-fill this big bowl every single day. It's mind blowing to me.

I had a similiar experience, Wednesday. I made some candy (date) balls and I gave this guy one and he says those are really good. My dad speaks up and saids, those are raw too and proceeds to tell the man that I only eat raw food. The man looks at me and saids: "you eat raw meat". I kindly replied: "no, I eat fresh fruits, vegetable, nuts, seeds, & grains". LOL

yeah I was at a couples house a couple weeks ago and it was a business related meeting. They are of a different culture. She didn't ask if I wanted anything she just served us coke and cookies. I felt very awkward. Me and the lady didn't even speak the same language and I didn't want to insult her. I took tiny tiny sips of the coke, which all together didn't add up to a sip and took 1 small cookie and broke it up in pieces and ate it very slowly. I think I got away with not insulting anyone and still not offending my lifestyle in any extreme way.
