I sell these, too. I miss the obvious. LOL
Rawritos
3 Cups Sprouted Sunflower Seeds
4 Cups Frozen Corn, thawed
1/2 Cup Braggs
1/2 Cup Water
1/4 Cup Onion Powder
1 Tsp Garlic Powder
<note: stop here to make them "just" really great corn chips>
2 Tbsp Taco Seasoning
2 Tbsp Chili Powder
1 - 2 Tbsp Nutritional Yeast
Blend well in food processor and spread on Teflex Sheets. If you are making corn chips, when you flip them SPRINKLE them with a mix of the following: 1/3 Nut Yeast, 1/3 Taco Seasoning, 1/3 Chili Powder. I use a little shaker and use a lot of shake. They are a powdery, cheezy, taco-y, red corn chip. Hmmm... THAT'S A DORITO!
These are quick, addictive and yummy! OMG. So Addictive! I haven't made them in awhile and people ask about them all the time. I'll definitely have them in my "book" one day, but like this is totally something I am happy to share. LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK! :-)
They are the triangular orange crackers on the bottom right in this photo from a lunch I made for friends:
http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o46/ertarox/cateringlunch.jpg
And they are the 3rd cracker back on the left for this event I catered, not that I cater a lot because I don't...YET! lol:

Looks delicious!:) You are incredibly talented.:D
The Taco Sesoning you are refferring to is it just a premix ( salt filled) store bought package. Or something you make up?
Oh YUM.... I'd love me some rawritos! Thanks for the recipe... will definitely try it out!

I use the Frontier Organic Taco Seasoning. :-) ?
I totally agree Marci, although now I love raw crackers, etc. I was a pretzel girl, though. But Doritos are just Heavenly. And these taste VERY similar!
Thanks guys - I hope you dig 'em! :-)

So wait... for the Dorito variety, and not the plain corn, do you blend the seasonings into it, or do you sprinkle afterwards?
Ertarox
04-04-2007, 10:04 PM
For the Dorito variety, you do both. You blend N.Y., taco seasoning & chili powder in them AND you sprinkle them heavily with it. I'd use more TS and NY than Chili seasoning - chili is kind of bitter/bland, just a great color. :D

These are good. NO, their not just good. They are super deliciously GREAT!!
We almost had to make another batch to dehydrate. Yours truly ate alot of the 'batter' before it was even on the teflex. This reminds me of my favorite taco at taco Bell...the flavors are very similar. It takes the craving away from the real thing, this batter does....
Next time, I am quadrupling the batch. My favorite food is corn, always has been, this is delicious!
Thank you for this recipie.

1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1/4 teaspoon dried oregano

I made this these last week with a few modifications
soaked not sprouted sunflower seeds
extra cumin
extra nutritional yeast
cracked red pepper
fresh corn
DELICIOUS beyond belief
my new single most favorite crunchy RAW food item:D

Oh, when I say sprouted I kinda mean soaked as soaking will cause the nub to grow....
SOUNDS GREAT!
Okay...um...let's see -
Cool Ranch: I would add sour cream and onion to the mix!
Jalapeno & Cheddar: I would add some of the cheddar cheese sauce, perhaps (or just more nutritional yeast-?) and obviously, jalapeno.
Never had Tandoori Heat - so I cannot suggest anything.
Sour cream is MARVELOUS in crackers. My sour cream and onion ones RULE, they are not Doritos, though. More on them soon....

Hi, this might be a dumb question but when you say sunflower seeds... you mean the actual sunflower seed not shelled or anything? I went to my natural food store and was going to get sunflower seeds and they told me they didn't have the ones that weren't shelled and were raw, they had ones that weren't shelled but weren't raw and they had ones that were shelled. Any ideas on where I might be able to get them raw and organic? Thanks, I can't wait to try these!! Also how do you get them into that perfect triangle shape? I'm new at this dehydating thing can you tell
MaineMomof4
04-30-2007, 10:01 PM
Ok another funny question... you want to get the raw organic sunflower seeds hulled (without the shell) right? Thanks again! :o
SchoolOfRAWk
05-01-2007, 01:54 PM
Yes, the white kind you soak and eat. Hulled and raw. Not the salty cooked kind. Or the black unhulled kind you plant. Usually, they are easy to find.

May I please ask a question?
After I dehydrated them, I stored them in an air tight glass jar. Now, I am dissappointed as they are soft and chewy, not crisp as they were before I put them in the jar! They are unappetizing now.
How are crackers stored so as to not loose their crispiness? And, how to gain back the crispiness once it is gone?
Thank yu

The Rawritos were really good and tasty, but I think I'm gonna put them back in the dehydrator. They didn't come out as crispety-crunchy as the chips I left plain. I guess the spices must have interfered a little with the drying or something. The seaoning is really good though, and the plain chips are awesome, so I have no doubt that when I get them crunchy they will be pure heaven!;)

You are right, they do take longer (for me too, at least).
But they also don't stay hard and crunchy that great.

