For those of you who are mostly raw, what happens when you eat cooked?

What are the reactions?

complete addiction. Also very foggy headed and bloated constantly. Circles under my eyes, irritable, puffy, etc. That's only if I eat organic brown rice/brown rice products and steamed veggies. I can't imagine having SAD or animal products and waht that would do to me. YIKES!

LOL, okay I've reaad everyone else's reactions to cooked and mine is somewhat animated.

When I had that cooked vegetarian episode in August, I kid you not--according to my sister too....

I talk extremely <<< fast >>> and make no sense (this one drives me crazy)

I will move around real fast and stay up late at night doing the dishes and taking trash out etc, like someone is chasing me. She has to yell at me to shut up and stay still

I do get constipated

Tired

Then I cry :(

Well, I had only been 100% raw for a month and I had some bread over the weekend... it started with one sandwich, which set off killer cravings and resulted in me having bread another few times over the weekend. Right now I'm experiencing the aftermath - bloating, water weight gain, puffiness all over and esp. face and eyes, PAIN in my intestines, and actually all through my digestive system, like it's all swollen and inflamed on the inside - this is causing what feel like hunger pangs but I know they're not, it's inflammation, and I feel full and hungry at the same time. My mouth and throat feel sore and scalded, like I drank a too-hot drink. I'm also depressed, tired, anxious, kicking myself for eating stupid bread in the first place

edit: Forgot to mention my candida is back too. Not sure if the bread set that off, or if it was caused by eating so much fruit over the last month. I never used to eat fruit so I don't really know.

I get grumpy at my husband and feel tired. I like him and hate being grumpy at him. Gives me incentive to stay clean.

I can eat certain foods cooked and feel the same, like some steamed veggies, some warm veggie soup, but if I started to eat wheat, grains, beans , cooked potaotes, rice..see above...all that here too.

I get brain fog, feel tired, grumpy, and my stomach usually feel as if a brick is in it. The last time I ate burger king I could actually feel my fingers start to swell! I then had the worst sleep ever because I felt like a brick was in my stomach and it felt as if my arthitis was trying to come back ontop of swollen fingers. I think its good when this happens! It makes us remember how good we feel on raw!!!

Last time I had meat...my tongue started to swell...and ended up visiting the ER twice...in less than two weeks.

Whenever I eat cooked, my body let me know ()

I am not 100% raw, but a small amount of cooked food does not affect me. I just find that it feels heavy on my stomach. A little cooked food goes a long way.

I AM 100% raw and I do not even want to see what would happen eating cooked. I felt like CRAP for so many years and I do not want to feel that way again.

I feel the same as V4L. I have been 100% since Feb, and while I am still tempted but some of the lovely aromas of baked goods, I will not indulge and do not plan on it either. I feel SO good being RAW that reading everyone elses lapses and how they feel solidifies my resolution to stay that way!

I am not 100% - YET.

Steamed veggies or veggie soup is ok, but cooked anything else sends me on an emotional and physical rollercoaster ride.

Instant (I mean immediate - before I finsih swallowing) stomach pains.

Bloating, puffy and very tired - 5 mintues flat and I'm ready for a nap - I can't stay awake (especially with bread, pasta, rice, potatoes).

Then, I'm totally emotional for days. I cry, I snap at hubby for absolutely nothing, and I get very short with the boys.

I can *see* myself doing it.

Seems like a good reason to not ever eat that again, huh?

This part is funny, MissLinda :). I got like that once and it was consuming raw cacao that did it, and had nothing to do with cooked foods. It was like a shot of espresso after not having it in years or something similar.
I was up later that night, eyes w_i_d_e open.
At least I got lots of house cleaning done :D And you did too!

eyes glazed and cloudy, bloodshot sometimes. my skin(face) gets dull, puffy, inflammed and hot. it's not pretty. if i eat cooked then look in the mirror the next morning, or even a few hours later, meh. NOT PRETTY

i get super super thirsty and crave COLD water.

gut-rot the next morning.

When I eat SAD, which happens often as I will be raw for a month and then will go off for a few days. I get bad cravings for awful food. Terrible bloating and stomach pains. Fogginess, cystic acne, unusual weight gain (like 10 lbs in a week) irritable to my husband, small or no elimination, no sexual desire, and depression.

It's raw for me all the way.

Isn't it interesting how astoundingly fast the weight comes back on with a SAD slip?

When I slipped up I didn't have any problems. But I slipped up on veggies and oatmeal so maybe thats why I felt fine. I did feel guilty though.

I have been 100% raw for 2 days! Who hooo! :) I kept changing my mind as to whether I felt like I should be fasting, drinking green smoothies or just eating raw. I realized I was letting myself fall into the same strict guidelines-messing up-guilt circle that I have been straining over with cooked food and I refuse to let those kind of habits ruin my love for raw food. So, I've been focusing only on eating all raw, drinking lots of water and exercising and am much happier already.
Even when I'm not 100%, I realize when I eat cooked food I feel heavy, bloated, tired and irritable. Especially breads. Due to health concerns I had before, I consume absolutely no dairy. I made the mistake of having a fruit smoothie with soy milk in it about a week ago and got queasy stomach/ really loose BM immediately. Ugh.
I don't know if you're asking b/c you're debating having just a little cooked or what...but I do know that every time you have to make a decision about food and you make the decision to stay raw, you get stronger and you feel better and better about yourself as a whole.
Health and happiness in whatever you do!!!!

