Hello everyone,
I've been a member here since January and have posted a few times, but have never introduced myself.
My name is Kirstyn. I am 31 years old and I have two beautiful children, Stacy, who is 13 and has Down Syndrome and Ryan, who is 10 and is high-functioning autistic. I am a severely handicapped special education teacher and one of three teachers in our school district that is piloting a new program predominantly for autistic children.
My mother, Debi, and my brother, Terry, also live with use, or we all live together. My mother, brother and I are all divorced, my brother has only been since December which is why he is living with us!
That being said we are all preparing to transition to raw after payday (my mother's and mine, she's a 2nd grade teacher). We are slowly preparing now for the adults to go 100% raw and the kids will eat cooked at school (for now).
I'm a little bit concerned about my daughter not understanding why she won't be eating that same at home and my son is not the biggest fruit and veggies fan, but I'm ready for the challenge and have already started talking with my son about the change. My daughter has no problems with fruits and veggies, but has had 13 years to get set in her ways and doesn't quite understand changes and I can't really explain to her. So I'll have to deal with any transitioning problems with if/as they come.
We are big Walt Disney World fans and try to go twice a year. We were there last week and put off transitioning so that we wouldn't be "brand new" to raw when there. We will, however, be going again in October/November and could really use some pointers about being raw while traveling. And if there is anyone that might read this that may line in the WDW area, could you point me to any good health food stores or farmer's market in the area that we could go to while there (we drive so will have a car).
Okay, I've bored you all enough! I'm sure I'll be posting questions throughout the transition and beyond. Thanks a bunch for reading!
