I like the extra energy, don't get me wrong. But lately I am refreshed after 3-4 hours of sleep. Leaves alot of extra time to...well....do what? I get my work done. See some clients. Write a little. And then??? Even if I work out two hours a day...Soooo much time..,.especially in the wee hours while everyone else is sleeping.
Guess I;d better beef up my reading list or knit a sweater or something.
What have you guys found yourselves doing with all your extra raw horsepower?

Just catching up on all that "stuff" that I either didn't feel like doing or wasted my time in not doing. DON'T make mine stop! I love it!

Inspiring to hear that it could be in my future if I can make it through the dark valley of detoxing.

Oh yeah! Good things come to those who wait. You WILL have a ton of energy once you detox and commit to being raw. I am 100% and I truly agree with Alissa, although not everyone does, but I truly feel when your body has to constantly work to digest cooked/SAD/CRAP foods, it uses A LOT of energy. Mine? I'm fueling it with fresh, wholesome, living foods full of enzymes, so my body is reacting how it should. Giving me tons of energy. It just makes sense. You eat cooked/SAD/CRAP foods void of all enzymes, your body has to tap into ITs resource and will make you tired and lethargic.
Just wait. You'll get that energy soon.

I have begun working on a couple of books. One is a semi-autobiographical portrait of untimely deaths, murders, and participants in organized crime...That one may be more abstract and may even be geared toward poetry...we'll see...it's all pretty stream of consciousnees at the moment. The other is a guided activity book/journal for workshops. Always put it off "until I have time" and now I have a surplus to work with. Yay!
I should use more of the time for doing my closets up california close style, but the rest of the house is asleep, and I dare not intrude! lol.
Any of you diving into long-negleced creative pursuits?

One word:
Taekwondo.
Or three, depends on how you write it.
There's also kick-boxing, running, biking. Any kind of hard cardio.

Hang in! Once you're all cleaned out you will feel like someone gave you the energy of a five year old kid who is constantly on the verge of doing cartwheels down the sidewalk.

yeah- I have been all over the boost in cardio. Took a loverly 3 hour bike ride the other day. I have decided to change gyms just so I can work out late night if I'm bored. I live next to a park, so I should just buy some mace and get into midnight jogging...or take taekwondo!
I'm excited for the warm weather to become more consistant so I can spend more time out of doors. Planning a 50 miles charoty bike ride...and if the ol' knees cooperate, I 'd like to challenge myself with a couple of 10k's.
I'm sure if I lived in your neck of the woods, I would just want to pitch a tent all summer and stay in the forest until the first snowfall!

Nice to see an ENERGY thread.
What to do with all that energy?
Been there, done that, still doing it.
Remember the Monkey is responding.
Your house should be spotless (I'm into cleaning)
Get involved in a community group
Take some time just to reflect on your life, your family, and see what's really important
Call your Mom
Have lunch with an old pal
Get your work done so on Friday you can slack off
Plan a 2 day trip to a major city and explore. (Just back from Philadelphia)
Try to figure out what Misslinda is all about
Update your TV package to include all Red Sox games

I think that is awesome!!!!
How old are you? Do you have children yet? Are you finished with all the schooling you want to have? Write a book... you could do that quietly while everyone sleeps...you are eloquent and intelligent I bet it would be fab!
Seriously!
I wish I went raw before I had kids... when they were infants for the 2 yrs I nursed both of them I felt like a zombie. Now I can't wait to have the energy to physically keep up with them...not there yet still detoxing and losing wt.. Thanks for the hope...I look forward to joining you in the land of abundant energy!;)

YAAAAA!!!!!!
Me too!!! Kids are 25 months apart, and nursed each for 18 months, so I was either pregnant or nursing (or both) for about 4.5 years! I really feel like I never recovered. They are almost 6 and 8 now. Wow! That's a wake-up call, huh.
Still struggling to be 100%, but when I am, I just LEAP outta bed.
What to do with all of this energy I will have???
I will write a book, start running and biking, bikram yoga, tai chi, have more parties :-) and take more trips with the kids.

Getting certified in Eastburns method of hypnofertility treatments.
More hypno-oncology training
Hosting a supprt group for body image issues.
Hosting another support group for people with life0 changing illness

I didn't even think about waking up after 4 hours having anything to do with the raw food. I thought I was just having trouble sleeping the last 2 nights. Upon reflection, I realize now that I did awaken fully alert and rested. I have been 100% raw for 8 days and am finding out so much from all the posts each day. Could some of you recommend green powder brands. Currently I am using "Garden Of Life" for my soothies, but think there must be something with even more beneficial ingrediants. Thanks in advance.
I too wish I had you problem. Even with having to sleep less, I still don't have enough hours in the day. I guess having a job, raising children, housework, etc. keeps me busy. I have however, added some exercise into my schedule but at the expense of other things not getting done.
I think you should try perfecting all of the raw recipes in Alissa's book. That is one complaint of mine. I never seem to have enough time to explore new recipes.
Its funny either you have a ton of time or you have money and no time.

