Does anyone just do a water fast? If so, how long? This is only my 8th day raw and I am contemplating water fasting for a while. But I wonder how badly my body needs the fruit and veggies to flush out toxins and so forth from my system (detox). Anyone?

I read somewhere that juice fasting is comparable to what water fasting was in biblical times. There are a lot more toxins in our environment today and water fasting can release them too quickly into the system. There are people out there who have done it and made it through, but I personally would rather juice fast.

Water fasting is supremely difficult unless you are already very clean. Unless you have previous experience with fasting, it isn't advised to do an unsupervised water fast. If you plan to keep a busy schedule, a water fast is rarely advised.
Generally speaking, the closer you get to consuming nothing, the faster your body will break up toxins. This is why an experienced faster may be able to juice fast for months, water fast for weeks, but they may only be able to dry fast for a few days, or maybe just a few hours.
Overall, the juice fast is most efficient in terms of ease of use and effectiveness.

I agree with Draginvry. Water fasting is safe, but you have to pace it. It is the ultimate cleanse, in that the body then focuses entirely on cleaning house. Better to go with juice fasts for a time -- a few seasons -- to prepare the way for water only, unless you are young, relatively clean & healthy. Fasting is a very individualized thing. We want to be bold, but also be wise & cautious about it.

 I did my first green lemonade this morning and experienced the best energy I had for months. It consisted of a whole lemon, peel and all stuffed through my Champion juicer, two apples, celery, and parsley. I had enough energy to go clean a house for four hours. Then I had lunch, Raw calzone, and had to go take a nap, and it's, like, oh, yeah, duh, my system is asking me to lighten up!

Choosing whether to water or juice fast is up to the individual. Which do you think would be best for you right now? :p
I usually go on 14-day water fasts(about twice a year). It's what works for me. :D

I think I'm going to water fast during the day. And then have a small to moderate salad in the evening of raw veggies. Will this have a similar effect as a juice fast?

Hi Katrina,
IMHO, Having a blended salad(putting your veggies in a blender)would be more akin to a cleanse than eating a small veggie salad. The added work on the digestive system of breaking down veggies basically inhibits the cleansing process.
Nevetheless, you can still choose to do this since it is a personal choice. Perhaps, what you have described is perfect for you for where you are right now in your life. At another time, you may prefer a juice fast, which is moe cleansing.
All the best to you,
Soulstar
