View Full Version : Eating Regular Meals Wrecked My Digestion

I've been eating 7 raw meals a day. One at 7am, 9am, 11am, 1pm, 3pm, 5pm and 7pm...or thereabouts.

Well, that idea has been thrown out the window.

I've been doing that for about a month, as well as eating some cooked food.

My digestion has been horrendous. I've experimented with thousands of ways to be raw. But now I'm going back to an intuitive approach. If I want to have a few big meals a day...or lots of little meals...or not eat until after midday, or whatever combination of raw eating I feel my intuition is guiding me to do, that is the raw path I will take.

As a result of my poor digestion I have bought a detox kit ($90), probiotics ($25), vegetarian enzymes ($25), slippery elm ($25). Now I am really sick. I am supposed to be flying interstate tomorrow night for Easter and I feel terrible.

Hopefully my new intuitive approach will help me today. I used to take the intuitive approach, but found that I didn't tend to eat enough, so brought in the regular meals. I want to eat all raw. Unfortunately, because I'm sick, my boyfriend is trying to make me eat cooked meals. He thinks raw food is making me sick. He did give me a powerful herbal Tibetan medicine last night. Hopefully that will help.

is an approach that requires listening to your body rather than forcing it to conform. Given what you wrote, that really does sound like the best way to go! I wouldn't be surprised if your body asks for very little food over the next several days as it straightens itself out.

Hello!

How has eating, well, is that 7 meals a day? Anyway, how has that recked your digestion? I would like to know because a lot of people advise you to eat 6 small meals a day, and if it didn't work, then woo. Tell me more!

Love to all!

Shoney. You are right. My stomach is grumbling a bit, but I still don't feel like I should eat anything. I had a few grapes when I got up. I've dropped all of the supplements for the time being. The detox kit box did warn that nausea, flu-like symtoms and other unpleasant conditions may develop and to stop if it becomes too uncomfortable. Yesterday, I had to leave work at around midday. I had a fruit salad and later a vegetable salad with avocado. I felt like I had a basketball in my stomach.

Startootsie, I can only go by experience. Of course, I wasn't eating huge meals, but maybe, sometimes, your body just needs rest. Of course I was also eating some cooked meals, which could have also been the culprit, and I was thinking at the time, that maybe, digestively, you can't eat a high raw diet and some cooked food...that you either have to eat mostly cooked food or all raw. But in the past, I've been able to eat a high raw diet, with a bit of cooked, and I've been okay. Other people seem to be able to be 80 or 90% raw and be fine. At this point, I can't give up cooked food completely. I suppose I'll find out in a few days if the intuitive approach improves digestion. I still feel inclined to only eat fruit in the mornings, fruit & vegetables & greens in the afternoon and all acceptable raw food in the evenings, but I am not quite there yet. I eat fruit until 12pm at this point and eat any other raw food after that. I've had green smoothies, salads...maybe not enough greens overall...but I suppose I'm testing out now if it is a timing thing. Sapoty Brook said in his book 'Eco Eating' that no two days of raw eating should be the same...there should be some degree of chaos about it. I never feel as good if I eat things like nuts in the morning, so I do feel I need to impose some kind of discipline on my eating. I will be elated if my digestion improves as a result of this intuitive eating though.

What exactly did you do though? I really don't think a little bit of cooked food would hurt your digestion. Because you are swiching over to raw food, your body is used to eating cooked food, so I think that a little bit woudn't hurt it. That's just my opinon. Were you eating fruit in the morning before? How has this recked your digestion? Gas, bloating, etc? Ad what did you eat like before this happened?

Love to all!