YES! I went through a period for about a month just like what you are describing. I was incredible bored late at night. I picked up some sewing projects, read A LOT and did research (one of my favorite things to do... but does NOT help you sleep) on the computer.
Working out is a good idea... although that doesn't really help you sleep either, does it?
Just enjoy it and try to use it. Reading is a great relaxing thing to do when you can't sleep.
I read Still Life With Woodpecker and Skinny Legs and All by Tom Robbins during my insomnia month. GOOD books... I highly recommend him.
However, I went on a two weed SAD run and now I'm just getting back in the game - I havn't gotten my energy back yet. I'm doing a bit of a cleanse with very little sugar and fat... well very little food now (it's kind of depressing... but will be well worth it in the end) so I don't expect to have a ton of energy. But I am assuming once I am back to a normal raw diet I will be right back in those sleepless shoes.
Have fun with it! LOL ... I was cracking up reading your post. Sounds so familiar!

I live with my son, Dil and 2 grandchildren. Things were kind of left as far as cleaning and such goes. DIL hates cleaning and I was not doing a lot of it but I find now I do more. I have not been Raw for long but before Raw i was doing almost nothing but Vegan. Not intentionally but to clear up my psoriasis.
I feel that surge of energy quite often. My joints r not used to it yet so i do get sore muscles and joints but it only last until i get back up and start moving.
I have more energy than anyone else in the house and so i am getting things done that no one else is doing. So here is my list.Just a short one for now.
Stacking wood
Raking yard
taking old shelves out of greenhouse and putting in new.
cleaning house
sewing for grandaughter
walking with dogs
And just plaing running around here and there. the good thing is I love it and I do have the energy to do it. I can only guess that once my body is healed that i will have more energy and wont know what to do with it all. In 1995 i had a strange thing happen. All at once. I was hyperthyroidal, mitral valve with high blood pressure and i lost a lot of strength in leg muscles. If i sat on anything without arms i could not get up with out hubbies help. Since eating vegan and now Raw i dont need anyones help. I can get down on the floor and get back up which is amazing. My thyroid has been radiated so i dont know if that will ever get better but somone mentioned how it does not kill it all so maybe one day i can go off medication like i did the blood pressure one.
I also dont sleep as long as I used to so here I am at 4 in the morning. :D

I've been using Dr. Shulze's Superfood Plus.

I would..
READ! I would definitly catch up on all the classics, plays and movies. Study history and antropology to make my characters more alive and act better. (even if wasn't an actress I'd read, I mean, just having read war and peace, wuthering heights, tale of two cities, the tennessee williams plays, the shakespeare sonettes.. what a wonderful perspective on humanity one would have)
MOVE! I would clean out a room and have my own little studio where I could dance, make coreography, do yoga...
LEARN! I'd get a diy language course and catch up on my french and my chineese... Or I'd learn how to play the piano (ok, that's not a good one in the middle of the night, but a dream of mine none the less).
Less brainy activities to engage in at night: knitting, cooking, walking, talking, working, meditating, writing, painting, cleaning, baking, ironing...

Oh, I am so excited to get to the point where i have all that raw energy! I would do so much! Knitting and writing, and reading all those books that I keep procrastinating on! See it as a blessing. You have all this time to do whatever you need or want.

I just wanted to post....I'm starting to get my house organized!! Waking up with DH at 4...and starting laundry...that is one thing I can do while the kids sleep! Our house is small, and houseCLEANING would wake them, but the washing machine is "quiet" noise, so I wash, dry, and fold, etc. while they sleep in the wee hours.
I also am into reading....find a good series to read
I also journal and give myself time to wake up and think about my day!
Peace,
Wendi

Some things I'd like to do or am doing now.
Skate and teach advance skating to others.
Take a singing course
Take up my flute playing and get better at it.
Read. Collect a library of books and read when everyone else is asleep.
Write a book or poem.
Call Mommy and Daddy.
Call my Brother. call my friends.
Take my boys to the gym and work out with them, then go again with DH when he gets home from work, then again at night.
Help others to enjoy this gift of life thru raw foodism.
pray and do more Bible studies at our house. We already are doing one, but I would love to open my home more to those I love so dearly.
Read the forums.
Praise God that I have this abundant energy!
Learn. Learn about everything I am interested in.
Bake and cook for my friends and family, whilst I eat my raw versions!LOL i still love to bake and cook, but healthy stuff.
Make new friends and spend time with them.
Take dancing lessons.
Take gymnastics classes for adults.
Hike our mountain to the top. Never reached the top YET.

