View Full Version : Oat bran and groats

I'm wanting to eat raw oat bran to help lower cholesterol (yes, I know 100% raw will help even with out it, but more and sooner would be good). After a web search and a banana search here, I'm confused on the relation between oat brans and groats.

Is it that -
* The bran is part of the groat, so raw groats like Alissa's will give me bran, but I'd need to eat more than I would of straight bran because it's not 100% bran?
* The bran is what's removed from the groat, so the groat won't give any bran.

Is there any raw bran available for sale? Alissa has the groats which she flakes. Sounds super, but I'd prefer to have 100% bran if possible and eat less of it.

Thanks for any help on this!

I'm almost sure you can get RAW Bran from the Health Food Store......

Thanks, Spicyfull. Good idea to look there. I assumed most of the main stuff might have had heat processing of some sort, but I should investigate more.
