Hi, I stumbled on this site by accident and I am amazed by the wealth of information contained here! I have rheumatoid arthritis which has been really active lately and I am looking for a way to get off the medication and get well. I decided to google 'raw food diet' and have been really encouraged by all i have read about 'raw living'.
I am also 60 pds overweight so need to lose that too:)
I started raw foods yesterday and so far it has been okay. I just dont know how much to eat especially the nuts since they are fattening. Should i be concerned about quantities at this point? ANy advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome! Welcome!
There's TONS of support, info, and great people on here... so join the fun, indulge in the recipes shared, and start slowly.
When you start out raw, your body needs lots of different nutrients from many different foods. If you feel like having nuts, HAVE THEM. If you feel like eating lighter foods, eat them. The trick is trying to eat instinctively and listening to your body's needs will enable it to heal faster!
A great thing to get would be Alissa's book.. it has EVERYTHING in it!
Happy hunting and reading!
And welcome!

Hello heal thyself:D
I agree with spicyfull - that's a cool name!
I came here by accident too, myself.
Picking up Alissa's book is a must - it'll really help you get started. It's super easy reading and all the pages are glossy so while your trying to make those easy recipes and you spill stuff on the book, they'll wipe off easily
Welcome to the group:)

Welcome, Heal Thyself!
I'm glad you were somehow led to the wonderful, healing Living Food Path!
I remember reading here that a woman who was suffering from arthritis was able to reduce her arthritis symptons significantly within a relatively short period of time.
I wish the same for you.
Many blessings on your journey.

I hear you about having rheumatoid arthritis. I had it when I was 12 years old. I was the worst for me. I couldn't walk or do anything. Back then there were no pills for it, so I took 5 Bayer caplets 5 times a day. I gained alot of weight then with eating food with the pills so my stomach won't be so upset.
I found this site too and its my first day on RAW. So far so good with my change of no headaches, just not yet. But don't worry about the nuts for know just in a week start backing off it. You will loose the weight. Good Luck!

HI.
Thanks for all you wonderful responses! I a very excited and can hardly wait to get the book. I live in Vancouver BC and have been searching online for it but have not found it yet. Anyone have any suggestions or do I have just have to order it from Alissa's website or amazon.com?

You can order it from THIS Site. You can even read excerts from it on this Forum. It has been a while for me but I think there is a site called "Who is Alissa Cohen", also use the "SEARCH" at the top of this page.
I also remember seeing the Book on the left side of the screen as I entered this Forum. There is a picture of Alissa sitting on a Tomato or something.
Do order it as soon as possible because it takes about a wk. for it to come back and that is the Longest Week ever..............

Hey Good luck with raw! I just finished Alissa's book and it was wonderful. I'm trying 100% -- on day 2. I think I will just eat anything raw that my body seems to crave and worry about food combining, etc. later.
Hope all goes well for you!
