View Full Version : SAD and Toothless
Uncle Gummy

I had my teeth removed in 1999, when I got an inheritance. (I stopped eating carrots in 1993 when my cavities became too large to protect my nerves from the pyramid-shaped chunks). The money covered the dentures, but the dentures didn't fit and the money didn't cover the lawyers. Thus, still no choppers.
I'm obviously quite poor; you could say I'm retired, living on a very small, but very welcome, monthly check.
:(
I recently read about a small child who died from drinking a home made spinich smoothie, and I thought, "I can drink spinich at home?!? I need that!"
So now I'm in the market for a juicer. Yes, price is something I have to think about, but, really, we're talking about essential health here. I can't even eat the side-salad that comes on top of a McSAD Burger.
I think a basic thrift-shop blender can handle softer fruits such as grapes, citrus (with the white part of the rind), etc.
But for harder fruits and veggies, I'd need a juicer. My first internet search turned up the Omega 8003, which will most fit my needs, I think.
But now I'm looking at the "New Age" magnetic type, which claim to get much more nutrients by altering the shape of the water molecules or some such thing. The best seem to be the Green Star or the Samson Ultra. These cost about twice as much as the Omega 8003. But if it gives me nutrients that I'm not getting anywhere else, and that the 8003 won't provide, then it seems like the only choice.
So, should this toothless old man go for one of the Magnetic Mysto-ceramic types? Or stick with the Omega 8003?
Or am I barking up the wrong tree from the get-go?
Thanks for being here!

I strongly suggest a Vita-Mix, even if you have to ask friends to help you buy it. There are stories on the Vita-Mix site about people who have been healed by using it.

Ha! I remember stopping at the Vita Mix demonstration at a local store a while back. They had all these powders to add to your smoothies and were trying to sell the powders along with the equipment. A woman in the audience got very confrontational with the health claims of the Vita-Mix salesman. I learned from her that when it comes to healing cancer and such, you need a juicer that gets the pulp out - to get the maximum nutrition into the body. Normal healthy people need the pulp to keep their fiber intake up.
Personally I have 2 juicers. Both cheap ones. One I got 30 years ago from a hippie who recycled them for a living. Dh, not knowing what I am looking at, (and who thinks any stupid nutrition book that he got for cheep cheep cheep somewhere is equivalent to books I want like China Syndrome) got one for me for Xmas at Walmart. It is one of those that you can throw the whole fruit in the wide-mouth top. It is stronger than my old one but more wasteful of ingredients. Sometimes I even take the chunks out of the pulp holder and freeze for rejuicing. Also now I just read that I should be worrying about seeds cause there is poison in them. (I thought there was laetrile (?) in them) Neither of these will do wheatgrass.
I have read that the Omega is the best. . . but am not up-to-date on this new stuff you write about. There are alot of threads here comparing juicers - some quite recent. MichiganRoman seems to understand the mechanical stuff very well.
I am not into messing with mother nature or God. I think that the water molecule is probably designed perfectly unless they want to tell me that some meteor impact altered the original shape of all water molecules on the planet. I obviously don't get the logic of the water molecule thing.

You know there are Agencys that will help you get Teeth. I see you have access to a PC so do some searchin' or check with the Senior Citizen Organization in your area.
I am a Vita-Mix and Juicer Cutie. Its all about what I feel like. Sometimes I don't feel like cleaning my Juicer so I throw everything in the Vita-Mix and I can get on with Life.
Glad you are here with us. Go to your nearest Thrift Store and you WILL find a Juicer that will get you through.......

Here is one of the recent threads on this topic although a search should find many more.

and I recently found this one. . . . a blender not a juicer
http://www.qigong.com/videos-and-tools.htm#CompletePackage
scroll down for the Blendtech 3 HP blender.
Their material talks about the mechanics of the equipment and how it affects your nutrition. Have no clue if it is bogus or not.
Am wondering if this is the blender I have seen demolishing wood and metal objects on youtube?

Hello there,
Welcome!! Going raw would be great for you. I don't think you need to get a juicer though, unless you really like juice and want to spend the money. You can get everything you need nutritionally by blending soft fruits and greens. Just be sure to thoroughly mix each mouthfull of smoothie with saliva and hold it in your mouth for awhile before you swallow. It's not good to just gulp them down. Saliva has digestive enzymes in it that start the digestive process.
Also, to save money, if I were you I would make bananas the base of my diet. They are super cheap, readily available, delicious, filling and very nutritious! :-)
Wishing you all the best!

I agree with Pierre. A Vita-Mix would be most beneficial. One needs fiber to become/stay healthy. You can check thrift stores, garage sales, craigslist.org, freecycycle, etc.

Just thought I'd pipe up and say hello, and that I understand what you're going through. I went for over a year with only six bottom teeth, while waiting to be able to afford dentures, even with insurance paying half the cost. While I have good dentures that fit well, I prefer to eat without them because the taste isn't there. I found I could eat alot of veggies easily if I shaved them with a peeler.
I don't know the state of your finances, but if there is one near you, maybe you can get a new set made that will fit properly. My FIL got his made with these guys and has never had a problem with them!
