I have not gotten Allissa's book yet and didn't see anything on 'if you can have PEANUTS'? So can we have peanuts or is it a meat? ~Thanks

I've eaten raw (in the shell) peanuts. Have you done a search on here?

Hi TD Design,
What you choose to eat is, of course, totally a personal choice. I hope you won't mind if I add my very humble opinion. All the best to you, on your journey, no matter what you choose to enjoy!:)
Personally, I don't eat peanuts for a variety of reasons.
On the web you will find a lot of pros and cons regarding peanut consumption. Since I feel there are healthier nuts to choose from, I find it easy to avoid peanuts. (Actually, peanuts are classified as a legume, not a nut, but most of us still think of them as nuts)
FWIW, I have posted an part of an article from: www.deliciousorganics.com
"Oh No! Not Peanut Butter! Yes, Peanut butter may be cancer causing, but let's understand how and why and see if there is a solution here.
First, Peanuts are a legume, not a nut. They are low on the carbohydrate glycemic scale.
Many people are allergic to peanuts.
They do contain heart-healthy mono-saturated fats. Peanuts have about the same amount of protein as soy.
Next, conventional peanuts are grown with high level of pesticides.
(Peanuts are one of the most pesticide-contaminated crops.)
Most conventional brands of peanut butters contain additives including sugar, hydrogenated oils, and emulsifiers. So first step is to avoid conventional peanut butter brands.
Finally, when peanuts grow, they can harbor a carcinogenic mold that contains aflatoxin. This goes for conventional and organic peanuts. In fact, peanut farmers have a disproportionately high rate of cancer. This mold grows on peanuts, pecans, pistachios, grains, soybeans, spices, walnuts and it can even grow on milk in warm humid soils. Aflatoxin is known to cause liver cancer.
A recent study found the highest levels of this toxin in health food store ground fresh peanut butters!
In dry climates, this mold has not been seen growing. Valencia peanuts are grown in arid climates and don't contain this toxin.
Almond and Cashew Butter have a much better omega 6:3 fatty acid ratio. Walnuts are a good source of Omega-3s.

Yes - I agree. I don't eat raw peanuts much at all. I think the last time I had them was the end of summer.
Most peanuts have the carcinogenic mold "aflatoxin". The natural organic peanuts have higher levels of the mold than the skippy / jiffy brands because the skippy brands have been highly cooked and processed with preservatives & trans fats.
There are some raw peanuts without aflatoxins called 'Wild Jungle Peanuts'
I read that there is a brand of peanut butter with very low levels of aflatoxins because the peanuts were grown in the desert. Th brand is 'Arrowhead Mills' and is sold in most health food stores.
I use pumpkin seed butter, almond butter, and tahini instead of peanut butter. I make a great raw Pad Thai dish using almond butter instead of peanuts.