hypnocmt--how long were you 100% raw before you started getting all of this crazy energy?
I was 100% raw for 30 days and felt tired all the time. Never experienced the energy boost unfortunately. Some said I would just have to wait it out ... another six months. But that's just not possible in my current life.
Right now I'm 6 days after having stopped 100% raw. I'm trying to maintain the "raw until dinner" philosophy and am holding around 60% committed at this point to that goal, but it's so easy to slip back into non-raw foods. :) My hope is that by maintaining a "high raw" diet it will be easier to shift into 100% raw again in the future.
I know exactly what I would do if I slept only four hours/night: I'd read a ton (I have a massive stack of unread books) and I'd meditate probably for at least an hour. I'd work my way through my Blockbuster queue much faster too. :P
It's so sad I never got my energy boost, in hindsight. I unfortunately harbor this thought that everyone claiming to have all this energy is lying, or they are at least exaggerating these claims.

I dont think people are lying I just think everyones healing time is different. I have thyroid issues as well as a lot of stress so I could sleep 24/7 pee, drink water go back to bed. I hope this too changes for me by my 3-4 month mark 100% raw.

hypnocmt
03-29-2007, 05:57 PM
Unlike caffeine/sugar FAKE energy, the raw diet energy doesn't actually FEEL like anything; it just IS.
You suddenly realize that you have no desire/need to take the 3pm nap/coffee/sugar break at work to get over the hump.
You wake up from sleep at night, fully refreshed after(in my case) 4 hours, when perhaps you used to like 7-9 hours.
You're mind is clear and clean.
Your body is unclogged, the joints feel lubed up nicely, and you want to MOVE.
You have a whirlwind of ideas. These do not come upon you like a heavy, urgent wave in the way that mania does...It's more like a quick, clean moving stream of thought.
I stay up until 2 or 3am and spring out of bed with a smile at 6 or 7. I used to hate mornings and DRAG my butt.
Hope this gives you soemthing to look forward to.
For me it happened almos immediately. However, I have been informally "high raw" for years, b/c I prefer salads and fruits to meat and potatoes. I have been eating organic since I was a teen, and have made it standard practice since I was about 20. I rely on herbal remedies and homemade food-based medicines when I get a touch of a bug. I haven't been sick in almost a decade other than an once a year headache, or perhaps a runny nose. No colds or flu. I do not "do" vaccines or antibiotics. I would if i gt some sort of deathly illness, but I seem to have an immunity advantage in terms of common flu and cold issues.
In other words the transition from veggie, mostly raw by instinct to a formal high raw diet was the difference between the occasional brown rice and steamed veggies to no rice bowls during the week, and only a little in my sushi on the weekend, and no chiken, goa cheese or croutons on my fave nightly salad. No leftovers during the day. Big deal, right?
Then the transition to super hi raw 95% (sometimes tea, sometimes a bite of rice in dolmades) to 100% raw has been somewhat easier. I experienced a slight detox in the form of a couple of red bumps on my face, a flare in psoriasis that lasted about a week- maybe less, and an interesting itchy eye thing that disappeared after 3 days..
My transition has probably been easier than some b/c I was burning pretty clean fuel to start. I also have done seasonal cleanses since I was 23. Masters cleanse a couple of times, though diet and other cleanses seemed to make that unnnecessary. Essiac to heal my gut after a rough time in childhood.
I have tried to work hard at being clean internally, so I got the raw pay -off pretty quick. If someone has been eating full on hardcore SAD, they're gona have more housecleaning to do before they get that pure-inside energy. BUT IT WILL COME. You gotta clean that SAD residue from your insides. It's cancer or some other illness waiting to happen. Fully 50% of us will have some form of cancer in our lifetimes. I intend tio be on the sunny side of that statistic. And that takes a proactive mind and behavior pattern
Stay with it and you will be clean, light, and turboed with enthusiasm for YOUR LIFE.

Wow, definitely something to look forward to! I was 100% raw for 30 days doing lots of house cleaning, but over the past week I'm around 60% raw. Your post has encouraged me to push that up towards 75% for a while longer, until I take the jump back to 95-100%. I'm looking forward to feeling that energy!

high raw is effortless.
Just eat a bunch of fruit and veggies all day.
then eat a sald with your dinner and choose one cooked item as a reward for your discipline all the rest of the day. So instead of rice and chicken. for example. make warmed cauliflower rice and chicken, or tofu. Just make most of your dinner raw veggies.
Or eat jus a salad for dinner and have a vegan cup cake for dessert.
Hi raw is sooo easy.
Awesome for you!!!
Let us know how you use your raw buzz once it arrives!:p
