I am thinking of making my own dehydrator, a combo of solar and with a lightbulb with a fan on the back with window screens as the trays. I want to be able to put it out in the sun in the day, and in the night keep the lightbulb when I bring it in.

Has anyone done this? Any hints on keeping the temp low enough for raw?

Hmmmm... I think being in the sun you might get like a greenhouse effect and it might get too hot in there... But you can buy an oven thermometer in hardware stores/walmart, etc, and it's only a few bucks and try it out...

I'm very impressed! My only thought is that you won't be able to monitor the temp very well, if you are truly trying to keep things raw by only heating to a certain temp or below.

best of luck! it is an ambitious undertaking!

that's awesome! I love it!

Agree with the greenhouse issue re- the sun exposure..but there's gotta be a way to solve that , eh?

thermostat activated sun shade..like the top on a convertible? lol.

My thinking cap looks more like a beanie with the little propeller top.
