My friend just sent me this. Has anyone tried it? I want to, and to then sell a BLT!!! OMG!!!

----------
It tastes and looks exactly like bacon. I make the strips as big as I can and make a triple batch and freeze it in a glass jar and we can eat one batch for a BLTs supper for Mark and me. I cut the salt and oil and it still leaves oil on the teflex. This is my version of the version on Cricket's website of the recipe found in "How we All went Raw" by Top Raw Men
BACON-WHY NOT?
1 large eggplant peeled and thinly sliced lengthwise. I use the 2mm slicer I sent for to fit my 11 cup cuisinart food processor.
Marinate in a mixture of:
3 Tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon black pepper
2 Tablespoons maple syrip
3 Tablespoons Ume Plum vinegar
2 Tablespoons Apple cider vinegar
2 Tablespoons cider
1 Tablespoon liquid smoke
for 2 or more hours. I use a large rectangular glass cake pan and "stir" it occasionally. The last time I marinated it for 6 hours. Spread them out on the teflex and dehydrate for 8 hours and then turn the "bacon" and dry another 8 hours. The smoke is not in the original.

Soundng fabulous over here. Yes, the BLT on the onion bread vs. cracker sounds super to me with sprouts and tomato. Oh, never tried this but thought sour cream may look pretty too.

I don't have liquid smoke, but sure have eggplant, eggplant and more eggplant that needs attention. Think I need to buy liquid smoke eventually?

It seems my husband keep buying eggplant and it's still in the refrigerator. Good excuse may be coming up. Love the picture shared separetely. Have the message number helps tons.

Thanks Vegan for that number.

My friend who is pretty particular just gets the 1 tbsp of liquid smoke (I questioned it's integrity) and says "whatever" - it's not pure evil and such a small amount (I have yet to read the ingredients)....

And she gave me a rockin mayo recipe, but I was trying to think of good "condiments" for a BLT besides SPROUTS and honestly, sour cream is a FAB idea! Thank you! And bonus since I'm ALREADY MAKING IT for my fajitas. I try to do that on the weekends so I don't go out of my skull. And the sour cream I could eat with a spoon. Did I just say that outloud?

I read the title of this thread and got the mental image of a person going to the supermarket, buying a package of bacon from the deli aisle, opening it and eating it straight from the package.

On a related note, why isn't there a smiley to symbolize "EEWWW!!?"

Hi Ertarox,

Thanks for sharing this recipe. I have tried the, or perhaps it's just one of many , eggplant bacon recipes floating on this board and although I liked it really did not taste like bacon. So I'll have to see if I can scrounge up some liquid smoke and give this version a whirl.

I'm making it the weekend after Easter. :-)

I'll make a ton of food and wraps while fasting to sell the following weekend. :-)
