WannaBraw

I have been on this board for a month now. I have known about raw foods for 8 or 9 years now. I don't know how many times I have gone raw in the past but I believe it's been greater than 5 times. In those previous times the longest I lasted on raw was 4 1/2 months. I have learned a lot from those experiences with trying to go raw.
1. I learned not to judge myself or others.
In the past when I went raw I looked down on all other foods as dead and devitalized and when I had to feed those vegetarian dead foods to my husband it was not with love, consequentially our relationship suffered for it, the food didn't taste to good either. And though at that time I was tasting the food before I served it, I didn't make it with love in my heart.
Now when I make vegan cooked foods for my family I don't taste it, but I prepare it with love and they really enjoy the food. There is no struggle, no looking down and no judgment from me.
2. Be patient with myself!
I want to feel healthy and be thin sooner rather than later. But the thing I must remember is that I put weight on over a number of years. It's not going to all melt off in a matter of weeks or months. I have to hold in my mind what I want to look and feel like, while at the same time have patience with myself and know that my body is magnificent and will heal and cleanse itself of all toxins and shed excess weight in its own time, not mine.
3. Eating Raw is the best way to eat.... For me.
I am at a time and place in my life where I am ready for change, I am shifting doing what is best for my body, mind and spirit. Raw and living foods is the best diet....for me. If others are to come to eat raw and living foods it certainly won't be from be preaching at them and beating them over the head with my raw bible (LIVING ON LIVE FOOD). While I do share my raw food with other people, and answer any questions they may have about what I do, I don't get into debates or arguments about what I eat. It is up to each individual to come to a determination about the diet that is best for them.
4. There are probably hundreds of raw food websites out there, and many different raw food programs, but Alissa's program is the most complete, comprehensive and logical program for me. I am grateful that I bought "Living on Live Food". I have stacks of raw food books, raw recipe books, and raw informational books, but her approach is what has kept me going for the last 34 days.
I am the kind of person where it's either all or nothing. I can't gradually do things. When I quit smoking years ago, I just quit. When I go raw I just go raw. I don't allow myself to have a little of cooked because I have seen it over and over it just draws me back completely into the world of cooked food and I don't like the way I felt or looked when I ate cooked. I have even eaten cooked vegan and for me the best way to eat, look and feel healthy is raw vegan.
5. Listen to my own body.
there are many, many raw food experts. But my best expert is my own body. The longer I eat raw, the easier it is for me to listen to my body, the easier it is for me to hear what my body is trying to tell me.
Last Thursday my body didn't want to take in any food and I listened. It was the easiest fast I have ever had. Not one desire to eat a morsel of food.
The body is intelligent and if we give it a chance to exercise its innate wisdom it will reward us with excellent health.
6. Remind myself of why I have gone raw and how it has helped me.
There's nothing like a little affirmation. Sometimes it may be hard. Maybe I might eventually venture out and eat out with friends and family, I am eating raw for me. For my health and for the clarity that it gives me spiritually. I will not let any momentary cravings cause me to go back into the mental and spiritual chloroform of eating cooked food.
While I am sure that there are many other things that I learned I just thought I would share these here. I also wanted to truly express my gratitude to Alissa Cohen for her fabulous book and DVD. I have read it completely and watched the DVD from beginning to end (My 6 year old loves watching your raw show as she calls it!).
Your recipes are fairly simple. Almost everything I keep on hand in my kitchen. You answer questions that reassure the newbies and those who aren't so new to this way of living. Watching you on Tyra really re-inspired me to eat this way again. It had been calling out to me but I had not the courage to make the change (again) :) But i have now for 34 days! Yippee!!
For the first time I have a secret weapon with raw: ALISSA!
And no I am not a groupie, but if you only knew of my previous struggles and now the ease with which I have gone raw you would see why I give Alissa all the props she deserves.
Bless you all on the path and may this Easter day be a resurrection of your body, mind, and soul!
Jai!