I've been practicing eating Raw since last summer and it really does get easier and better, just a natural part of my life. I find I actually want a Raw meal over cooked now. The slip-ups are less often and not as long and it's more of a welcomed relief, and this is coming from a serious junkfood junky. It's doable!

morningruby,

You are espousing a really good thought process by not holding on to the guilt cycle of standard diets which encourage calorie counting and strict protocol.
"Guilt" should never, play a role in pursuit of optimal nutrition (veganism and the ethics are a different subject).

If you eat something you know is not good for you, ask yourself, "why?" figure it out, and don't do it again: Accept the decision you made and then use it to your advantage; don't use it to bring you down:

"Just eat raw" is a good mantra; it is applied uniquely to each individual. Some do well on such-and-such; others on this-'n'-that; but staying raw, 100% or high-raw, if that's your goal, is doable.

Best,

Honestly, the 2-3 times I've eaten a cooked meal in the past few months, I have not felt bad at all. I did, however, notice that it doesn't taste as good and that I can't eat as much. I get full really fast now when eating cooked food. ANd I'm beginning to crave raw food over cooked, so that is a good thing!

When I have eaten some cooked vegan food I didn't notice a huge difference. It seemed to vary how I felt after a few times eating similar things (a little quinoa, steamed veggies), sometimes absolutly fine, and sometimes a bit bloated and tired. I do notice more of "my cooked food face" in the morning, and more mucous congestion.

I was 100% raw with not one bite of cooked food for over a year prior to this. To be completely honest, I feel a little bit more grounded and balanced eating a high raw diet. I'm ready to let the cooked go again, I just need to look at how I can eat all raw and feel balanced.

i ate a candied pecan the other day and my mouth started to burn. also once i had the candied or pickled or whatever beets at the salad bar at ruby teusdays and had probly 4 ladles of their balsammic vinegar, all of which arent raw; i was so weak adn tired i could barely lift my arms in the shower to wash my face. i woke up the next day and it felt like i had a hangover... other than that i have used everyone here for inspiration NOT to eat cooked food cuz i know what will happen. everyone else suffered so i dont have to.:D

One day I was at a party, long story short, nice lady who didn't speak much English forced me into eating a "good" chicken fried thing... I ended up with some gnarly BMs and I felt the same as rawsurfer the next day, like I had a hangover. It was a bad scene. I'm NOT craving the cooked stuff at all these days, and I'm looking forward to continued feeling good! :)

For me the effect is almost instantanious. I have a hot flash. This if followed by a disrupted night sleep as all my menopause symptoms return.

I was 100% raw for 30 days and celebrated my accomplishment with sushi. Normally some rolls can't be too bad with raw ingredients + rice, but of course I opted for the variants with fried shrimp inside and cream cheese as well. I also had fried calamari for an appetizer. A few bites into the appetizer, I asked my gf if it tasted good since I couldn't detect much flavor, and she said it tasted fine. But I opted to eat the salad component that was decorating the calamari. Much tastier. :P

I stopped eating about half way through the sushi and felt really ill, like majorly bloated or like a bomb had gone off in my stomach. Been on/off raw since then (10 days ago).

I guess I can summarize my feelings in that the food didn't taste as good as it used to before I went raw. After having been raw for 30 days, cooked food just didn't feel as alive (probably because it's dead).

ok so I'm new at being raw, and admittedly have had a couple of cooked things, like salad dressing and I had a meal of black beans and brown rice. So anyway I'm 2 weeks into my transformation..and this weekend my so is over to the house..we decide to go and get pizza for the kids...so we get to the pizza joint and I decide, like an idiot to order a veggie philly(veggies, cheese and bread like a philly without the meat). I'm thinking it won't bother me..WRONG!..about an hour after I ate it my stomach started to hurt, not only did it hurt but I was sooo bloated. I hope to NEVER experience this again.

a cooked food meal = hangover

your body will need time to recoup and heal.

i don't like hangovers... so i don't drink or eat cooked.

Hi there,

I haven't eaten a single bite of cooked food in a couple of years but I do remember that the last time that I did eat a cooked meal (it was even a "healthy" vegan meal) after being mostly raw for a year or so I got extremely sick with my fibromyalgia symptoms coming back and then a flu-like/throat infection type of sickness that lasted for a week. I was miserable after feeling so good for so long. It was sooooo not worth it! :-) Raw is awesome!!!

All the best,

Audrey

Well, the past couple of days I have been eating cooked after eating raw and I have this constant cough that just won't go away and I feel like I am drowning in my own mucous - sorry gross I know...

Raw is good for me baby!
