I'm really craving meat but want to do this food plan. Can someone talk me out of this? How unhealthy do you consider it? Did you feel better when you quit flesh? I've been wholly Raw for a few weeks now.

The meat cravings will go away.

Consider this...

When you eat meat, you are eating all the things that they pump into the animals.... Like antibiotics... growth hormones... and pesticides, etc in their feed. This is all stored as toxins in the animal's fat, so when you eat the meat, that's what your getting...

Meat is extremely taxing on your body in every possible way. The digestive energy needed to digest it is extreme. It turns to stone in your tummy and sticks to the walls of your colon. Free range meat does not change this process. You need to do more reading about it. If you are 100% raw you should lose the cravings. Or do what many have said after being raw for awhile, go ahead have some and see how bad it tastes and effects your body after being raw, then you might change your mind. Fill up on higher protein veggies. Also if you are having cravings its often because your body is missing something it really needs, look over your daily menu and try to meet all your vit/mineral needs. Add a greens drink and maybe a - B complex -vitamin is REALLY what your body needs right now.:)

When a cow (or any animal) dies it begins to decompose immediately. So buy the time it gets to the grocery store it's had who knows how long to sit around rotting. Then you bring it home cook it to make it edible, and by doing so kill any thing benifical it might have had left in it at one time.
Then your body is not really made to digest meat so once you swollow it it sits in your stomach rotting while your body struggles to deal with it.
So when you think about eating meat do your really want to eat a rotting piece of cow flesh that's going to sit in your body continuing to decompose?

You know in the beginning God told Adam the herbs of the field will be your meat. And for the longest man was vegetarian. Man also lived for hundreds of years. Once God gave man permission to eat meat, he went from living CENTURIES to just a few DECADES!

Good Luck!

I did not eat meat for many years. Just do not like it. My lady freind in the beginning of the transformation to healthy lifestyle was craving meat. She would take a bit of meat and was chewing for awhile then would spit out. Eventually she got rid of this craving. I am not supporting this method, but that what she did.

Watch the film online "meet your meat." You'll never eat meat again.

Hi Stina,

Since you have gotten plenty of good info about how unhealthy meat is for you (and the environment & animals) from everyone else, I will just add my own 2 cents.

I empathize with your having a craving for meat

One thing I highly recommend is creating the incredibly delicious faux meat recipes from Alissa's books. Some of the recipes, or similar ones can be found right here, on Alissa's site.
These recipes help satsify cravings for meat because they are denser, and have similar texures and flavors to conventional meat dishes, BUT they are healing for your body since they are made from LIVING Food.

I wish you the strength and ability to overcome your meat craving, and the freedom and health that comes from letting it go.

To help you overcome your cravings I highly recommend the following recipes found in Alissa's book called:

Sausage

Chicken-Un Patties

Mock Salmon Pate

Almost Tuna

Carrot Pecan Burgers

Mock Turkey Loaf

MeatLoaf

BBQ Chicken fingers

Best of luck with your journey toward vibrant health!

Hello there,

Marinate some portobello mushrooms in an Italian style dressing and eat them. They are super meaty and delicious.

Alissa's pesto stuffed mushrooms are very substantial and filling.

meat.org : the video was awlful to watch - it was too much for me. I love animals. If you love animals, don't watch it.

Please go to www.youtube.com and watch the movie EARTHLINGS - it's free and available in 3 parts (or, buy it at www.isawearthlings.com). It is narrated by Joaquin Phoenix (*raow*) and will cure your cravings.

Gosh Im so glad after watching that I don't eat meat anymore.

What about leather goods? jackets? Shoes? belts? Any vids about that industries treatment....Because I can't seem to find any nice vegan shoes, belts, jackets, for business meetings etc that I have to attend that have to be fashionable because of the industry I work in. Gosh I don't want to use any animal anything in my life, So sad! Which I don't except for shoes, belts, jackets. Ugh!

I respectfully disagree. If you feel that you love animals, then it is imperative that you watch this video! Sure, the scenes are disturbing, but this is real life, folks (or should I say real 'death')? I've known far too many people who state that they 'love' animals, but don't stop to think twice about gnawing the charred flesh from what once was a chicken's body. Now, I know this shouldn't be a problem for people coming to a RAW VEGAN board like this, but I think it's better to face reality straight on, than to stick your head in the sand and pretend it doesn't exist.

Adopting a raw diet is an extremely powerful thing. It means that you have been able to free yourself from society's conditioning, and have discovered a greater truth. The same holds true for the fate of animals. Every minute that passes by, more than 19,000 animals are slaughtered in the United States alone. This happens 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, constantly and without end. Each year, this number grows larger. It's been nearly 20 years since I've eaten an animal, but I choose to keep myself completely mindful of the chilling reality of the subject. The more I keep myself aware, and the more that I can keep others aware, the sooner this unspeakable holocaust will be nothing more than a grim memory of the past.

Please, don't hide from it. Don't shy away from it. Confront it, and act upon it. The only hope these creatures have is found in the people who choose to do the same.

I completely agree with this. If you love animals, please don't be in denial of what truely happens. Watch the video so you know what really happens in reality to the poor helpless beings. Then love them more :)

Walmart carries non leather shoes.
The may not be the best "quality", but the look just like leather shoes, and are a lot cheaper.

I'm so glad I watched that-It was saddening, disgusting and honest but most of all it has made me look at my food in a whole different way. There were things mentioned and shown that were not new to my ears or eyes-just forgotten or shunned away-so in a morbid yet honest way I am glad to have seen those images again-to be reminded of the reality of the way we treat living beings around us!-The golden arches don't seem so golden anymore!!
