View Full Version : fuel me up!
i am looking for the ''perfect'' am meal.
i usually do a big green smoothie 2-3 hours before my workout (this am it was 2 bananas, 2 apples, strawberries and 2 generous handfuls of kale/collards, 1 stalk celery)
i want to try something easier/quicker to digest. (less fibre!)
low fat and high carb is a must.
help!

Kate,
When I was doing a hardcore morning workout, I was drinking a coconut/banana/almond smoothie. But if you're looking for low fat and high carb, I'd suggest fruit smoothies. Minus the greens. And do the greens after your workout, when your body is circulating and awake and can pound them into submission. :)

my favorite simple fresh smoothie is two bananas, some water and a handful of mint. Yum. Or orange juice base with one banana, a spoonful of coconut oil and a handful of spinach. Very sweet though. For just fruit I like bananas and peaches with some water blended. :D

Hi there,
You are on the right track with smoothies, just remove the hard to digest greens (kale, collards, mature spinach). Either switch to lesser amounts of tender greens (lettuces, baby spinach) or just do all fruit. Apples, especialy with the peel on are often hard for some people to digest.
I always found this smoothie very easy to digest and delicious:
juice from several oranges or about a cup or so of purified water
4 or 5 ripe bananas
a cup or two of frozen fruit (blueberries with cherries was my favorite combo)
a few dates if you like it sweeter
Delicious and filling!!
Also, be sure to thoroughly chew each bite of smoothie. Don't drink them. Smoothies aren't like water, they contain a lot of food that needs to be broken down by chewing and mixing thoroughly with saliva.
All the best,
Audrey

If you are looking for less fiber, why don't you just do juice instead?
All the natural sugars will give you tons of energy right away, and you'll get wonky if you don't exercise to burn it off. Maybe try some mostly fruit and a little bit of green juice?
i can be satisfied by a juice for 1-2 hours max, then i get h-u-n-g-r-y!
i need energy that will keep me going till lunch :)
i don't want to be a 'breakfast-eater', but i can't seem to kick the habit...
the only juice that ever came close to doing it for me was ''the wheat grass delight'' from One Life in Santa Monica: 2 oz wheat grass, apple juice, ginger and lemon.
i think all the wheat grass put me system in shock :)
