View Full Version : Eating cooked food after 30 days...

Hey folks,

For celebration of my 30 days on the raw diet, my gf took me out to our historically favorite sushi roll bar here in Seattle. We ordered our usual array of rolls that we used to both completely scarf down, which included my usual three rolls, fried calamari, and a large hot sake.

I noticed something was different when eating the fried calamari: it tasted bland. I asked her if it tasted the same as always, and she said yes, it tasted very nice. To me, after 30 days of eating only living foods, it tasted like it was mostly fried and had very little calamari, so I drifted my chopsticks over to the salad that was part of the calamari.

Then we started into our rolls and I began devouring them like always. At first it tasted really great, but about half way through it, I hit an eating wall and didn't want to eat anymore. For a few moments, I even felt disgusted at what was in front of me since it was so much HEAVIER than raw food. This is surprising since sushi (even though these are very fatty rolls) is still a relatively healthy food. I guess once you throw cream cheese in there and fry it, it takes away some of that health.

I suppose I couldn't finish it because I'm used to eating less volume of food, but I have to admit the taste itself just wasn't the same anymore. I even told my gf mid-meal, "This just doesn't taste as good anymore."

Now we're home, I'm feeling like I've taken drugs that have worsened my mental fog, and my gf is complaining about how sick her stomach is.

Bottom line: I think I'm going back into my raw diet tomorrow!

Why did you punish yourself for being RAW? Get back to nourishing your body with REAL food and you will feel better soon!;)

thanks for sharing that mike!

this is so true- the same thing happened to me when i was eating food from my old favorite restaurant not so long ago. the food was just overly heavy, and it didn't taste as flavorful. i felt so gross and heavy after just having a few bites. i also thought, "why am i doing this? this isn't even good!" whereas before raw, that feeling was comforting and warm- i was quite content with feeling in need of a nap after eating.

eating raw will most definitely keep you raw... as cooked foods will feel just awful... and taste not so great after a while... and raw food will reveal it's beautiful, fresh flavors.

Mike,

I have read many of your struggles and questions, but I have hesitated to respond to many of them because I am too new to know the answers. I have been hoping you would wait it out. In any case, I am not glad you are feeling not too hot, but I am glad that you have had this happen.

I hope that you can stick to a diet that will keep you healthy for many years!

Hi Mike,

I too, like Eva, have followed your progress, but as a novice refrained from responding.

I appreciate you honesty and sharing. It is a good reminder that my occasional cravings for my old cooked food favorites is based on my old taste buds, anf if eaten now they would not be as truly as satisfying as I once thought they were.

Thanks,

Elena

I love this! That is the truth! Why would you ever wanna go back? Back to SAD/CRAP?

Shafer...Shafer...Shafer....,

Dude ,listen up.

Celebrate your 30 days raw by continuing your raw journey, not by eating cooked.

Instead of going out for cooked food , why don't you uncook for your girlfriend at your place. It's perfect. The ladies love when the boys cook/ uncook. Bottle of wine, maybe 2 bottles of wine.

Trust me....once you start that cooked food thing ever few weeks (to celebrate) you'll fall off and I'll see you at the "all you can eat buffet".

This is the Monkeyboy talking.

I'm glad you did this, it was a great learning experience. Thank goodness you didn't get really sick afterwards as many people do.

I remember reading how Victoria and Igor Boutenko celebrated their anniversary at their favorite seafood restaraunt after being 100% raw for many months. They both got swelled up and had hives, and couldn't understand why all the others could tolerate it.

The cleaner your body becomes, the less it can handle polluted food.

Good points, although sometimes you have to experience negative consequences to remind you what is right and wrong. You appreciate and look at things in a whole different light. When I go off of raw, it just makes me want to eat raw that much more. I look at it in a positive light when I mess up. Makes me think twice before I eat cooked.

I guess I am too scared to eat anything cooked. I felt SO BAD for SO LONG that I don't want to eat cooked ever, ever again. And I won't. All my needs are satisfied. I ask my SAD friends, "Do you all eat chocolate every day?" They look at me in horror. No is the answers. "Well. I can if I want to and some days I'll have two times!"
I'm just too dern scared to eat anything cooked. Besides that - it just doesn't appeal to me anymore.

.

I did not know they did that!! LOL.. I do not feel so bad now..
I will just learn from my "rewarding" myself for fasting..and get on with fasting/eating Raw...

Who first said that nothing "cooked" tastes as good as "Raw" feels...

so very true!!!

i have a little over 3 weeks but still here it goes.. only after 5 days or so of rawness i ate at a salad bar and used copious amounts of dressing and had some pickled beets and i felt so crappy. i woke up the next day with a hangover basically. i have accidentally slipped up here and there... i kept wonderin at why cashews made me feel weird and then i discoverd that very few cashews are actually raw cuz the method to remove them from the shell is to boil them. manually husked cashews are just too expensive, so i have cut them out of my diet.

thanks everyone for suffering so i dont have to! ;) threads like this give me reasons not to nibble on that chocolate in the fridge; better yet gives me reason to order some raw chocolate!

And you're going to love that Raw Chocolate, especially Alissa's truffles! Yummy!:p

I feel the same way. When I read Mike's post it was a great reminder not to allow myself to go down that road. I have enough delicious taste sensations within the Raw Recipe World to keep me busy creating and experiencing new Alive with Flavor creations.
I admit, Every now and then I'll think that maybe for my partner's birthday when we go out to his favorite Italian restuarant, maybe I'll order or taste a little cooked food. Then again,I think not.;)

So happy to be 100% Raw today, and taking it one day at a time into the future....
