Is it possible to have too many greens? If it is still green when it leaves your body does it mean that you have had too much or does it mean that your body has digestive problems and cannot make use of what you have ingested?

I've had the same thing, and was thinking it was poor digestion.

No it's fine. " They" say to rotate the greens so you are getting a wide spectrum of nutrients, etc etc. So eat up!

I don't think if you have green doodie that it means it isn't being digested. Just like, if you eat lots of beets you are pretty guaranteed to have some red coming out, ya know?

What color is doodie supposed to be, anyway? Now if it is coming out in big chunks you may want to chew more : ).... Or blend more or whatever....

But honestly, I wouldn't worry about it, and I CERTAINLY wouldn't stop!!!!! : )

lol. you said doodie!

I was just thinking today how everything in my life has become green!!! In the mornings I make a big green smoothie and my sink is all full of green water and I eat salads for lunch so I've got a bowl left over from yesterday with some green in it and then I'm doing wheatgrass powder in my smoothies...

I'm gonna turn green! but i love it! haha. and yes, I have green doodie.:p

I am so glad that I read this thread! Not only did it make me laugh for use of the word doodie, but it made me feel better to know that I am not the only one who has green coming out after going in. Whew.

ive read if its comin out green the other end that you arent assimilating the nutrients for whatever reason. usually because of low hydrochloric (stomach) acid.

keep eating. greens raise stomach acid.

yep it's the low stomach acid...read "green for life" it explains it well.

also I just wanted to say doodie too.

wow.. so is there anything else I can do besides eating more greens (which I'm already doing) to increase my stomach acid?

and why would I want high stomach acid anyway?

luckitri
04-12-2007, 02:06 PM
High stomach acid helps you get your nutrients.

Excessive hunger can be the body's scream for nutrients that it is not getting. Excessive hunger due to malnutrition can lead to excessive weight gain in countries like the U.S.

Hey guys! I have read that when it is green, it means that your food is passing through your system very quickly, you are healthy! (but you don't want it to always be so fast so you can retain some nutrients)

but the darker it gets, that means the longer is has been in your system, black is the worse, alot of heavy meat eaters may see black poo

Hey Starfire! We talk about it alot! I do remember that it was once used as a diagnostic tool by doctors. Now if they use it they send it to a lab. The knowledge is almost lost. Now a long time ago someone put a link to a site that discusses all color and texture and size of DOODIES and helps you know what it means. I wish I knew where it was.

Similar to reading that in poor countries they might just as well use ants to see if your urine is sugary - to obtain diabetes diagnosis. Use common sense with what nature gave you and use lab if you are lost. Maybe that would make medical care more affordable?

puffysmom

teehee. Doodie is a funny word but this thread is also funny. The thing is now when i see how my doodie looks I know what a doctor said years ago about how doodie is suppose to float to be healthy. I guess I am eating right. :D Still working on the healthy part but the day will come.

Back to the reference about cows:
When they are grazing on fresh green grasses, they put out green. When they are fed concentrated foods like the grain mixes and dried hay or silage in the winter, their manure is darker and harder. Remember, they are only fed on that from necessity since there IS no green then. That should tell us something right there. The fresher-the better for our food -and theirs- and then you can expect the 'manure' to be green. If we eat too much dried and concentrated food, water is taken from our systems in order to hydrate the food enough for disgestion. Our bowel movements can then become harder to expel, and darker, indicating that they take much longer to make their way through the digestive system. Either that or we would have to make sure we drank enough to compensate for less moisture in those foods. Of course then we would be diluting our digestive juices..... and on and on. Not good, as all of us know. Everything is so linked! So if we are eating enough fresh greens etc., we should be have much looser, much more frequent and green-looking movements. In fact, maybe we should actually be worried if it isn't green. That might be the indicator if we are getting enough greens. (Hmmmm...eat green until it comes out green....) I think it could be a very good thing. Poor cows-they don't have any choice in the winter, but we do! YAY

(Can't get myself to use the other word - what a prude, eh? - I did laugh, though. WHY do we laugh over such things?????)

There is a popular programme in the UK called "You are what you eat" hosted by a "holistic nutritionist" called Gillian McKeith. She extols the virtues of examining your doodies(:D ) and says that it must be conker coloured, sausage shaped in order to be what she calls a "healthy Poo".

Hmmm, I think the jury would be out on that one!

what is "conker coloured"?

I love this thread and I love talking about poo! Seriously, I find it so interesting and actually kind of liberating to talk about it. Hooray for doodie!

I know what you mean. Until I started to watch that show I thought YUCK until I learned it tells a lot about whats happening in your body.

Conker colour....She meant sort of chestnut brown coloured. But I don't think that is really healthy!

Um, yes.... I almost laughed out loud while sitting at work! Don't DO that to me!

I obviously haven't read this in a while.

Interesting that as one continues to consume the greens and their body adjusts, that the green coloring on our doodie fades a bit!

I did NOT know that word would strike a funny bone with so many people. Funny!

Only if it's loose and watery or like diarrhea is it bad. Greens are green; so the indigestible fiber is going to come out green. It's supposed to. If it comes out like it should, somewhat solid (but not hard, obviously) and in lengthy segments, then it is a sign of health and proper digestion. The more greens you consume, the greener it will be.
You will know when passing unhealthful bowel movements; it's fairly obvious. Similarly, as when one passes food and sees pieces, of food intact, that would be a sign of poor digestion (ex: whole flax seeds).

Best,

Best,

I was wondering about the whole flax seeds. Don't they pretty much always come through whole if they haven't been chewed? Does anyone KNOW that they don't have any unchewed whole ones coming through? I mean, is your digestion so good that it takes care of the whole ones? Just interested.

...But while we are on the topic, I have to say that the more of greens that I consume, the more rolling around there is in my innards. Not too pleasant. Also gas....:o

luckitri
04-20-2007, 06:28 PM
Tirza, I have been having the same rolling, noise, gas.

I know sesame seeds need to be ground to get absorbed but flax seed I have not noticed.

I had no clue I was so interested in flax! Got some yesterday and was eating it out of bag while waiting for first batch of crackers!

Years ago the brown flax was used as laxative. (Still is in that old time "Uncle Sam" cereal.) However it was hard to control. Now I do not understand why same product can be made in cracker without same effect - or just eaten plain and raw with not same effect. What is up with that? I mean if you look at the old-time products with the flax in them - it is dispersed - not concentrated like we do with the crackers.

It is my understanding that the flax seed does have to be ground up in order for you to absorb the oil from it. Perhaps that is why it isn't laxative when you make it into foods in whole seeds. I know the oil does have the laxative effect, and you can mix the ground up seeds in water and drink them, and also have a laxative effect.

luckitri

No I must disagree. Years ago I would just take a spoonful of whole seeds and chew - instant laxative. The product mentioned "Uncle Sam" cereal contains whole flax seeds and it is marketed to clear you out. I am just wondering why I can now eat all this flax all these years later and not have same physical response. What is different? Each time the seeds were whole. I have not ground the seeds.

Maybe you are digesting more of the nutrients so there is less mass left over after absorption to push out other junk. Instead of just passing right through largely undigested it mostly gets absorbed. Just a hypothesis.
