Hello from Canada - I have been on raw foods for 2 weeks and was feeling great until a bad cough set in on the weekend, however, will continue on.
I have lost 6 lbs which is good. My real reason for going raw is to feel better.
I was at a raw food pot luck dinner 2 weeks ago which was the day I started. The food was so great it encouraged me to continue.
The hardest part is negativity from others, telling me I am sick because I'm not eating properly, etc etc. Has everyone had to deal with that? I am simply telling people it is my choice to do this. I have 3 sisters with cancer and I believe that going raw will give my body the best health possible.
I am enjoying reading these forums - thank you

Hi Gwennie! I'm from Toronto too! I missed the last potluck at Kensington due to unforeseen circumstances and this months is canceled due to the Total Health Show. Let me know if I can help you at all, plus I may need some help eating all my creations! http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=25630

Welcome from a fellow newbie raw enthusiast! If your detox is anything like mine was, one day you are going to wake up feeling better than you ever have.

Hi Gwennie. I'm from Newfoundland and just started a few days ago. I feel great but the hardest part is other folks not understanding you eating this way. They think you're just on a diet instead of eating healthier. I just found this website a few days ago and I'm sure I'm going to love it here even though raw foods are so new to our family. But the incidence of cancer in our family is outrageous and I hope to give my body the best chance to stop it right here.

I have to agree!! People are so stupid and negative and pushy! nice to know there is someone else in my own front yard going through the same thing!

thank you all for your welcome messages - yes it is difficult getting comments from so many outsiders and negative at that - however I am now part way into my third week and other than this darn cough/cold I love the way I am eating. I am hoping this is partly de-tox.
It sure helps to be able to check in here and read how others are doing.
good health to all of us and for those of us with cancer in our families I think we are doing the best we can for our bodies
It is an interesting journey for sure :)

OK WEIRD! I grew up in Oakville, at Bronte and Speers! What schools did you two go to? I went to QE Park from 90-93, then Sheridan.

I actually have a son living in Cambridge. Sure wish he'd try the raw way as he has lots of health problems and has too much weight on. I look forward to meeting many of you in the days ahead and I feel its going to be a great journey. I took lunch to the Cancer support group tonight -a lovely tray of as many different raw veggies as I could along with the chick pea dip and an Olive dip. They loved it.

Sorry Damzlfy but I didn't grow up or go to school in Oakville - I worked at the Cantel Service Centre on Speers back in the late 80's
great area there!
as to Pianolady which part of Cambridge is your son living? - I was born & raised in Preston part - still live there.
it is very hard when you see family with health problems when you can't get them to see the benefits but I am hoping that when my sisters see how healthy I get they will at least be more open minded.
I should refer this to the health section maybe but it will be 3 weeks tomorrow since I went raw and for the last week can't quit coughing - is this partly detox?

It's Hewat Street, Gwennie. I only know it as Cambridge but at one time he lived in both Galt and Preston, but has lived on Hewat for 13 years now. It's a lovely place and we found some lovely trails there. I wish I knew more about the detox part of raw but I'm just learning and am only a couple of weeks into this. So far I'm doing wonderfully but for supper I had baked eggplant with cheese-my favorite-but the rest of the meal was raw so I'm not going to be picky on myself since that's the first thing I've had since starting raw foods.I will learn as time goes on to be more prepared when I come home starving. I think the hardest part will be travelling this summer so I have to plan what to do there. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears. I know I said it already but I'm really enjoying reading all the posts here and feel it's a great group.

DITTO to your comments about this being a great forum. Good luck with continuing the raw food lifestyle. Since I am only 3 weeks into it I am not sure either about the travel living. Hope to hear some input.
As for Hewat Street I know it quite well - It is off Eagle St and I live on Eagle St, small world isn't it?

Not sure about the travel thing either and we are doing a trip to Denver this summer with friends so that should be interesting.

Yes, it is a small world. My son works at B & W. Do you know it? My daughter and I are supporting each other through our transition to raw but she is leaving for a resort in Ontario in 2 weeks, so we shall be on our own for 6 months. I think we'll do okay as we feel lbs-oh dear, I forgot it's Kgs isn't it-better already, without all the bread and pasta we were so fond of. It's amazing how quickly your taste changes. Morn, I was looking for your update. I have been looking at some of the recipes here also. I've printed off quite a few to try so lots to look forward to. Good luck everyone.

Here's to your health! and your husband!
Sunshine here today so it is another beautiful day & great weekend.

Raw lifestyle going great, Gwennie. I only wish I knew more recipes but I know that will come as I get more into this. I saw a lovely Onion bread recipe on this site today but it needs a dehydrator and I don't have one yet. I saw one at WalMart the other day but it didn't have a thermostat so I didn't buy it. I have to go to the city next weekend to take my daughter to the airport, so I'll check then to see if I can get one. So far I'm doing well without breads which I thought I'd really crave, but I know a dehydrator will give me more food choices. I had to return my VitaMix today by FedEx becasue it would only start on High. Hopefully it will be back very shortly as I miss it already. I had to make a trip to the summer cottage and pick up the blender there. Not bad but not a VitaMix.Glad you have sunshine. It's cloudy here and cold. BRRR!!

I have just ordered a dehydrator - I am excited and can't wait as I have seen so many receipes I want to try. I can not get this in Canada so I had to order one.
Are these really easy to use? I have just passed my 4 weeks at about 90% raw!!
