View Full Version : Do you know why eating coconut oil makes me nauseated?

This has happened every time (>30 times) in the past 1 year, ever since I first started eating coconut oil. If I eat more than 1 tbsp coconut oil, I feel very nauseated and my heart beats very fast. This lasts for 2-3 hours. I've tried various brands, and they all have the same effect. So, I don't think it's the quality of coconut oil.

I'm thinking, is it possible that I have candidas, and this is the die-off symptom? I know coconut oil is really good for killing candidas.

I'd be greatly appreciated if you can give me your thoughts on this. Thanks in advance. :)

you could go up to the banana icon and do a search on it, or maybe google (can you believe that is a verb now??) coconut oil and nausea. If you're having this consistent of a reaction, chances are somebody else has to.

Good luck!

I think this is in the wrong section. Can one of the moderators move it to 'other health issues'? Thanks...

I had a similar reaction from Artisana coconut butter. That was months to a year ago when I first ate it. I recently dug it out of the back of the fridge and once had like four-five spoons of it at a time without noticing that reaction. Just thought I would mention it. Let me know if you find out why it happens and I hope everything is alright!

I cannot explain why....BUT, It happens to me to!

I even tried mixing it with smoothies and ugh- I still love the flavor and will use it to make Raw Fudge and put a dab onto a medjool date-yummy and it does not seem to bother me. Only when I have more than a tsp.

I am anxiously awaiting an anser too!

Thanks for bringing this up ;-)

Me, Too.

If I try to eat more then a teaspoon, I gag, LOL. Yuck.

So, whenever I have it, I drink it down with a smoothie so then it doens't make by stomach upset, eaither.

Graciously,

Just a theory...

I was told long ago that Coconut oil could be used to kill off yeast(candida), but that if you kill it off too quickly, you can get yeast die-off and feel really sick. I'm not sure how much truth there is in it, but this may be why after a few months raw, you might not feel sick anymore because you have healed and no longer have candida b/c of eating raw.

Maybe because your body knows that there really isn't a coconut oil tree.

hmmmm... coconut oil is supposed to be good to help regulate the thyroid.... which also means regulate the metabolism.... i wonder then if it speeds up metabolism, particularly for those who might tend towards having hypothyroidism...?

just a thought.

Do you not use any extracted oils? That's cool... :-)

I will rarely use in a salad dressing or recipe. But I don't eat them purposely, like by the spoonful on in a daily smoothie. Better to eat the coconut itself.

ROTFL.....that thought had occurred to me;)

And yes, I have now opted for a young thai instead for my smoothies. It is very interesting.... I had a client that I train and she bought the coconut oil diet book- tried 2-3 tbsp a day- was so nauseated and shaky that she had to stop and she put on 4 lbs in 2 weeks:eek:

Still love it in the RAW fudge that I indulge once a month!

Another poster mentioned about the thyroid and I am HYPOthyroid??? Very interesting- just know I can't take it therapeutically- no matter what the"research" shows.

Thanks to everyone that replied. I've heard about the theory Rawmommie mentioned. But I've been mostly raw for about a year, and my acne is almost clear. So, I thought maybe I don't have candidas anymore, if I did have it before.

I was thinking it can be a combination of things....

1. Either your body doesn't like it

2. Your liver doens't process fats very well as some are slow oxidizer and feel sleepy after fats

3. If one "does" have candaida perhaps a combo of the yeast reacting and the liver which ususally underfunctioning whith the yeat burden.

Do you use other oils? If so, how do you react to olive?

:)

It makes me think of the liver. The liver doesn't like too much oil. In my case, coconut oil makes the back of my throat itch, but I've been using it anyways.

Hi linda,

I guess maybe it's #3 or #1? I don't have this reaction to avocado, or olive oil. I can eat lots of them at one sitting without problem. So, what do you think?