I dehydrate mine as long as possible, cause I'm a night owl I usually start them before I go to bed and continue them the next day, but if you want to put them in earlier (before you go to work) that would work too...
the trick is to get every speck of moisture out then they will be really crispy, and I store my leftovers in the freezer, they stay crunchy that way.
Hygeia
03-14-2008, 05:28 AM
They stay crunchy in the freezer? Good to know. I'm going to have to make some of these this weekend.

I have a batch in the dehydrator now. They've been in for 45 minutes now, are they done yet? LMBO!!!!
I wasn't sure what the consistanc y is supposed to be so I hope I didn't make it to wet, but I followed the recipe so they should be fine. I got a bit on my hand while spreading it and it tasted so good not even 'cooked' yet so I know they are going to be yummy!!!
Question though, how important is it that the seeds are "sprouted"? I don't know if I soaked them long enough but couldn't wait to get it mixed up so they for only a few hours.
Oh well, I guess I'll know by morning. It will take overnight for them to be done right? hehehehehe

omg!!! dancing around after trying these doritos!!!
ok....don't laugh though, mine came out green because i used sunflower sprouts i found in the store. the taste is probably similar because they are yum!!!
few questions:
1. what sprouts does everyone else use?
2. how do you get the consistency right? mine are very hard to spread, and chunky. i blended them in FProcessor as much as i could, but the corn kernels were still partially frozen so could that be it? or was it the grassy green sprouts i used?
thanks everyone, these are unbelievable!!!

I didn't sprout my sunflower seeds
I measured before I soaked my seeds
I added more nutritional yeast
I made the batter super thin
They came out crispy... tasty... light... my fiance loved them and he usually has to disect my raw goodies before deciding whether or not he likes them, but this time he hovered over the dehydrator as I was taking them out...
PS- my 2 labs loved them too!

Sounds wonderful.. I am very new here and have a couple questions. I am not familiar with the "Braggs". I checked on the internet and all I found was a liquid seasoning.. it this it? Also, when you roll out the mixture, do you just let it dry or do you use an dehydrator? I am anxious to try this, I love chips and it looks so good.

Yes, that's it.
You can't really "roll" it out. You spread it out and dehydrate. I know some people have tried dehydrating without an actual dehydrator, but I'm not sure how that works.
I just made these last night and enjoyed them this morning.
They truly are good. I didn't put the seasoning on the outside though, because I ran out of it. It was still yummy adn the texture is great!

if you want them to stay crisp..... after you take them out of the D. you MUST! M U S T !!!! let them cool for a fair amount of time. then you can store them. i have left mine out for as much as half a day to make sure they had cooled completely !
its the moisture in them from the warm D. that maked them soften when stored in an airtight container.
if you leave them out for a few hours they should be ok.
just make sure they are super crispy when you take them

I soaked my sunflower seeds for 6-8 hours and then drained them yesterday and I've rinsed them once (last night) and I still don't' really see anything sprouting yet. Can I use sunflower seeds that are not sprouted for the rawritos? Do you think the sunflower seeds will sprout? It's probably been about 11-12 hours since I drained them from soaking. I just have them sitting on the counter in a bowl covered with a paper towel right now. Do you think in another 12 hours they may sprout? This is my first attempt at sprouting, maybe I'm just being impatient. Also I did see in Alissa's book that is says you can use sunflower seeds that aren't sprouted but then how would the measurements be and would it affect the recipe possibly. If someone can help me it would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks!!!

How do you get the chips in the triangle or square shape, before you put them in the dehydrator or after a certain amount of time in the dehydrator do you use a cookie cutter or something? I just don't see how I would get them into a certain shape since the batter seems like it might stick to whatever I use for a cookie cutter or to shape them. I have mine in the dehydrator right now and I'm hoping after a few hours I can just cut son horizontal and diagonal lines in them so when they're completely done they'll be squares or maybe if I do diagonal I can get triangles. We'll see what happens!
MaineMomof4

When rawritos come out of the dehydrator are they supposed to be crispy or do they get that way after you take them out and they cool off?
monkapotapus
01-28-2009, 07:59 AM
To get the "shape" square or what have you - I use the back of a butter knife right after I spread the batter out on my excalibur tray - I usually do squares - when they are ready to flip off the teflex sheet I just put an empty tray on top - hold them together & flip - peel off the teflex sheet - walla!
I leave mine in the dehydrator for days because I like them very crispy - I also spread mine pretty thin & my bf likes his thicker - I still keep them in the dehydrator the same amount of time - personal preference I guess.
Hope this helps!

LOL -- I never seem to have an empty tray when I get that bad boy going! I have the D full right now, but it's exactly what I want to have, so when it's done it'll be off for a few days. I just made something similar to this and had quite a time doing the flip, one by one.
snoops
01-28-2009, 08:48 AM
I usually just break mine up into whatever size pieces when they are done. I made a bread the other day though and when I turned it off the teflex sheet onto the mesh to finish drying, I scored it with a pizza wheel and they broke very nicely into squares when I was done. SO you could try that if you wanted the triangle shapes.
