View Full Version : Entertaining SAD guests...

Well, this was the first weekend that I actually fed two different couples at our house who are SAD eaters. I kept feeling like I had to "explain" what we were eating, even though it was normal to me. Salad with avocado, tomatoes, homemade dressing. Some "hummus" dip with carrots and brocolli. Almond milk for the kids. I even made ice cream for them and i think they enjoyed it! I felt better knowing that I am giving people REAL food that will nourish them and make them feel GOOD!
Then right before they left my friend said to me: "we'll have to grill at the park next weekend...we'll throw some portobellos on the grill for you or something" Hmmm...guess she didn't get the "RAW" part of my eating now. :) sometimes even vegan is so foreign to people, it is like they can't get beyond that.
i'm tired though after entertaining SAD eaters and having to explain everything. i'm going to be eating VERY simply this week!

I don't Eloberate on it. Just bring a dish yourself. And YES......They just don't get it. And they won't leave you alone either......

I don't explain anything (unless I'm politely asked in private...one-on-one). Just being who are are........people aren't blind.....they get the message. That's how they judge you anyway....by your results....who you ARE.

Very good advice.
For me, I think SAD potlucks are easy...I bring my own dish and mainly eat that and salad. Having people in my home is different though, especially b/c my husband (and therefore, my kids) still eat mostly vegetarian but not raw. but when i make the food, it is all living and raw. :)

what a social disaster! :p
for those who oppose us and our ideals....
I find myself explaining it to people, but I think I am getting some good feedback also.
I've inspired one of my girlfirends to try raw and in 2 weeks we are doing the farmer's market and we are going to bring her sisters too and have a Raw Food Feast!!!
Also my Mom and Dad now are into juicing a lot. They are still SAD but I am happy to hear they have made a better choice and they notice a difference.
I send her recipes of all sorts... and especially the Raw chocolate milk for my niece. Get her off that nasty stuff!!
When I go to visit them this year.... I definitely plan on taking over in the kitchen :D

i THINK so. I think i was very self-conscious about what i was putting out there to eat. One of the couples I did not know well at all (was showing them around the area b/c they are moving here soon...they were friends of a friend of mine from the midwest), so that was kind of wierd. The other family we know fairly well, so I could be more open with them and talk more about why I make things the way I do, how I feel better eating this way, etc. The meals were nothing fancy though... next time hopefully I'll have more time to plan (these were rather unexpected) and I'll make lasagna or pizza or something deliciously amazingly yummy and living!
