OK, ive had handfuls of goji berries at some of the raw foods potlucks a few times before, but just a few, and along with other food, and i never noticed a reaction to them...
yesterday, however, i picked up a package of them and started eating them and they make my back teeth hurt INCREDIBLY whenever i eat them. it almost feels like they are eating holes in my teeth or like i have a million cavities and the high natural sugar content of the berries makes them almost BUZZ. i dont think i have a million cavities, though i havent been to the dentist in a few years. also, this doesnt happen with dates, agave, raisins, figs, or anything else.... very strange... almost like something in the berries was reacting to my fillings or eating my teeth away or something.... it stopped as soon as i stopped eating them and eating something else instead. weird.
On that same note, Swiss chard gives me a sore/irritated throat, ESPECIALLY if i chew on the stems and swallow the juice from them. WEIRD. spinach is fine, beets and beet greens are fine, kale etc are fine, but SWISS CHARD STEMS= irritant. WEIRD. after i munched on a few of the stems i couldnt even eat the salad i had made with the leaves cuz my throat was still irritated. what is really strange is that my understanding is that swiss chard is very similar composition to beet greens, that chard is beets that were selectively bred for the big leaves into "leaf beet" or swiss chard..., and beet greens or beet juice doesnt bother me. Weird.
i guess the obvious advice is to just not eat this stuff...but WEIRD. these foods both seem "harmless."
