I am 45 days raw now and I don't find drinking water very appealing.
I use to drink 4 to 6 litres a day on with my SAD cooked food...now I drink one grapefruit/water/rejulvelac drink a day.
I eat lots of fruit and vegetables and I notice my skin is dryer now (that could be due to winter).
Not sure what to do or if I should be forcing myself to drink more between meals?

Are you eating enough avocados or olives? You need some fat to make sebum to keep the water in.

and nuts

Got have a load of good fat

Your kidneys would love straight H2) too, without having to wait for it to be extracted from your food.

Try a sports bottle full of water and a few bits of ginger and a slice of lemon.. great fo flavoe and increase diuretic effect aoh and good for the immune system too.

The higher quantity of juicy fresh fruit and vegetables, the less thirsty you will be. I'd drink as I feel thirsty and not worry about it.

I saw an interview with David Wolfe and he was saying many people who start on the Raw food diet think they don't need to drink water because of their fruit intake, but he has seen people go to the hospital because of not drinking water. Especially in the beginning when you are cleansing and detoxing, I think it is important to drink enough because your body has a lot of work to move the toxins out. I have also read that thirst is not a good indicator of when to drink water because by the time your thirsty you are already dehydrated. Just my 2 cents.

Oh I am not saying don't drink water if you eat juicy fruit, BUT, I am a bit more relaxed about AMOUNT.

Also, I've heard that "by the time you are thirsty, you are already dehydrated" line for years. I don't buy it. Thirst is put there for a reason - as our body's signals are there to indicate what we need to do NEXT, not what we already should have done. Yes, thirst probably indicates we are starting the chain of events to become dehydrated, but not dangerously so. Thirst is our chance to drink when our body tells us to.

Yes, water intake is important, but IMO drinking a certain amount because "they" say you should is no different than eating because it's 12 o'clock even though you're not hungry :D

Everyone chants like a mantra "listen to your body" when deciding what raw foods are best, or how much to eat, or what have you. But no, with water, listening to your body is dangerous? Doesn't make sense to me.

Greetings :-)

The body likes to process about 1/2 a person's bodyweight in Lbs in Oz of H20 daily to keep the kidneys very happy.

So if you weigh 150lbs, 75oz of H20 does wonders for your kidneys and whole body. The kidneys can process up to 2/3 of your bodyweight using this scale, but anymore than that and excess water retention and mineral flushing can become dangerous (K and Na specifically).

Now, if we're eating a diet high in water bearing fruits and veggies then our 150Lbs person doesn't need to physically consume her 70-80oz of h20 daily.

If someone interested in going raw asked me if they need less water I would still recommend at least 1/3 of their bodyweight in Lbs in Oz of pure, distilled, and structured H20.

So our 150Lb raw goddess should still drink at least 50oz of pure H20

I've heard this scale used many times, and personally it works wonders for me. Keep in mind that if you are exercising, the scale changes.

Peace in Love,

James (marlie28's partner)

P.S - In response to the feeling of thirst, the threshold at which the typical individual becomes conscious of feeling thirsty is indeed in response to a very large number of tissues responding to dehydration. First of all, your body prioritizes and so the vital organs are usually not dehydrated. The kidneys however, which are the main neural contributor to the feeling of dehydration, are usually in a state of "dehydration" when you feel thirsty. That's all scientifically speaking. In my experience however, those who commit to eating raw foods and other healthful and spiritual modalities usually become more in tune with their bodies needs. Perhaps the threshold at which dehydration enters our conscious awareness is lowered.

I ended up in the hospital becuase I didn't drink enough water. My water supply is chlorinated. I've resorted to buying bottled water because the taste of Long Island water is nasty. I did some calculations and I found out thati have to drink 3 liters of water a day:eek:.
