Hey Ladies -

How do you deal with the monthly hormones and chocolate cravings? Oh, and salt cravings, let's not forget those!

I'm new to the Raw concept, but currently dealing with those crazy monthly cravings - any suggestions to get me started? And did being raw long term help you with this?

Thanks for your help.
B.

Raw chocolate! (Cacao) There are many recipes you can make to help with that chocolate/sweet craving, although I don't get them much anymore. Some raw foodists don't care for cacao, so they use raw carob, which is similar to chocolate.

As for salty, I just add salt to my salads & dips! Many raw foodists make raw crackers and breads in their dehydrators for that salty crunch!

Hi Bingo24

Like RawMommie mentioned, many Raw fooder Folks use Raw Cocao to make delectable chocolate recipes. Alissa sells Raw Chocolate on her store here, as well as some chocolate treats, like Organic Raw Cacao Nib Truffles, which I hear are yummy.:p

The other option, as RFM mentioned, is Raw Carob Powder, which Alissa also sells. I like to add Raw Carob to banana "ice cream" or other desserts.

Unfortunately, I had cravings for chocolate everyday, so I recently decided to try to eliminated chocolate (raw and cooked) from my diet. It has now been over 2 weeks, and I am going strong. If it had only been a monthly craving, I probably haven't gone so far.:)

For salt craving I use celery, which is high in sodium . You can dehydrate it to make celery salt, without the salt ;) ). Some Raw Fooders use dulse or kelp flakes to add a salty taste.

All the best to you on your journey!

HI!!

I was just on the 21st day of a juice fast, and came up against those cravings..and went off my fast for 3.5 days. I am back on it and hope that next month I am more cleaned out and also more prepared psychologically and spiritually for them, if they still come. I would think that through eating raw they would gradually diminish, especially if you eat progressively more cleanly. That is what I am counting on.

What is funny is that today, I started my fast agian..and I feel that the cravings are gone. They were bad for about 5 days..and knowing that they will pass so quickly will help me resist them next time.

I have also started growing wheatgrass for juice, because I think the cravings are related to mineral shortages. Maybe you can do that, or get the green food supplement off rawfood.com or if Alissa sells one on her site.

Good luck!!

I make Banana Celery Shakes

Tons of Frozen Bananas
Tons of Celery
Almond Milk
Squeeze of Lemon
Hemp Powder
and for nasty cramps...2 inches of ginger
Blend all in the blender and enjoy!!

I didn't even have cramps this last period and for me that was thought to be impossible.

I also add some soaked chia seeds so I can chew on my smoothie. It's almost like having tapioca in there.

My headaches are less severe during the monthy flow. I think they will probably go away completly once I have been raw for a few more months.
