I just came up with the most brilliant idea and am so excited about it!!!

I own quite a few dvd's about health and wellness... "supersize me" "go further" "breakthrough" etc...etc...

and I think I'm going to start hosting film viewings in my home over the summer....

showing these great films and serving raw snacks and treats during them so people will be coming over mostly for the films, but when they try the raw food they'll get curious about that too...

if YOU were hosting a party for about 6 or 7, what raw treats would you make? I'd like things that are simple but delicious!!! yay!

thanks!

How about the raw deviled egg "egg-less" spread and lots of crispy, yummy veggies?

RPs brownies?

Alissa's pizza?

I've been thinking about a similar thing with a women's group I've been working on. I was thinking of things that would be really hard for someone to say "yuck" about.

a) loads of fresh fruits combinations
b) lots of veggies with dip/dressings (you could maybe put the dressings/dips in little individual serving cups so that they could sample more than one if they liked)
c) definitely the pizza (mini-veggie pizzas, also make "bread sticks" with a dipping sauce)
d)fajitas (beter yet mini-sized samples of a variety of enchiladas)
e) oatmeal cookies
f) that strawberry cheesecake recipe someone posted the other day (I think crisyn) looks good
g)someone posted "easter chocolate a while back; seems like a lot of people like chocolate
e) you could even do ice cream samples
f) chips and dip (guacamole); corn chips, variety of flax seeds
6) veggie wraps filled with lettuce, tomato, onion, sprouts, avo-sauce

I could go on and on but these are some things I've been thinking about because they are simple and cheaper than it would be to make some of the other dishes I was thinking about.

Wonderful idea! And you are getting great posts for food ideas too. I just wanted to mention that we did this about 20 years ago when I first went vegetarian/vegan and we had a blast! We'd invite people to view a movie (can't even remember what we would show back then but they were veggie based) and turned it into a vegetarian potluck at the same time. Thanks for posting this, it brings back some really great memories of the get togethers we used to have and have a great time with it!

the macaroons from Pure Food & Wine are easy and inexoensive to make, but people always think they're ooh-ahh-worthy. Yummy!

Great idea BTW!

If you are gonna promo your new biz, you can put something like this on a lot of papers' and periodicals' community calenders as a free event...at no cost to you! check your local newpapers, health food store newsletters and such!

good luck!

I HOST MOVIES IN MY HOME, IT'S GREAT FUN!

Yes, you got the idea: PERFECT for advertising!

I make MINI-enchiladas (very crossover friendly)

Or mini pizza slices (my 7" pizzas make 8 cute slices, like1.5" by 3")

OR MAKE FINGER SANDWICHES! SOOOO EASY AND SOOO IMPRESSIVE!

Crackers are great, too. :-)

Mini crepes from Alissa's book....

I would make some of Vanessa Sherwood's Vietnamese Bananas, cut them in bite size pieces, stick a toothpick in each and in the middle have her coconut cream to dip them in.

They are really yummy. I was thinking of doing them like this cuz they are sooo rich if you eat one whole banana, but pop a couple of em as hor dourves, deelish!

The recipe is on the Gliving network.

I'm hosting a large stag/stagette party tonight, and among the typical SAD party foods, I made a bunch of raw finger foods too. Some of the things I made....
- Zucchini lasagna rolls - I used the tomato sauce, ricotta and pesto from the lasagna recipe in Raw Food Real World, and then spread each out on long (really thin) slices of zucchini. I got the idea from What the Hell does a Vegan Eat Anyway? (http://www.flickr.com/photos/tofu/5367155/in/set-1282381/) (Really easy, but they look and taste wonderful.)
- Mini strawberry cheesecakes - I used the same recipe posted a few days ago and added a little extra cacao butter to both the base and the filling make them firmer. I used mini cupcake pans, and just pressed the base into the bottom, not up the sides. Then I made a very thick jam with strawberries and dates and put a tiny dollop of the center of each.
- Mini fruit tarts - recipe here (http://gliving.tv/greenchefs/indulge/fruit-tart/). I used kiwi and strawberries on the top.
- Caramel Banana Tarts - I was inspired by Trotter's recipe in RAW (found here (http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/recipe_views/views/231404)), but I used the same chocolate bases as the mini fruit tarts above.
- Mini carrot cupcakes - I used my carrot cake recipe, (http://www.goneraw.com/recipes/202-Carrot-Cake) but dehydrated it in tiny little balls for about half the time, then pressed the balls into tiny cupcake liners to finish dehydrating. Then I frosted them with the rich coconut frosting from Rainbow Green Live-Food Cuisine. I also dehydrated round slices of pineapple to look like flowers (directions here (http://www.axis-of-aevil.net/archives/2006/03/hummingbird_cake.html)) and put them on top.
- Big bowls of salsa and guacamole (with SAD tortilla chips, but you could make your own).
- Chili-honey Almonds and Cashews - from a recipe from Raw Food Real World

Hope this helps a little.

Yup, I LOVE those pineapple flowers too! So easy, but so amazing. I originally got the idea from a Martha Stewart show, although she didn't use flower-shaped cookie cutters the way the link above does. They still look cool without the extra cookie cutter step, but soooo professional if you do take the time. I've made them a few times, and most people don't know they are pineapple until I tell them.
I will definitely post pictures later - it will be a busy weekend for me, but I'll get them up soon!
Carmella, I didn't realize you were in BC too! You literally could just pop over!

how did you like breakthrough and go further? i've been thinking about buying them but don't know if they're worth it...

how did you like breakthrough and go further? i've been thinking about buying them but don't know if they're worth it...

go further is awesome.. I bought the book as well. It's funny and covers a lot of ground as far as different issues (environment/food/etc)... and well, I just really like woody harrelson.

breakthrough was good as well.. it definitely has more of a "home movie" quality to it but I enjoyed seeing storm and jinjee family and hearing their personal stories of friends and relatives and their health struggles.

they're both really different but good. If you're looking for more raw food/nutrition go for the breakthrough video.. and just an overall good movie about healthy living get go further. :)
