Aloha everyone! I have a quick question. After eating - I often will experience a hot flash ... well - it's more like a gentle flush feeling - not at all uncomfortable like an actual "hot flash". It only lasts a moment and then it's gone. I've tried to see if there is some kind of pattern - like maybe it happens after I eat something specific...
I noticed it after I ate some raw Cacao, it happened after I had a few Goji berries, I felt it when I had a salad with avocado (dressing was braggs and apple cider vinegar), I had it when I ate Alissa's fettucini recipe... This morning I felt it after I ate a pear!
is this normal - or am I combining foods wrong? Or maybe my body is waking up after a long SAD diet??

Hey starfire - I think you answered your own question. Your body is experiencing whole, healthy, living food.
Are you detoxing that you've noticed?
Maybe it's gonna be like Mt. St. Helen's and be an eruption! LOOK OUT!

Yep - I do have some minimal detox symptoms - mostly a mild headache now and again. Although - the headaches have subsided. I also went through a couple of days where I was real sleepy. Thanks for responding!:D

I have been about 95% raw for the last couple of weeks or so. I also started having hot flashes after eating as well. I have pretty much narrowed it down to flashing after eating a fruit smoothie. I usually have banana, oranges, strawberries in my smoothie. I was wondering if I was having a reaction to one of the fruits. It doesn't last long but brings back memories of when I was eating SAD & was menopausal.
I was thinking the other day that I should post the question on this forum and see if anyone else was experiencing the same thing. Interesting!!
It is a normal part of the immune system to raise the body temp when there is anything introduced that it percieves should not be there. This happens everytime cooked food is eaten. Until fairly recently, maybe a few decades ago, scientists thought it was a normal reaction to eating. Then by accident someone ate raw while being tested and this did not happen. Then they found that raw foods do not trigger this. Both this and the release of lukocytes when eating cooked foods are immune system related. Leslie Kenton wrote about this in her book Raw Energy. It is a very interesting book and has lots of scientific info. It seems to be out of print but she has another book "The New Raw Energy". Hopefully it is even better.
Maybe you are adding things that may not be truely raw? Or maybe not organic?

Hey Doe... nope - that's so strange. I'm eating 100% raw organic. Unless the health food store is selling veggies and fruit that is borderline somehow  The cacao nibs I ate were from David Wolfe's website - and I had a hot flash after ingesting those. Again - they don't last long - just a couple of seconds -- and it's a flush feeling - then it's gone. It's not uncomfortable - just odd.

Good discussion, as I used to get these types of hot flashes before I went raw, when I was having an allergic reaction to a food that I had eaten. Since going raw, I have not noticed any reaction to any food - even those that caused problems before.
