Hello all,
Is anyone here from NZ? I'm interested in possibly moving to North New Zealand and am wondering about the availability and quality of the fruit there, particularly tropical fruit.
Thanks so much!
All the best,
Audrey

I lived in the south island, so I'm not sure about the north. But there's a really good supply a fruit. Kiwi's (nickname for new zealanders, not the fruit) are such healthy active people. The best farmers markets I've been to were in NZ. And I see apples that were imported from NZ in the states all the time. Now what killed me was the lack of kale. It wasn't in any grocery store I went to and I could only get it at a weekly farmers market. Don't worry about fruit.
p.s. I hope you move there, it's the most beautiful country in the world.:D

Hi Chilove,
I live in the north island and here is some of the fruit trees I have growing in my garden:
red guava, yellow guava, peachcot, sapote, cherimoya, blueberries, raspberries, avocado, kiwi, feijoa, nectarine, figs, tamarillo, lemon, persimmon,
and of course you can grow the usual: apples, pears, oranges
and kale is getting more and more popular. at the healthfood store we sell 3 different kinds of kale. YUM!
I even know a guy who grows mangos although his trees are in a glasshouse;)

Hello :) I'm from Auckland which is the North Island of NZ. I have a natural foods supermarket near me called Huckelberry Farms which is where I buy most of my organic produce. There are a lot of little organic stores and farmers markets cropping up lately though I've noticed. Is there any particular fruit you may die without so someone can tell you if it's common here:p

Hi Alicia,
thank you for your compliment. I'm actually in the process of printing out lots of pictures of the raw food dishes we've made just to be able to look at them and get reinspired i.e " yum, that was nice, let's do it again":)
I actually work at HF. Since having my daughter I work there part time.We probably "met" each other without knowing it ;)
Did you know that Sergei Boutenko is going to give a talk on 27 November in Auckland?

o wow that's so funny, small world! I'm obsessed with HF I'm constantly popping in buying fruit and veges I seriously wonder if people give me sideways glances at times, it's my love affair with green smoothies that causes my regular visits!:p Yes I did know, I'm on your mailing list. I think I replied to your Raw Food Events thread, I am hoping to catch the Tauranga one because I am busy for the Auckland one :)
