Hello from Northern California. I have been playing around with a bunch of recipies from Alissa's book for the last 2 or 3 months. I really want to go 100% raw but have been going back and forth between raw and cooked.

I've been reviewing the site and forum and gathered alot of good, supportive information and the camaraderie is awesome. I will need support as I move forward as I don't have much support from friends. They think raw is weird but that is because they are not informed and they aren't really interested. I have tried to recruit at least one friend to take this journey with me but no go. I think with this forum I may have found my support.

I would appreciate anyone weighing-in on the importance of a dehydrator to this process? I use the juicer, vita-mix blender but I don't have the dehydrator. I'm wondering if part of the reason I haven't gone 100% is because I don't have crackers, vege burgers, etc., things that can be prepared with the dehydrator.

Thanks for your feedback.

P.S. I found Cherimoya's today at the local farmer's market for $3.99lb. Anyone know if that is a decent price? It tastes great.

Sactown, as far as dehydrating goes, (and others may not agree,) but I personally think it just depends on what your tastes are! If you feel like you want to try dehydrating some stuff to make deserts, or burgers or wraps or whatever, do it! If not, that's fine too. The most important thing is to just have fun.

Oh, I agree! First off - welcome! YOU choose how you want your raw lifestyle/diet to be. Gourmet or simple? If it's easier to keep it simple, then by all means, do it. If you feel you are missing the burgers, crackers, pizza and all, then do a dehydrator. I go back and forth. Some weeks it's gourmet baby, other weeks it's simple. I actually listen to my body. With winter behind me, I feel it will be more simple as the summer months come along and lighter foods are required.
As far as your non commitment to 100% raw? Well, only YOU can answer that. What are you eating that's SAD? If you want to (sort of) mimic them and a dehydrator is required to do that, then yeah, I guess you'll need to get one. Does anyone have one you could borrow?
Do you have Alissa's book? THAT is a wonderful tool for your raw journey.
Once again. Welcome and have fun!

Thanks for responding!

I have been a Chocolate, sweet addict for years. That is where I have done my damage. I could care less about breads, potatoes, fast food.

I don't know anyone who has a dehydrator but I'm going to investigate further.

I do have Alissa's book and that is super helpful. I've tried numerous recipes, and some I have enjoyed and a couple, not so much. It is time however, for me to realize that my taste buds have to change.

Hey! Me too! I still have chocolate, in fact almost daily. The only difference is that it is raw, not the processed, empty, sugar-laden SAD/CRAP I was eating before. I feel more satisfied eating the filling, healthy, living versions of foods now. One thing? You surely will not be deprived of any flavor, crunch, sensation or need in eating raw!

That is so true veganforlife! Sactown, listen to that: Anything you want you can pretty much mimic only with raw and living foods!

Yep, but don't expect it to taste JUST like SAD/CRAP. It won't.
It tastes better. It taste REALLY better!
