I am so glad to be here! I really need your input to keep me on the road. I am turning to raw food because it is easier for me to keep kosher this way and to get my health back.

I am so glad to be here with all of you.

Shalom,

Welcome!

I can appreciate your wanting to eat raw for a less complicated kitchen. My in-laws keep kosher, and this "goy gal" is anxious every time she goes into their kitchen for a snack for fear of using the wrong this or that. :o

Shalom Bubby!

I came from a Kosher home myself. The great thing about being raw vegan is you don't have to look for the K's on everything!

Welcome to you and congratulations on your wonderful journey.

Baruch HaShem!

Hey Dot - watch that silverware! Use the wrong fork and you'll have to bury it all the way to china! LOL

:D No lie, Sharon! Whenever we visit, I usually just eat whatever someone else is having and let them fix it for me! Although, next time we go to visit, it's going to be really easy for me, as all I'll need is the fruit basket. :)

Which will be a bonus in another sense, as my mother-in-law unfortunately loves to create new dishes and is NOT a good cook. One of her favorites to make is chicken breasts with stuffing containing canned corn and sweetened dried cranberries...baked for FOUR HOURS until the chicken chews about as easily as beef jerky. ::::shudder:::::::

I know just how you feel, DotfromOz. I have had my share of scares in this. Glad to be a raw foods person. :)

Thank you for making me feel so good about being here! This is going to be great and I hope that we all can learn from each other. I have been given wonderful Passover raw recipes by others. Kristin, I live in Richmond also( Northern Henrico)!

I have a question for all? Was your transition hard? easy? mixed?

Sincerely,
KosherRawFoodist :)

:) While going through my neighborhood library, I came across this wonderful book! The title? "Cooking Kosher: The Natural Way" by Jane Kinderlehrer. She either still is or was the Senior Editor at Prevention Magazine. I couldn't believe it. The recipes were perfect and I can find out how to do things better.

I wish that I could do a journal here. I don't have the capability to upload a picture of myself. I started eating raw on 16 March 2005 and I have notice some changes going on with me.

Is it alright to eat a cereal known as Ezekiel 4:9? It is sprouted cereal and I have some alsmond milk that I wanted to use up? Is it alright to eat it or throw it away? I have to have all of the breads out of the house before Passover anyway. Any suggestions?

Sincerely,
Bat Tziyon

SALAM

Kosher is king.

I found that by eating Vegetarian ( i haven't made it to raw yet), it easy to always eat halal ( islamic equivalent of kosher) even when I use to eat meat I would get it from Kosher food marts or from Omish farmers. So I can appreciate your efforts.

Best wishes on your healthful journey!

SALAM ;)

Brad,

I think the VA Beach Organic Food Depot is going to have an off-shoot on your side of the water in the not-too-distant future.

You can check them out at www.organicfooddepot.com.

They're adding one in Norfolk, but no word about on the Penincula yet. They produce quality is so-so. But if they add one on this side it would be good enough for me and I would certainly try out more of it. It's nice to know places like that are growing though. Hopefully it won't be long until one of the large organic grocery's comes into town.

Brad,

The VA Beach Organic Food Depot told me that there was a franchise popping up on the other side of the water later this year. I thought they said in NN but it might have been Portsmouth. (Since I am still new to the area, I am not sure if that is any closer to you but I thought I'd let you know.)

As far as their produce goes, sometimes it is hit or miss but most times it is better than what H-T offers, and even TJ's. This is one of those instances when I do miss living in California because I was able to find it in abundance there.

Not Kosher, but am always interested in something I haven't tried before.
