Okay...
Never tried Ginger before. Want to. How the heck do you eat this? Just as is? Chop it up? Cut off a piece put into a smoothie? Or just bite and chew? I have no juicer, don't juice. So that's outta the questions. I have a vitaMix tho. I would like to know an easy way to consume. LOL. How much should one consume? I have heard it is a stong herb!

Duh Me!

I peel off the skin and grate it and make salad dressing with it. I also mix it in with marinated kale, spianch, and other veggies. I used to make ginger tea, it was a good appetite supressant. Don't use too much, it's quite strong. And don't take a huge bite and try to eat it!

Thanks.

What about poppin some in a green smoothie? Just 1 piece? Small piece? What does it even taste like if you put it in a salad? Again how much do you use? lol... I hate this stage of asking. LOL.. I wanna know ... Smile

I personally chop it up into little pieces and freeze it in a bag, then take it out chunk by chunk to juice with carrots. Since you don't have a juicer, if you're going to put it in with a Vita-Mix blend, I'd grate it first. sometimes I grate it, put it in a cotton tea bag and squeeze the juice out since it just takes a few drops or just squeeze it out between my fingers. Worth experimenting with; it's a magical piece of food; I'm pretty reliant on it for it's immune help since garlic is too strong for me now.

1. If you can handle it (has a BITE) chew a little every day - so good for you
2. chopped and allowed to steep in warm water, drank as a tea
3. In salads when you want to give them a little flair
4. In veggie wraps
5. "stir frys" (with marinated and shredded carrots, cabbage, onions, etc)
6. used some for cookies (almond cookies-threw in some grated fresh ginger)
7. great to experiment with in salad dressings, made a honey mustard ginger dressing

I peel off the edges, then cut it into tiny little pieces like I would do with garlic, then I toss it into lots of smoothies and recipes I put in the food processor. I think it adds a funny but nice little kick to guac.

It's SPICY but not like onions!

Be very careful if you put it in a smoothie to only put a very small amount in. I once ruined a whole batch of fresh juice not realizing that it was so strong. I kept having to juice more and more fruit to get rid of the strongness of the ginger and I never really got it right. It can be very overpowering.

Gotta agree here with being careful with the amount of ginger. I read that you should use a "knuckle sized piece". Well, guess I misjudged the amount, and added about a three inch piece. I took a sip, and I think my eyebrows melted off. (They have since grown back ;) )!

It definately has an "unusual" flavor, but it grows on you. Just be careful!

and i drink off of it all through the day.
It's not a strong taste and it helps me drink water throughout the day.
Now i seem to crave the taste of ginger water:D

what a great idea, I'm going to give that a try.. I'm getting tired of lemon water! you can also make cucumber water too that's nice and refreshing, especially in the summer time! thanks!

I have always wondered about ginger. I juiced a small chunk of it once for my green lemonade and I loved it. The next day I put in 2 small chunks, and yuck, had to throw it away.

Here is my question though, I know that the ginger that they give you at sushi restaurants is not raw- but why is it pinkish whiteish and in slices? I mean, I am looking at my chunk of ginger root and am wondering how that gets pink slices out of this bark of tree?

Also, when I use to go to these restaurants I could eat slices and slices of ginger. Is this stuff the same thing as the ginger root you pick up in the grocery store???

Thanks!!

So once you grate a lil, just put the rest of the big chunk of ginger into the fridgy?

Update- Okay I added 4 slices of thing grated ginger root to my smoothie. Um will that be enough to get any type of overall benefit from the root? just for general health? Just wondering!

I juice it everyday with carrots and apples and all sorts of stuff , I always put it through the juicer 1st, about a 1 inch piece skin and all. I put it in the food processor with garlic and honey and make a ginger dressing with sesame seeds. I also let it steep in warm water with my tea bag :) p.s. I never skin it. I eat it everyday.
