I'm really struggling to come up with what to eat. It seems my difficulty in sticking to raw foods comes more from not knowing what to eat than not having the will power. First off, I don't want to eat a lot of sweet fruit. I want to limit sweet fruit to what is in my morning green smoothie. I do this for my teeth, which are one of three primary motivations for sticking to raw. After the smoothie I am fine until lunch. So what next? Carbohydrates are the fuel for the body, but how do I get them without eating more fruit? Grains? Vegetables? It would be hard to get all the carbohydrates we need from vegetables wouldn't it? They just don't have much.

I need to learn to make something like flax bread. I could make some sandwiches with that just fine, but I still need more food with ample carbohydrates.

I don't know. It just seems like it's very hard to get enough food without eating tons of fruit, which I don't think is a good idea for me.

Anyone have any simple recipes that could serve as staples - things that I could make often with not too much time in the kitchen? Also, without anything but a dehydrator and a blender, and using ingredients that are very common. Ones that don't require living on the west coast.

There are a lot of recipes with vegetables. I'm not sure if you don't want eat a lot of nuts/seeds, but most of the recipes use them. Anywhere from zucchinni wraps to a simple salad. I would get a book with Raw Recipes or if you have some time, there are a lot floating on this site and the web. You can google any vegetable + Raw Foods and find many.

I like this salad:
Brocolli, Zucchini, Cucumber, Red Cabbage, Cilantro, Lemon/Lime Juice

Maybe it just means I really need to get prepared with lots of recipes in advance before I try to maintain 100%.

Yes, if you are looking to eat mostly vegetables then you need to get some recipes. You could always mono eat or make various salads, but I know I would get bored with that.

These are the non-sweet fruits:
Cucumber
Tomato
avocado
Olive

Oriental Lettuce Wraps
dice small or grate:
carrots, celery, brocoli stalks, cauliflower, mushrooms,
or any variety of veggies that you prefer. Toss with some organic tamari. Add fresh bean sprouts and toss. Spoon veggies into fresh, washed lettuce leaves of your choice. Roll cabbage roll style and enjoy.

I love making stuffed mushrooms. Even my non raw spouse eats them. We had them for dinner today. I ate them with my veggies and he ate them with his chicken

My recipe.

Marinate white mushrooms in brags. Pull out the stems for filling.

Filling:

2 stems of asparagus.
1 TBS olive oil.
2 TBS parsley (dried)
1 TBS basil (dried)
2 TBS pine nuts
2 Tbs Sun flower seeds
1/2 TBS lemon juice.
A sprinkle of fresh garlic
Sesame seeds (optional)
1-2 TBS tap water

Blend until paste and fill mushrooms.
Dehydrate for 1 hour and eat while warm.

If you like a more dry mushroom, dehydrate longer.

Make Onion Bread or Veggie Wraps. Sandwiches/wraps are sooo perfect! And quick!

The trick is to fill up (while starting out, mainly)

You can make nut blends, too, like at www.livingnutz.com

There are lots of great recipes on this board, too!

Maybe try to eat your heaviest meal at lunch? That's ideal.

Keep tasty dips and dressings on hand too!
