 It's been two years since I last visited!! (to the day, quite a coincidence or not?!) I have been lurking around since then and have decided to join in hoping this routine will keep me on track. Why is this way of eating so hard to maintain? I really want to focus this time!!

Hey there,
It sure helps me to browse older threads using the nana for all the positive aspects of being RAW, & I especially enjoy personal stories from members! :D I smile while thinking of them and as I eat, I still remember all those stories and can imagine them in myself! :p
What are your reasons for going RAW? Why do you want to eat RAW foods?

Hi there,
Welcome back! :-)
Changing one's diet significantly is a huge lifestyle change and requires a fairly large commitment. It helps to stay focused on the reasons that you want to make the change, to keep on visualizing success and to take one day at a time. Surround yourself motivating influences and decide that you are worth it.
You can do it!!! :-)
All the best,
Audrey

My reasons for going raw? hmmm ... there are several! First i truely believe that this the best and most natural way to eat, God given foods. Second, I could use losing a few lbs, not a lot, just 10-15 lbs would be great. Third, my siblings are falling apart healthwise and I would llike to avoid the problems they are having, etc. cardiovascular, high cholesterol, IBS, cancer scares. My mother died of ovarian cancer fairly young, and my dad of heart disease. I feel that just waiting to be diagnosed and then try to change is backward thinking. I would like to go to bed each night with no regrets ( no tortilla chip binges:) )
Last time I tried raw, I made an effort twice a week to spend the day in the kichen making food or cleaning veggies to have on hand. It was good for a while then life got in the way! Any other ideas would be welcome! Thanks
Denise

It ALWAYS happens like that "LIFE GETS IN THE WAY" but what are the alternaties? As you said heart diesese, cancer etc. and also as you said, you would like to avoid these problems.
You see, you already have ALL the answers. We just have to get you to realize what a wealth of knowledge you hold.
I know the recipes are tempting, Beautiful..only if we had a Chef. When I started I was making everything. I was on SMOKING. Then "LIFE GOT IN THE WAY". As I tell my Friends "I GOTS me a Life", in order to keep my RAW status I had to SIMPLFY my life. I had to forget the recipes and maintain RAW.
I concentrated on a FULL BELLY, once it pass the Lips, the BELLY don't care.
I begun to eat Whole Foods in their Natural state. I also found out that it is much easier and better to drink a Salad than chew it (GREEN Smoothies and Fruit Smoothies)..........
I wish you everything you need to STAY RAW....Welcome Back.......

I think it would help, if you read this everyday... kind of reminding yourself why you're RAW esp. when "life gets in the way." :p

Welcome back!
It's a lifestyle change. To me. It's not a diet. I have totally changed my life by committing to 100% raw and will never go back. I feel too well to want to jeopardize that. I feel alive.
This can be as complicated, gourmet, or as simple as YOU make it to be. I choose to make it simple. Simplicity becomes me. ;)
Once in a while I go gourmet and I've never found it to be complicated. Well, maybe in the beginning when I'd see a recipe I'd want to try and realize I didn't have the right thing sprouting or soaked or whatever.
What influences are making this difficult for you? Do you live with SAD eaters? Are there foods still in your house that tempt you? Are YOU making this more complicated? Do you want to feel healthy, energetic, and alive?
You have to ask yourself these types of questions. Why is it hard to stay focused? For me staying focused meant if I eat healthy I won't get migraines. THAT was enough after my entire life of feeling ill, but that was enough to keep me on track. Plus I love the variety of foods I'm eating now. I've been Vegetarian for 26 years, then I was Vegan for 2, now raw since last July. I will never go back to food void of all their goodness. I eat things I rarely ate before. Cakes, cookies, ice cream, but it's different. It's whole, healthy foods. Not processed crap.
Do you have Alissa's book? If not, I would strongly suggest getting it and reading it. She covers all kinds of concerns and questions. I learned so much from it. Plus this forum is a wealth of information. We may not all agree all the time, but that too is a tool for learning.
As far as life getting in the way, well, eating a healthy, living diet will help you deal with life getting in the way. My mental clarity has sharpened tremendously. I view things even differently then before and I thought I had a fair view on life before! Especially when life gets in your way should you feed your body, mind, and soul with good healthy foods.
Stick around here. You'll learn lots.
Commit to a 30-day challenge. A challenge for yourself. If you can do it for 30days, you can do it longer.
I wish you luck!

It's hard to stay focused, too b/c our society is SAD - in more way than one. I have the hardest time in the evenings if we're watching TV - all the brain-washing commercials do seep in! If you believe that RAW is the way for you, you'll be ok. Practice positive self talk and don't beat yourself up or quit completely if you stumble. Life is a journey.

I think It would be easier to maintain if we all had our own chefs :p Well, At least for me.
