I just got nut milk bags for the first time and have been making nut and seed milks. I really like it, but it gets so messy trying to squeeze all the liquid out. Does anyone have a better suggestions for getting that job done other and just squeezing it by hand. One that might be a bit less messy.

well, you can get a nut milk maker, but you'd have to be able to spend a lot of money (mine was $150, but I got it as a Christmas gift from my parents). There's no mess at all - we don't even need to wash it (we just wash the mesh container) more than once every couple of weeks, and it only takes about 10 minutes (+ soaking time, about 4 hours) to make. If you can afford it, I'd recommend buying one. We have the Soyabella and really like it. As far as I know, that's the only not by hand and non-messy way to make nut milk (french press doesn't work... I tried :) )

I run the nut milk through a collander with medium size holes. It gets most of the pulp that way and I really don't have to do anything.

If I want nut milk with no pulp, I run it through a fine mesh strainer. I do have to use a ladel to help the flow through though and it takes a bit of time but it is WAY LESS messy than the bag method.

Since I have so many appliances as it is, I have to pass on the nut milk maker. It sounds like a great machine and highly convenient but it only does one thing.

I just use a colander lined with cheesecloth, placed over a large bowl or the strainer that came with my juicer. It does not seem too messy for me, certainly not $150.00 worth..lol..;)

Those nut milk makers do sound nice though, especilly if you have kids drinking a lot of the milks... :)

I don't drink/make that much nut milk, and I think it's because it's soo messy. I would love to order one from maraw! Right now finances are on hold due to DH's company may be striking in May. :( No worries.

Yes, I know what you mean. If I'm going to get electric appliances, I like to get ones that can do more than one thing. I'm not RAW, I eat raw, but not solely, and the Soyabella makes lentil and split pea soups and such, so it does more than one thing for me, but it wouldn't if I didn't eat cooked soup. Downside... bummer. I've heard it can grind nuts and spices, but I'm afraid to try lest I kill it.

Yeah, Elizabeth, you're totally right. Is the mess worth $100 or so to you? Since we got ours "free" (for us) it's been great, but I don't know if we'd buy it ourselves... Well, we were buying soymilk before that, and it's so expensive and I didn't want to be drinking soy all the time like that, so this has ended up paying for itself. And we're students, so it's nice to have that convenience. But yeah, it all depends on how much you have to spend and how much you dislike the mess.
