the other day I got a mandolin (very worth it,I RECOMEND IT ) It only has one setting (very thin),its from kyocera and is 25 dollars,It has a ceramic blade that way outlasts regular steel mandolin blades (its very sharp, although it looks like plastic)

So I started slicing sweet potatos and set it on 90 degrees....a few hours later I had thin, light,VERY crips sweet potato crips -they tasted great and had the texture of lays (without the grease!)

I definatley recomend trying these w/ the help of a super thin mandoline!!!

yep, mandoline is good. a true mandoline is a bit different and is stainless steel all over and is about 150 to 200 bucks. but, these veggie slicer things are what many people call mandolines. and, they suddenly seem nicer b/c of the fact that they are NOT 150 dollars! :)

the one i have was about 40 bucks i think. it is a zyliss, which also makes the world's best garlic press. If you don't have a zyliss garlic press, you need one. it is worth the 16 bucks! (btw, the zyliss is the same as the pampered chef one, they just put the PC name on it). ok, got sidetracked about the world's best garlic press. anyway, the mandoline/slicer that i have is zyliss, plastic casing, but heavy plastic. and, it has about 7 different blades, of differing thicknesses, with a case for the different blades.

i recommend these, definitely.

Hi,

I bought a mandoline and love it, It is stainless steel all through, with several blades, and you can make it thin or thick, with the turn of a knob.

I can also make crinkle cuts etc.

The best chips I like are parsnips, yams work really well, sweet potatoe, zucchini (these need to be a little thicker, as they have so much water content and will be like paper if cut too thin)

I eat these chips raw, or dehydrated, they are yummy, with salsa, my hubby likes them so much, that we plant an entire garden just for veggies for these chips for us.

We never have enough in the house.

Vegan Vixen, I didn't mean to suggest that you should get another one. i was just putting in my 2 cents about mandolines :)
