Hello all,
I have just started this process of going raw. The one thing I miss is my perfect one cup of coffee that I have had forever: thick coffee with sugar and cream. Anyone with suggestions for substitutions?
Thanks

Hi 3boy,
My favorite coffee substitute, and the one that got me off of coffee is Teeccino. You can use a french press to brew it, or a standard electric coffee pot. I always used a french press, though.
It has a Java (coffee) flavor. My favorite flavor was Vanilla Nut. They also have an amoretto I liked, a Hazelnut, and a chocolate mint (my least favorite).YOu can find out more at:
www.teeccino.com
I also tried Cafix, which was OK, but not as robust as the Teeccino. The nice thing about Cafix, though, is that it is instant, and you can take it out with you if you wanted to make it, you just have to add hot water while you were either at work, or out to eat. There are a few other instant "grain" beverage coffee substitutes, but Cafix was my favorite of the ones that I tried.
Your mileage may vary,
Best of luck in finding a healthier substitute.

If it's the wake-up factor that is a big part of it, the AM green smoothie sure helps. I LOVED coffee for many years, but my level of anxiety is so minimal by comparison these days that I'm not missing it as I expected.

EvaRB I'm with you on the Green Smoothie for the energy I need in the morning to feel good to go! And they are soo YUMMY!:p
I only suggested the other herbal/grain drinks as a transtion for those who still crave a warm drink in the morning.
Peace,

Try throwing some maca powder in your smoothies in the a.m. Or some spirulina powder. Also, once you are 100% raw and have (semi) detoxed, your energy will increase.
I too was a coffee "syrup" lover. The stronger the coffee, the better. The sweeter the coffee, the better. The more heavy whipping cream in there, the better. But I wouldn't touch that if you paid me now.
Nothing beats the energy like a cuppa raw in the morning!!!

....ahhhhhhhhhh, coffee!!!...I had a 30 year coffee habit when I went raw...into my third week I was so pleased that the only thing non raw was coffee...my food instructor, Raw Truth, explained that just that tiny bit of coffee everyday (ONE STRONG LARGE CUP) was way more then a little bit (can't remember her exact words)...but I really heard her and I knew I had had my last cup of coffee....I had a headache the next morning...and I was FREE...I didn't wanna put a substitute in there..., it's like giving up hard liquor and then using wine for a substitute...I wanted to be free of a habit...
Within a couple of days I realized I had more energy then I'd ever had...even in the afternoons when I'd sometimes get a pick-me-up coffee to get me through the afternoon...I realize it really only gives you a momentary jolt then it brings you down.
I no longer enjoy even the smell of coffee and I encourage others to try life without it...
I had real bad leg cramps about a week after giving it up..don't know if it was just a major food detox since that was about week 4 of raw or if it was the coffee...it was weird cuz it lasted about 3 days and only in the mornings when I would of normally drank coffee...oh well, that's behind me..

I recently made a drink with Brazil Nut milk, raw cacao, and frozen bananas. It tasted like a banana chocolate coffee Frappuchino. So maybe Brazil Nut milk chai? Yummm.

I went to their website & it mentioned something about wheat?
I cant have this if it has wheat in it. Is there something I misunderstood??

I feel a lovely stimulation from my morning green lemonade, rather than a green smoothie.
I sometimes do a frozen banana, nut milk shake with some coffee extract.
i loved coffee... i had a vente, soy vanilla latte almost daily. once committing to raw, i no longer crave coffee at all. it's great you're trying to supplement it- and once you do this a few times, you'll see- your coffee cravings will be history.
