View Full Version : Headaches?

I've been 99% raw for over 5 weeks now. Lately I have been getting headaches...kind of a dull ache at the temples of my head. The pain is tolerable (ie, not to the point that I want to take meds or something) but I'm wondering what is causing it. I'm trying to drink TONS of water to make sure I'm not dehydrated. I just don't know. I don't see it related to a specific food that I eat either. I have been a bit stressed at work but not enough to cause headaches everyday. It is just so strange to me.

I banana'd this and didn't come up with much in searching other posts.

Anyone else have headaches, or know why this may be happening?

one of the mods ,Todd ,for fitness was still going through detox 2 years later( it may have been 3) I think he's a fruitarian too.

But think about it a lifetime of stuff has to work out of us.

i still get the occassional migraine. it kills- but i get them less often than i used too. the other day, i had a nice agonizing one and i was so close to taking excedrine. that stuff is the only thing that used to work for me.

instead, i made a cherry and banana smoothie. something in cherries is supposed to help with headaches. i relaxed my eyes and rested- drank a lot of water and my pain was soon gone.

i knew if i took excedrine- i would have had to detox that as well... and that didn't sound like a great idea to me. i'm trying to do better for myself, not worse.

when you get a headache during raw, it could also be because you're not eating enough raw- have greens, eat cherries, take care to get rest. stay off the computer for a bit. be gentle with yourself and it will go.

I am so glad you brought this up

When I get a small headache, I wait for about one hour, to see if drinking water and relaxing in a quiet room helps. Then, after an unsuccessful hour of trying natrual methods of eliminating the headache only to find the pain gripping my neck and temples as well by then, I will have to take medication which currently is Ibouprohpren immediately. If I wait, which Ihave done to try and sway the pain in the other direction, usually it doesn't work and I am in such intense pain with my neck and head, then my breathing gets difficult because of the pain, that I must remember to take the medicine at once, and never to forget my meds until it's too late.

I hope there is another solution. I have yet to find one.

I am waiting for answers, too.

Yikes! This is not good news :(. I've had chronic headaches since college (used to be tension headaches, but the last 5 years or so graduated to migraines, though, thank goodness, not debilitating ones) and one of the reasons I'm trying to stick with 100% raw is to get rid of the headaches!

Here's a juice that Dave Wolfe recommends for headaches in his "The Sunfood Diet" book. I never tried it so don't know if it works. I'm not much of a juice lover, although I've considered just making a salad out of this and seeing if it does any good:

4 ribs of celery
4 oz fennel
1 apple
1 orange

if anyone tries this, let us know how it works!

My migraines/headaches have been much better on raw. I still get them though. I find that eating too many nuts will contribute to a migraine.

I also read that celery helps with migraine pain. On migraine days I will juice celery -- usually along with carrot or apple. It really does help. I have only had to take medicine twice in the last month for debilitating headache. Much improved from 3x weekly in the past!!!

;)

I was 95% raw for 45 days and 100% raw (with one slip-up) for 30 days as of today:) . Last week a huge rash started - I still have that, and today the most horrendous ache in the back of my neck-- just like I had as a kid when I was really sick and running a high fever.

;) I'm willing to try the coffee enema -- It would be nice to speed up this detoxing business.

Aside from the detox, I feel very energized; so I'll ride this detox out while eating only raw foods. Sounds like you could do the coffee enema and still be raw. Any thoughts on that?

Thanks, Elizabeth, for the link!

Does it have to be a coffee enema to get relief? Would just water not do the trick?

I had a painful headache earlier this week along w/ pain in my eyes. Anyone ever have one like this? I had my water w/ me. It didn't help, although I didn't drink very much, b/c I wasn't thirsty.

I just tried to find places to lay my head down. That helped me. I didn't take anything at all. It went away after a good sleep. :D Prior to this, I was stressing about something though. So it might not have been detox as it is for you. It was me & stress! :p

I broke down and had an Excedrin one afternoon while trying to deal with orders and customers, but I've managed to just work through the rest of the headaches.... they are not as frequent and not as pronounced now.

the coffee has a very specific effect on the liver and gall bladder... causes a release of toxins. There are other enemas that help in different ways..I am sure you can find info. online. on various ones, i.e. plain water, wheatgrass implants, lemon juice, chamomile tea, :-) I was mentining the coffee ones because I know that they are specifically used to help with detoxing and pain, esp. migraines.

Here is a link to a list of articles by Gabriel Cousins, one of which is on the coffee enema. Towards the end of the article, he discusses why/how it "works."

I hope you all feel better soon....:) I can certainly empathize, and really hope that you all find something that works for you.. I do know that as I eat Raw they become less severe and one summer , when I was almost all raw and was hiking, canoeing, etc., spending a lot of time being active outside, they went away entirely. :-) That was so wonderful..like a whole new world!!!! I want that again!:D

best....:)
