Does anyone use Nutiva's raw hemp protein powder? I'm thinking about getting some today, but it seems weird to me that a protein powder could be raw. Any thoughts?

I do. Here's some info on it (taken from rawguru.com):

Raw Organic Hemp Protein Powder is created after removing most of the oil from hemp seed via a cold-pressing method. This powder naturally contains 37% protein, 43% fiber, 0% carbs*, 9% beneficial fats (Omega-3, -6, -9 plus GLA), Chlorophyll, calcium, vitamin E, and iron. Enjoy protein powder added to your favorite juice or fruit to create a power-packed smoothie drink. One serving, 30 grams of powder, contain 14 grams of fiber and 11 grams of protein. Hemp is an easily digestible source of complete protein because of its 66% edistin and 33% albumin with a bonus of having the healthy essential fatty acids (EFA). 1% of sales are donated by the manufacturer to sustainable agriculture development.

Planet friendly hemp (a non-drug crop) is grown in 33 countries without pesticides, its sturdy stalks produce clothing, rope, insulation, and many more products. Due to its versatility, the cultivation of hemp was mandated by early colonial law and both George Washington and Thomas Jefferson were hemp farmers. Hemp was also mandated during WWII for Navy vessel rope. Since hemp cuts across so many industries like clothing, paper and food production and anyone can grow it, it could represent a means of dispersing wealth evenly throughout society. Please support hemp clothing, it feels great!

But why not eating dehulled hempseeds (see my thread about this subject)? Rawfood is supposed to mean eating the whole food, and not just a part...?
And the fatfrofile of hempseed is very good and unique.

I eat both actually. It depends on WHAT I'm eating. For crackers I will do the whole seed, in smoothies I want the powder.

If I buy the seeds, can I grind them myself to make powder for smoothies. I've been eyeing some at the HFS...and wasn't sure what I wanted to buy. Hulled seeds??? or powder??? or whole seeds, if there is such a thing??

Yes, these seeds in the link are dehulled. I live in the Netherlands so I buy another brand. Dehulled seeds are very soft to eat, and taste a little nutty.

BTW: Vegan, you are the jewelry of this board, so much helping everyone

The whole seeds can also be sprinkled into salads!

Amazing, the amount of fat removed from the seed to make the powder. I guess depending on how you want to use it....it would be better to buy both the seed and the powder, huh?

I LOOOVE hemp protein powder.... it really agrees with me and I can tear through a canister in like 2 weeks, lol. Something about it just really works for me.

Plus I just love to support the hemp movement and general...and Nutiva donates 1% of their profits to hemp activism, so that is really cool.

I love hemp and try to use products containing it for ecological reasons as much as the health ones.

I use Nutiva hemp powder in smoothies, whole seeds in salads and Living Harvest vanilla hemp milk in smoothies/coffee.

I'm extremely lazy and finding the Living Harvest milk was a HUGE score. I'd been using Diamond's unsweetened almond milk, but, not really liking it.

The hemp stuff is fantastic

I just bought some Living Harvest Protein powder. I'm going to put it in a smoothie and give it a try. I only bought a small bag...it was all they had in the green container. They also had another kind that was vanilla (I think) flavored. Maybe I'll give it a try next time. It was several $$$ cheaper than buying online and paying for shipping. I'll let ya'll know how it goes.

My smoothie consisted of:
whole blender of spinach
1 cup of water (next time I will use 1/2 cup...as smoothie was WAY too large for me)
2 bananas...will only have to use 1 next time for thickening
1 cup blueberries
2 TBS hemp powder
1 TBS ground flax

Yummy...I added flax after everything was ground up...I thought it still needed some thickening...and flax is SOOO needed in my diet!

Thanks for the help!
